- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 25 ก.ย. 2024
- This could be a modern David and Goliath story! Will this bike from a relatively new brand be able to take on the bigger, more established eBike brands? The Amflow PL equipped with the new DJI motor is lightweight and full power. Steve Jones is in Italy to put the new blood to the test. He takes it on a proper mountain adventure involving technical climbs, hair-raising descents and even some hike-a-bike.

What are your thoughts on the new Amflow PL?
What I can say after the various test videos - I think the AMFLOW is brilliant - if it can keep all this in practice (not in the various tests on TH-cam) ;-) What annoys me about my previous bikes (Levo, Trek Rail and now Rotwild R.E375) is the unreliability of the Brose in the Levo and the volume of the Bosch and EP8 (rattling on the downhill and the volume of the motor under full load on the uphill). From the test videos so far, I could “hear” that DJI / AMFLOW are doing better - that would be the most important thing for me alongside the power and software features.
Beautifully filmed almost outdoes the Amflow itself which seems to be the bike to beat.
a new brand noone has experience with when it comes to reliability, customer support or resale value (given they have dji behind their back gives me quite some trust - still....) i wished they had 4 models - all they have plus an alu frame with entry/midrange components for sub 5k, maybe even sub 4k. would make it easier for me to gamble my hard earned money on an unknown brand.... also, let me take out the battery! i live on the 4th floor without an elevator ;) and last but not least - a quantumleap is the smallest movement possible, so why do we use this term if we want to say the very contrary?
It's a great bike Steve according to your presentation ....But THE best system out there and I think THE future of eBikes....the Pinion MGU....it encloses the the Transmission and Motor and keeps it 100% clean & dry which the AmFlo cannot do...
More MGU please!
Feel like I've binged all these Amflow videos being a big tech nerd, but can we take a minute to appreciate the behind the scenes camera work and editing behind this one. Absolutely top tier work!
@@ChrisWilmshurst I was thinking the same thing, props to the camera guy and editing team. And the Amflow….
pure advertising - however - well done 👍
Coś is made and sponsored by, DJi ppl.
Thanks very much! Our crew put a lot of time and effort into our productions and everyone loves to read the feedback when we can put something like this together at such a good location
Oh yes that's another thing. The locale. You guys really do go through a lot for good production quality. I know I'm a cameraman. I know the schlepping and the waiting and the batteries and the lighting and the weather. Really again beautiful photography
Steve doesn't need any pads, he is the real thing
He likes to feel the breeze on his knees!
@@FritzPhoto made me anxious watching him on that terrain with no pads or gloves
Dudes got giant balls And mad skills riding there with no gloves and no pads ;-)
I rarely comment on TH-cam videos or even other social media posts.
I don’t even own an E-Bike, but I do ride MTB.
I do frequently watch MTB reviews and lately my curiosity grew a bit more about E-MTBs so I came across this video.
I probably watched at least hundreds of MTB reviews or just videos in general from different TH-cam channels.
BUT…
This video is on a whole different level.
This is by FAR the BEST of any bike review or videos I have ever watched by a HUGE margin.
It’s like if the Top Gear crew and National Geographic team all got together and made an E-MTB review/video.
The actual bike is really cool and definitely got my attention now.
But even if the review was about the most boring bike it would still be exciting.
If AMFLOW didn’t not pay you at least tens of thousands of dollars or even more for such an incredible video then someone definitely should because it was that good.
If there was an Oscar for the most high end bike review then it would be it!
Just WoW!!!
And most important, Thank You!
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Wow awesome, thanks so much for watching and for the feedback 😁
Top marks for the production on this video too.
Filming location is superb.
Much appreciated!
Great video. Really liked the filming, editing and the more raw feal of the video. Great stuff. This bike will be perfect to ride here in Lofoten.. =)
pure advertising - however - well done
Best commercial on this bike so far. I’m really looking forward to see the long term wear and tear. Great new player on the scene . Get it out there and let’s see what the support structure looks like
At first I’m shocked by all the complainers then i realize that people are losing their shirts because of this bike. DJI just took over the ebike motor systems market in one move. The old platform for motor systems is obsolete and Steve sees it. Once more bike companies contract this motor system in their bikes we, the riders, all win. Lots of new bike designs and a great improvement in the technology. Steve is helping move the entire sport forward. This video is epic and Steve’s endorsement of this bike and system just changed the future of electric mountain biking.
You are totally right. Let's hope the market will leap in tech thanks to this new comer.
Love how Steves even matched his T-shirt to the bike with the black and gold 😂👍🏼
Feels like they said the same word for every single new bike… the best of the best
this one weighs 19kg with a 800wh battery, nobody has done that before
@@davinci69 I thought it was 21.4 kg with the bigger battery ? Website shows 19kg to 21.4kg
Yes, but at the time they may have been
The future looks very exciting with new challenges at every turn , brilliant , thanks Steve and Amflow 👍👍
Thanks for watching👍
Watching Steve I am reminded at just how well he can ride. Not a man for flow but revels on knar and chunk. A so called “trail” bike. Looks like it can tackle anything!
Few years earlier, i would never consider an e mountain bike, but now I'm getting older and my joints and back hurts more after every ride, I'm seriously considering one. Plus, e bikes and its relative technology and reliability has come a long way since the early days.
This amflow would be on my shortlist. I've seen many none e bikes costing 5k or more, so the asking price for the base model of 6k seems "reasonable".
I thought the views were excellent for this extreme test, steve
Great video. Would be tempted to put a 170mm on the front & a coil on the back & change the tyres. Will be interesting to see how the competition responds to this in the next few months
Ditto! 😄
Rob rides has.
They really have knocked it out the park and this surely will be where e-bikes will be heading as the full fat and lightweight category merge over the next couple of years, the only question left for DJI is reliability?, what shocks me the most though is the terrain Steve is riding and he has no pads not even gloves, absolute header 😂
The chinbar stops him seeing the details required for Steve's kind of riding! We've seen him ride some crazy terrain without a lot of protection 😅 Just down to what you're comfortable with at the end of the day
I'm not interested in dry testing. They all work well there! Get into the bogs & mud we ride in the UK winter for 3 months then do a review. If it can cope with Wales/Yorkshire/ Scotland mud & gunge & not need a new motor or electrical parts changing. That's the review not this jolly boy outing. Also what's the warranty & dealer servicing like? All the important stuff get no mention!
The bike isn't for you move on.!
And you came to that conclusion how? 😂 Or aren't we allowed to ask questions. 🙄 The comments section isn't for you.!@@deanrwilson
@@deanrwilson ¿quéee?, ¿pero porqué?. 😂😂
As a Welshie, riding muddy trails, I would go for a Nicolai Saturn 16 MGU.
@@deanrwilson Why are you already simping dude, he's right. No one wants to deal with constant problems due to the elements. How would you feel if you buy this thing for 6k and then have to send it back every month due to all the rain we have here in the uk. I know i wouldnt be too happy that doesnt mean this aint for me, i actually love everything about this thing but @sadphil is 100% right. Needs time to see the actual real life reviews.
I had a Rotwild RE750 Pro and now a Rotwild RX375 with a 85Nm Shimano motor. The weight difference is about 3kg, but it feels like 5-6kg.(23kg vs 20kg)
Manuals is just so easy, even if the RX is 29/29 and the RE vas mullet.
20kg with that power and range is pretty incredible.
Magnificent scenery, beautiful bike, it’s good to see the new kid on the block leapfrogging everyone. What a great rock ride up the river, all beautiful, love it thanks! 👍
Very promising for future EMTBs. Faster, lighter, stronger and hopefully cheaper. I’d like to have more EMTBs like this one with an AL frame. Thanks for the ride report. It’s like watching a BBC documentary!
seriously impressive bike and Steves not to shabby either, lookig forward to a long term test on this bike.
This bike looks like a Levo!!!!
Haven't you already done a review on this.....!!
Notice the AD logo in the corner of the thumbnail...
DJI has marketing budget that they are using
I want one. I’m in the market for a new e-bike because I’m riding a 2020 Decoy, if I bought any other bike than the amflow now I think I would regret it. How easy is it to buy one of these? Where can I get one and when will they be available?
Levo S works going on pink bike immediately 😂
A great ride on an amazing bike. Thanks.
Saw the Don on his at Coed y Brenin, both did the same trail, Tarw du and used the same amount of battery, me using Bosch performance CX with a 750wh battery. My bike weighs 26kg though and guessing the Don was way quicker😂 to me the bike ticks the boxes of what I’ve come to realise I want out of an ebike! Power, lite weight and quick charging, I can change batteries in a minute but it’s extra weight on the bike and stuff I have to bring if I can charge it quick you don’t need another battery. Think the Don charged his back to full in half an hour from 60%!🤯 I’ll be getting one next year!👍🏻
Awesome bike and Steve proved it can take the beating on enduro trails...however, I would definitely pick a longer travel version of the bike!
Thanks for the test. You definitely took the Amflow bike to difficult terrain and pushed it hard. Let's hope the reliability of the motor is still there after a couple of years of pushing hard. For my next bike, I want this sort of motor strength, and a modern battery in a proper enduro-style MTB like this one, coupled together with a strong, light internal gearbox. Wouldn't it be great if DJI were to develop an MGU like the Pinion one? Then you could go mountaineering without the fear of snapping off a derailleur.
I have been semi in the market for an e-bike. I have hesitated since the full power ones weigh 25+KGs. I road my brother’s yeti e-bike and it is as a tank. I don’t want a bike that heavy for the riding I do. I had been thinking maybe an SL would work but I was unsure of range and if the power would be enough. Enter the Amflow. Light as an SL, same power or more as a full power.
Seems like the handling is dialed as well. The travel is perfect for me and 29” is nearly mandatory around here.
Just need to get it in dealers!
Amazing looking EMTB, that aside….. the cinematography of this video is excellent.
Amazing reportage . Ypu are a god of the short tale about bikes .
Impressive climbing Steve. I know it's a great bike, but still, looking good out there
I’m interested to hear about the internals of this motor. You stated it had composite gears I believe? How does this compare to the internals in the other motors (Shimano, Bosch etc.). Is there longevity issues here with cold temps and moisture? A fantastic video guys!! Thanks for the great content 👍
Great Video Guys 🔥🥳
Question: Where in Italy is this amazing landscape?
these ads are pathetic. Lost all credibility on this channel. Used to be worth watching now it's just breathless paid for ad copy being read by a bloke with a welsh accent.
All the amazing design and technology is great. However, will it last multiple Welsh autumns, winters and springs without water ingress issues?
@@Kiwi-in-Wales yeah that's what I'm thinking. Test it in the UK winter bogs & rain 3 times a week for a couple of months then do a review.
Great bit of filming there.
Just got a DJI drone and very impressed = suspect this bike rocks and want one, grew up in trek and like the support for first e-bike, however also like that 120 torque figure… dude….
I am a little confused. Every other bike has been tested downhill and criteria such as stiffness, noise, cornering, jumps, usability in downhill terrain have been commented. Not with this bike. Why not?
It seemed a LOT like a commercial, right?
Great video Steve!
I'm very much waiting for the Gen4 Levo as i'm a big fan of Specialized(i have a Gen3 what i like pretty much)but this bike has everting i would expect from the next gen Levo.
I hope Specialized will make a big step and won't loose me as a customer.
Can i ask you about the location of the mountain where you made this video?
Stick that motor and battery in the new Atherton alloy enduro bike and oh my days!
Amflow is killin it, it´s great, but going on that rocky terrain whith just a helmet as protection is quite risky.
@@McNulty030 he's got skillz
Frustrating that there are very limited options to sell e-bikes.
With the values comparable to cars, why aren’t dealers offering trade ins?
Now got three already cluttering up garage😂
The only thing better than three bikes is four bikes😂
@macejowski has a point 🤔
I'm not really interested in a bike that isn't for sale yet. It's made from unobtainium?
Could you give some insight about durability, noise development and such on the amflow frame/ suspension/transmission as well as the avinox system?
If they can take another 2-4 kilos out and subsequently less power, they’ll have something. I ride similar terrain to vid, and more HP is addictive, but not necessarily required. 500 watts and add your input of 100 or more puts you into champion level output. Which should be enough, the rest is technique. At least in US where we don’t have access sorted as well, more output only adds more power to the contingent that wants to eliminate e-bikes from public lands. Less output should yield increased range, something that can easily do 5000 meters and 50+miles on a charge is really exciting for me! Currently levo dies at about 2500 meters and around 30 miles. Increased range opens up all kinds of traverses where towns and rest stops are very few and far between in the Rockies. At least until we get developed as the Alps! 😂
Any independent testers out there bought one and given it a few hard months yet? Genuinely considering the base model.
That won't be possible, the AMFLOW has only been available for testers since Eurobike and you can only buy it in Germany from the end of October
Available in the UK from October too, in small numbers.
@@PeakTorque yeh I’ve gone for the base model, I’ve been told from a good source that it’s the best one to go for as the carbon rims on the top model are too stiff
2nd paid ad in 7 days on this channel. Not a review at all 😢
Great video as always, Steve - epic! What size frame did you ride here as a 6 footer (L with 475 reach or XL with 500 reach)? May I ask which frame size you would recommend for a 6 footer (1.83M) looking to ride far less extreme trails than this on the silver Amflow PL 800WH (not the Pro version you rode here)? The Amflow sizing charts suggest both L and XL for 6 foot height on both options.
One thing to take into consideration is Amflow is not answering questions ATM re support, dealers, where to buy. If you bought a bike and it needed warranty I'd be shit scared.!
LBS are certainly going to scratch their heads on how to support this new motor.
I'm test riding one from a LBS in a few weeks when their demo bikes come in
How does it stack up against the gen 4 levo
A lot more power and lighter.!
@@deanrwilson Gen 4 isn't released yet so that comparison isn't possible yet.
The Amflow does not comply with UK EPAC rules, it has over 250w of power, and therefore cannot be used on uk roads unless it is taxed and you have a driving license and cannot be used on cycle paths.
I think this should be made clear in your excellent videos. 👌
ITS EITHER A GREAT BIKE OR APPLE/DJI BROWN ENVELOPES ARE BIG! So many channels giving this bike praise! Bit the the POLE bikes and we all know how that went!
I love your energy and work ethic but the one thing I always seem the miss in your video’s is a bit of negative criticism on the bikes.
My understanding is that the max power output for a pedal assist ebike in the UK is 250w? Is the Amflow legal for use on UK roads, if not this would be very restrictive?
Thanks for another great video.
Peter
When are we gonna actually be able to buy these? And the Nicolai? A really leap forward is going to be when DJI copies the pinion motor gearbox unit so there’s some competition in that end of the market. I really like the centralization and the possibility of running a Gates belt drive.
Wow what a great filming location.
I feel Brose and Bosch are just about to catch up in October and the bikes will be better value. This Amflow is amazing but the top end should be the price of the low end version. You’ll pay extra for being an early adopter. This bike should be £6k.
Lastly there was no mention of dealer support, something Bosch excels and will be very hard to beat.

Bit off topic this one. What is the max number of quick links you should have in a chain on a 12-speed eMBike. I currently have 2 separated by approx 16 inches......which also brings up the question of is there a minimum separation distance for quick links?
Looks like Amflow/DJI have knocked Specialized off the top spot as to who has the best marketing department!😂 That said, a great video, I cant recall seeing an EMBN video showing EMTB going up and over such difficult terrain! 👍
Amazing bike, location, filming, editing and rider.

As a DJI drone owner, I won’t be surprised if this has the ability to pair with a DJI drone similar to how a skydio drone pairs with a beacon to track the subject.
Wow, now that would be a cool update!

I rarely ride either my bosch or yamaha equipped bikes in any mode over the third, and I certainly don't find much joy in turboing up every climb, just to get there quicker, with the side affect being to shorten the ride when the battery goes flat.
I'm massively impressed with the tech on this bike, but struggling to see how the desire for higher and higher power isn't just getting closer and closer to a Sur Ron type bike, just with the throttle being activated by a pedal rotation?
Wasn't this bike just ADVERTISED recently on this channel.
Did the manufacturer feel the last hyperbolic report wasn't good enough ?
😂
Nice video Steve as always, i don't want to put words in your mouth, but i got the impression that you were impressed with this bike??? :)
Ah man, missed your adventures Steve, great cinema photography and story telling. Framing tech through myths, nice scripted Steve & team
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
This review is a out uphill, but what about downhill? For Enduro race I need only climb, but go down very fast. And I want to play with stones and roots in a forest - will this bike provide my such possibility?
But the question remains: in case of problems with motor failure, where we can repair it and in case of a need a new motor how long take to change it?
Hi Steve, what did you think if the rattle from the motor? The video was excellent!
Steve, that was truly an epic ride! You tested the new Amflow eMTB in the stunning Italian landscape. From the moment you got on the bike, you knew this was going to be something special. The Italian mountain trails gave you the perfect mix of technical challenges and breathtaking views. The steep climbs tested you at first, but the Amflow handled it effortlessly, and once you reached the top, you were rewarded with an unforgettable, adrenaline-filled descent through natural trails.
Riding terrain like that on such a powerful bike was pure joy - the feeling of strength beneath your feet as you tackled every root, rock, and turn was incredible. The scenery around you, with majestic mountains and blue skies, made the experience even more unforgettable.
Steve, this Italian adventure is surely one to remember. The Amflow allowed you to truly feel the power of an eMTB on a whole new level.😀
Steve, you need to introduce DJI to Pinion, then we are looking at a game changer for the whole industry.DJI have the motor, battery and software covered and Pinion have a gearbox that is maintenance free and up to the job. Cassettes and chains that have not moved with the greater power that is being put through them are inadequate.
What happens when a tooth breaks off inside the pinion? Where do you take it to fix it?
This changes the game now everyone has to catch up good for us the customer who buy these things and the price is realistic
Most impressive is the size, weight and battery in that thing. My gen 4 bosch cx line shreds trough any technical line, but i think this new motor takes it to a new level when it comes to bike weight, battery and power. Well done by dji. Good competition only benefits us the consumer.
Hi Steve, do you know why the Whyte E180 works is only available in the colours white/matt black? It’s really putting me off buying one. Thanks for all the great videos/info on this channel
All the complaining is useless. DJI came, saw and conquered. First in the area of professional drones. Then in the area of FPV. Then in the area of action cam. And now in the area of biking. Just accept it 😎😉
Steve is such a good rider. Like his uphill skills! The bike is also nice :)
It'll be my next bike

@wm05eb great choice, still not in my country but hopefully soon

Its an amazing bike by the looks of it… i have had the SL and Fuel EXe.
How is the motor drag on the AMFlow (Dji) motor when the motor is off or run out of battery?
Would be awesome if they made mounting kits to be able to fit this motor and batteries into older Shimano fitted bikes like the Orbea Rise or others!
I only ride a half power "50Nm" Bike, and find my self needing to replace the chain at around 1200km to avoid having to replace the Cassette as well. I ride in Eco/Trail most the time. I do love the sound of this bike but with motors becoming more and more powerful are they not tearing through chains and cassette really quickly? with the extortionate price of parts especially high end ones nowadays these bikes could become very expensive to run. A bike like this Amflow i'd probably want to ride all the time but I'm not sure i would be able to afford too. Unfortunately I'm now too old to train as a dentist!
I thought the new ZF motor was better?
How much for the bike you tested and where do I buy one?
The Concept of the bike is brilliant and weight does make a difference, still say power not everything it motor Delivery, software, Finally love it but cant afford it.
Can you take the batt out? Also can you back up the 'trail is like other bike's boost'? Don't get me wrong, I'm interested, but seeing this plastered over every GMBN/EMBN channel for a couple of weeks now does set off a couple of red flags
Why does it set off red flags? It just got released so of course we're going to be talking about it at release time 😁
@@embn I guess because of the anecdotal bits, that it's an ad across the whole network, dunno. I'm still definitely interested. Will be interesting to see some further specifics/testing.
The bike isn't the story, the.motor and the battery are the story, time will tell if other bike brands adopt them. If they do then we possibly have a new standard, but until they roll out a concise service centre network and UK warranty centre then for me, at this point in time, its just a distruptor.
Question; how is the motor vented? It looks on the video as if there are vents underneath on the bash guard but I can’t imagine that is correct. Interested in any insights. With all that power it might get a bit warm at some point I’m guessing. Thanks in advance. 🤟
Does the DJI motor have industry standard motor mounts? Can the DJI motor be purchased separately and placed into existing e-bikes?
The bike is powerful and light. The price is amazing for the "Performance" spec, after all, you only pay for a fancy Kashima coating. Defo a contender for me looking at e-bikes but there is no removable battery.
So...after you're last "best bike" review would you buy the Amflow or the Canyon.....or the Nicolai Saturn 16 MGU?
Sounds to me like they designed in a weighted flywheel to keep the momentum going much like a trails motorcycle.
Anyone know when this motor may be in a heavy hitter? Like an 180mm coil spring bike?
I'll wait for the suckers to buy them on finance because they really really want one then realise they don't really ride it and have to sell it for 4k a year later, I'd never buy another new mtb you lose so much money on them and they're cheap af second hand, I don't care about warranty I've never had any problems
Some people have lots of money and don’t care if you don’t buy one. lol.
@brianthompson1045
Maybe so but you can't fix stupid with money 👍🏻
Don't think i would buy a used carbon fibre bike, can't trust people selling them because they have damaged the frame and hard to spot on carbon .
@@brianthompson1045 Correct
As i still remember the price of the Dji pro models drone batt’s, i wouldn’t speed charge these at 20Amps, unless you like to half the lifecycle.
Wonder what the price & deliv. time of spares will be…
For a new to the EMTB market, the AMFlow are boxing well above their weight (literally), a superb frame design matched with an excellent motor, tech and components - if I had the money (not), I would swap out against my Levo any day - the elephant still in the room which I wish you would point out Steve following the many recent all singing appraisals both from EMBN and GMBN, is your vested interest in this having spent a lot of time developing the bike with AMFlow - a good move on their part but how about some honest transparency 😎
Impressionnat! Curieux de voir son vieillissement?
Wonder if that rear sensor with a higher resolution helps with the constant smooth power
The reviewer is doing wheelies not only up a steep hill, also over 1 foot+ rocks. Where can I buy one?! Love the gold and black and the component options. There is too much choices for emtbs its turning my brain in to spaghettis as I try to choose one.
You could almost believe this was a Gee Atherton shoot!
Praise indeed 🤝
OK, love your videos ... but it just dawned on me why, at least partially. They have a distinct OG Top Gear vibe. As such, have you ever thought of doing a retro video where you and others ride dream bikes of yours from the past ... I realize most are interested in modern tech (myself included), but could be a fun video. Just my two cents ... err ... two pence. Keep up the great content !
Thanks for the feedback! We've been going for a few years now and have certainly ridden most of our e-bike dream bikes as the tech itself still isn't super old
What about the rear building in the Dowhill? I've read that it's rather spongy and uncontrolled in terms of ride feel?
