Jitna deep yeh song hai...utna he shallow yeh reaction hai. This is by far the best of coke studio. I dnt think they deserve this kind of a reaction..jiss level k yeh artist hain. Shafqat amanat ali khan sahab is one of the most flexible and versatile throat on the planet.
Those are very kind words Varun. But the reaction was very shallow because if you don't speak Urdu and don't follow an Abrahamic religion, especially Islam, then it is very difficult to understand the context of the piece. Through-out the song they talked about different prophets and connected their greatness to the God. They should've used subtitles but then you know, subtitles isn't 100% accurate translation of the feel and essence either. So you see, they basically did not understand what was going on in the song. They kept talking about the composition and voices of the singers, apart from that, they couldn't really talk about anything else. Let me give you an example. 2 sentences "Nooh ki kashti ko dekhta hun, Qoz-e-Nadamat mein dooba hua hun", these 2 sentence pack a very very deep meaning. So what happened with Nooh was, God ordered him to build an Ark because there was going to come a flood which would wipe out the whole population. So he started making it and the people around him called him crazy because that region saw very little rainfall, let alone the need for an ark to survive. But little did they know that it was a test for them, a test of faith. So when the flood came, the believers of God were on the ark with Nooh and the disbelievers were drowning and regretting their disbelieve but it was too late. Take that into context and you'll hear him saying, I saw your signs all around me, I felt your presence but yet I remained ignorant and now when the ship is sailing off, I feel regretful and guilty of my actions.
