I am strong through the Sage who strengthens me! 💪
Haven’t seen this channel in years… sage is still killing it!
thanks! I try!
Sage has always had some crazy quad genetics lol
Mobo board, knees over toes moves…love this.
That’s some Sage advice
Stoked to see you run a couple of road races 👍🏼
See you in Boston!
Mr running down a dream himself!
Can't wait to see you run Boston and Big Sur!! 🎉✨ Chicago is a go for me if all goes well 🙏🏻💛
Great to hear! I'm only racing Boston (I'll be at Big Sur to help coach too though!)
LETS GO 🔥🔥🔥
Thought you created a giant shake weight from thumbnail. Looks cool though, always feel like foam rolling is a workout itself.
His foam roller has an app 🤯. Next they will have subscriptions 😂
Ran 16:41 in the 5k last year.
2025 goal is to get in the 15 minute club!!!
And possibly try for a 1:17 in the half marathon
congrats! those are great times!
cool running bruh!
*runnings
Thanks Sage. I shooting for a 3:05 marathon. Here in NC in about 8 weeks. I’m transitioning from ultras to shorter stuff and wow, the workouts are challenging. Eventually goal is BQ. Love the videos man.
great to hear and good luck! Yes the speed work is important!
Hey Sage 😉, is there going to be some shake out run on Boston ? Hope to see you there. Cheers from Portugal 😉✌️
looking into hopefully organizing something maybe with HOKA....will keep you posted!
@@Vo2maxProductions great 💪😎. Have a great preparation ✌️😉.
That was like a 4 minute ad read, bro.
👌👌
As a coach, in what circumstances would you support or advise an athlete with a marathon PR of 2:39 to set their next goal of going sub 2:30? 😂
those are great times! I'd say a recent half marathon PR of 1:12 or better.
Steve Magness recently made a video where he discussed stretching and range of motion. He summarized a paper which found that flexibility is negatively correlated with running economy. Tighter muscles and tendons are better elastics. Dynamic stretching to warm up and promote blood flow are more productive. What do you think about this?
I agree with that correlation in general....However the inverse (i'm not sure is true): That if one is "really inflexible" that their running economy is always better. That is, I believe there is a certain balance with having some range of motion and flexibility for one's ideal Running Economy. Running Economy of course is a moving target with different pace ranges and personal biomechanic considerations.
A faster and flatter 100 mile end of year.
In March 50k (8000ft gain)
End of April 50 miler-11,000 gain
But just dropped a large can on toe and think it’s broken.
sorry to hear about the foot injury. Did you get an x-ray/have it looked at ? Stay healthy and good luck - great goals!
Hi Sage,
How does extending marathon taper by 2 weeks affect your fitness? Are there workouts (e.g., long runs or tempo runs) that could be done in those additional 2 weeks to refresh cardio fitness? Basically I missed a race due to sickness which has quickly resolved (missed only 2 days of running), and was thinking of running another marathon in 2 weeks.
Hal Higdon’s perspective is that taper can be as long as 4 or even 5 weeks, but I know I’m a runner that appreciates having some volume… in this build I did 2 4 week blocks averaging 74 miles per week, which was my all-time high…
My main concern is that my last 22 miler was now 3 weeks ago… I was using your Boston/hilly marathon plan and recorded 2 long runs of 22 and 21 miles avg my goal race pace (7:15)…
Any insight would be appreciated…
Our taper phase in a Higher Running Plan is usually only 2 weeks... although within 3 weeks out we certainly start cutting back the mileage and don't do anymore Hard Long Runs. It really depends on what kinds of workouts you've been doing exactly, your mileage base, your race and time goals and your genetics. Thanks for your support on the Hilly Marathon Plan! I'd say you're in great shape based on those quality Long Runs....how hilly were they though and what location/course is your goal race? Since you were sick you want to be careful to ensure you stay healthy and also don't get injured. You could do another 20-mile Long Run (if and only if your real goal race is more like 4-8 weeks out still) but take it super chill and easy (over 8-min per mile pace)....more for re-establishing aerobic base and for metabolic/muscular reasons. Then capitalize on the shorter interval speed work and Tempo/Threshold efforts. If your actual goal race marathon is really in 2 weeks then you pretty much have to taper regardless. That could mean going to the lower mileage range for the weekly totals (feel it out) to make sure you stay a bit more fresh and motivated. Also be sure to check vitamin D levels (we advise our athletes get an Athlete Blood test often) and stay on top of sleep/nutrition/hydration in general. Good luck and thanks for your support!
Hi Sage, and thank you so much for your reply!
So, I had to miss Carlsbad Marathon this past Sunday, which has about 800 ft of vert gain and loss and am considering running Surf City marathon (on Feb 2), which has under 400 ft of gain and loss and is much flatter than Carlsbad.
During my long runs I’d do at least 900 ft of climbing and did 2 long runs of 22 + miles with 1200 ft of climbing… I had 7 long runs total during Carlsbad build and one was 24 miles (that one was also the slowest at 7:48 pace but 1200 ft of climbing) and all others were between 21 and 23 miles…
How do you measure incline on the Road as a matter of interest?
I generally have to rely on GPS watch data......so it's slope (rise over run). If I gain 100' vertical feet for a 1000' foot stretch of road (almost 0.2 of a mile) we know it's about 10% grade. For example Strava segments have hill climbs with the % grade listed as it's the vertical gain over the distance. We know the Newton Hills at Boston (including Heartbreak) are usually between 3-7% grade and average around 4% -5% uphill grade for example.
😅
I get that you need to make money, but I feel that you're videos lately are being made purely as a vehicle for advertisements.
Gotta pay the bills somehow! i made less than $10k total on this channel for all of 2024 in Google Adsense. It's been a bit of a struggle financially honestly to justify still making these kinds of videos.
@@Vo2maxProductions the OGs will always rock with you Sage! Appreciate all your effort
Wellcome to TH-cam 2025
