Ranma had all the reasons for a remake. 1. It didn’t finish adapting the whole manga 2. It goes completely off course adapting from the manga unlike the remake is panel for panel 3. Akane is way too aggressive in the OG while she’s never like that in the manga 4. The OG also mischaracterize Ranma sometimes by adding pointless stuff into the episodes where he says things completely different and unnecessary compared to the manga making look like a “tough” guy while the manga he’s always flustered around girls especially Akane 5. And finally the OG had WAY TOO MANY pointless fillers in the show. Sure some were good and fun but there was way too much and it’s just messes up the characterization for once again going off track from the original manga. So hindsight… yeah Ranma DEFINITELY needed a remake and it’s not a waste of money… and you call yourself a Rumiko fan and not know any of this?
Remake is superior imo. Sure the OG is good enough but because of all the reasons above I just can’t really call it Ranma since the original anime so different from the manga 😅
There was a need to remake Ranma because the old anime didn't adapt all of the material and half the show was filler and MAPPA Staff hope to adapt everything So you are wrong sir

Commenting again to add: I actually really appreciate you adding in older anime into this list! Especially considering a lot of it is retro anime, which I've been really feeling an itch to dive more into. Sci-fi especially seems to hit pretty good with retro anime! I'll give you a recommendation of my own, though I suspect you won't see this comment or have time to get around to it. Just in case, though: Iria: Zeiram the Animation. A fledgling bounty hunter encounters a nigh-invulnerable Eldritch entity that seems to take a particularly strong interest in eating her it eats/absorbs her brother (nothing sexual going on with that, in case it's a trigger for anyone else reading this).

You 100% should do a video on Tokyo Revengers. I had the same experience of sleeping on it till the most current season ended, and I dont fully regret it only because I got to binge the whole thing and get disappointed when I find out there might not be a next season....
I'm glad that someone else made the comparison between Ossan Newbie and Parry Everything. I originally watched Parry Everything and was so disappointed that I looked for some other slop and started watching Ossan Newbie, and I was happily surprised. I actually recommend this show for any folks who want to watch an action anime with a fun premise.
If you get the chance, watch Demon Lord 2099, I'm pretty sure you'll like it. it aired its final episode today and ended pretty well though I really really want another season that might never happen. it manages to mash up like four different premises into a weird alchemy that works. basically Demon Lord resurrects 500 years later, but his world and Earth have merged in the meantime, causing a calamity that resolves into a magic cyberpunk dystopia. So clearly some light novel writer got really into Shadowrun, then read one of those bad 'demon lord reincarnates, nobody recognizes him, he proves the doubters wrong' and got mad at the wasted potential and nonexistent character writing. in addition to a really cool setting and premise, it has very likable characters. by the end you just want to hang out with Veltol, his wife, and his friends.

Couldn't disagree any more on Ranma ½. I love the old anime, I have all the DVDs, ONAs, movies, etc and have watched them all multiple times, yes even the bad seasons (😂) But the remake is such a different experience. The pacing is a lot better, Akane is a much relatable and likable character, Ranma feels more defined and consistent, Ryoga is more of a scoundrel... Do I miss some of the filler? Yes, characters like Nabiki, Genma, Soun, lose a little of their personalities, but the story flows so much better because of it. The most important part is that the romance between Ranma and Akane feels like it is slowly progressing at a stady pace, unlike in the original anime where it seem like it was constantly fluctuating on and off, up and down, hot and cold (no pun intended) I don't think the remake has taken away any of the love I have for the original series, but it has made me appreciate how Rumiko originally intended the story to be. It wasn't until this remake that I understand why she didn't care much for the old anime. I still love it tho!
ayye dungeon meshi And its fair maybe nessesary that, its still great but dark with a n engaging drama. Which is better because you like the group a lot. Its still wholesome but also gripping.
Had a thought rolling around in my head, I have noticed that in all the Gundam anime there is always a "Wing" gundam. Is it just me but is there a reason for that, does it connect all the series together or something. I've always wondered just how many types of gundams are there.
Hard disagree on the new Ranma 1/2. The OG was my first anime fandom. I lived, breathed and adored every bit of it, and seeing the new interpretation has been a highlight of my week. The new VAs do a great job with the comedy and if you're a purist, the Japanese vocals brought back a lot of the original cast. The wild colors during combat was a fun artistic choice I thought, and I'm honestly confused when people bring up the supposed lack of nudity. Ranma girl form is topless *a lot* if she's not totally nude. Just feels like a weird hill to die on, is what I'm saying. Fight choreography is stellar too, and the modern animation does some sweet things with camera angles that track the action. I'm just saying, if the OG is a classic this feels like an admirable effort. The OVAs were peak of course, and it's going to be impossible to match the crazy production values those shows got at the time. But as far as TV series to TV series, they're both wonderful. Thanks for all your work.
@@MykiiMescal it's true, but the manga itself has an inconclusive ending. It would be wild if Takahashi uses the remake to give Ranma and Akane the resolution they deserve.
