Pool looks amazing. I found your videos from searching salt water startup videos (purchased the system this year) to know what I need to do even I fill pool up (get water tested before adding salt or not). I'm also glad to see that there's someone on here from VA that leaves their pool up. I've been nervous about doing that so I take mind down every year. Im over at the foot of the blie ridge mountains side. I do have one suggestion tho if pool supply prices ever go down. You should upgrade your inlet strainers to 1.5" to get the most out of your sand filter. I did that to my previous pool and to skinner pulled so much better. I also upgraded to a Hayward inwall skimmer last year which is nice also.
Thanks for watching our videos. Yes, we love our saltwater pool! We were insanely nervous at first with mostly confusion but now we realize we made the best decision we could have ever made.. Now we have so little to worry about. Thanks for your suggestions we have always wanted to accomplish your ideas as well but just nervous about cutting into the pool to make the Hayward skimmer switch and switch over to the 1.5" hoses to the pump as well. We are planning on relocating in the next few years so this equipment and the pool will stay but we will try it on our next new pool install.
@@MoverandShaker I was also nervous about cutting into the pool to do the 1.5" inlets (done them on my first pool) but I was given a free pool so honestly wouldn't be out anything if I messed up. Hi! I jist came across your video - so helpful! I need to winterize our saltwater pool for the first time. Do you have a video about your winterizing process? I can't seem to find it if you do. Thanks in advance!
th-cam.com/video/kvh7KATxi58/w-d-xo.html. We did this last year. We We'll probably do another one in a few days just so that if anything is changed it would be updated
We have an 18’ x 48” about 7500 gallon above ground (best way) we did chlorine last year and I bought a salt cell to use this year instead of buying chlorine. We took it all the way down (drained and put away) I have never used a salt cell - when we get it all set up and filled again, I was told to run the pump for about 24 hours with about 4 bags of salt before turning on the cell. What do you suggest I do to officially open with no water and having to start fresh?
You should fill up your pool 1st and circulate the water for 8hours with the pump on and then get a water sample to your local pool store with a sample of your water. At this point, you need to follow the suggested add-ins in order to get your water completely balanced before starting the salt water chlorinator. And yes that means you have to put certain chemicals in your pool first. Once your water is completely balanced then Then slowly add your salt per the saltwater manual and you will need to let it Circulate for the amount of hours for your size pool to make sure everything has dissolved very well. Then you need to check your salt levels with salt water strips to make sure It's in the range for your size pool after that you should be on cruise control. The only time we've had to add more salt is if there are heavy rains or we do more backwashing than usual. We very rarely ever have to add anything 2our pool again.
Do u drain past the ports , with winterizing? How does the salt water affect your vinyl liner? I'm thinking about switching to salt water this summer 🤔
The salt has not had any effect on the vinyl liner itself. Yes we drain past the ports but that is not required with the use of strainer hole plugs however for safety sake since our pool is near the house we do it as a precaution
We're not familiar with the ozone one however we switch to salt water and once you get past the learning curve of the initial setup it is the best decision you'll ever make because you spend less time worrying about the chemical content of your pool and you also save money because you're not buying chemicals all the time so yes recommended as long as you are willing to put in the effort to take care of your pool to keep the salt off of your pool after every use by rinsing It
Well you're gonna have to get your pool balanced anyways in order to start fresh so you might want to take a look at our green pool video video that might help.
