UPDATE! 1 Year later and I couldn't be happier, pool stays clear and all I have to do is run my pool robot cleaner. I did just swap out the copper cartridge for the first time at $99. Looks like once a year is all I'll have to do on a changeout. I still don't run chemicals, but you should keep an eye on your PH and TDS as that benefits the system working. I still highly recommend this system, it's so easy to use.
So you dont shock at all? I have a Permasalt system with that same copper ionizer and the Permasalt system recommends a cal-hypo shock, oxidizer and enzymes to eat body oils as part of the total water care.
Thanks for the great video. I’m a water chemist and we have been using silver and copper ionization in the industrial market for 20 years. It certainly works for the nations biggest hospitals. The aeration from the fountain should actually lower your pH slightly, not raise it, by producing a small amount of carbonic acid. But the biggest benefit is the buffering capacity of the carbonic acid cycle vs solely typical hydrochloric acid cycle with no intermediate ion. You’re also using a robot regularly which contributes to your crystal clear water by scrubbing up and filtering the organics before algae has a change to bloom. Don’t discount the importance of balanced pH though, aeration and boric acid will certainly help maintain pH, but it’s imperative people check and balance their pH with muratic acid or in very rare cases soda ash. The eye stinging some people get from pools is usually not associated with chlorine but high pH.

Oh wow I'd go broke if I ran mine 24/7. Sounds like you need a solar pool pump, at least it can save you a pile of money during the daytime. Feel the need to run your other pool pump you could valve into and run it at night time.
The user most probably has a variable speed pump, which can potentially consume less power running 24 hours vs a single speed pump running for 8 hours per day. @TKCL
Have a dolphin pool cleaner that is six years old I thought it broke so I purchased another one about two years ago but then I found out I just needed a power supply so now I have two. They are very expensive but they are built like tanks 👍 FYI mine stays in the pool and runs everyday but I am surrounded by trees..
That’s awesome! I appreciate the video. I’m going to get one but I’m still going to shock occasionally to break down body oils and sunblock. The acid is just to control PH so peoples eyes don’t burn and help your equipment last longer.
We have a solar ionizer and unfortunately the copper has stained our pool terribly. (We didn’t clean off the copper tube weekly) but we’ve had no algae in years and we only may add a tablet once in a while (like when and if we remember.) It’s been great for our skin(we bought this because our grandson uses it mostly in the summer regularly.)
Sounds like your ionizer was turned up too high, assuming it's adjustable. That's why you need to occasionally run copper tests and adjust accordingly.
You still need to balance your ph or the water will pull the base or acid from your equipment water wants to be balance and it will attack your pool to do so. Other than that the copper is a sanitizer that will clean the water 8:54
2 questions, 1. Have you tried one gallon of Clorox instead of the tablets weekly. Up here in Alabama we are just about in the same temperature zones and one gallon offsets the hi price of chlorine. I have checked my water since march without any problems. I do love my Ionizer! 2. How far down did you bury your pool and what did you back fill the sides with? Thanks Mike Clark Also like the videos.
Thank you so much for the video and being so informative. We have been replacing all toxic chemicals in our house, and I have really been bothered by the thought of our grandkids continuing to spend the summer swimming in chemicals. I have a couple of questions. We just took our winter cover off today. (Southern West Virginia) Our water is green. 😅 Do we need to get it clear before we start using this system. Also, we used Baquacil last summer. Will that matter to this system, if any of that is still remaining in the water? Thanks so much.
I've been debating this but have read that the copper can turn light hair green similar to chlorine . Me and one of our kids have light blonde hair lol.
My friend that's had one of these for 5 years has very light blonde hair herself. She's had zero issues. What you want to do is test every so often and make sure you keep the copper at required levels.
The nice thing too about not having to use chlorine is inhaling the fumes. I had that lap pen to me years ago went to open the container of chlorine tablets and got a lung full of fumes! Thought I was going to choke to death. That’s probably why I have breathing issues even now.
I was wondering how often you run your filter after the initial start up? I also saw on their web site that they say to use a packet of shock every week or two. Also a quart bottle of clarifier every two weeks. Do you do that or is it ok to just run the filter alone?
I run the filter and ionizer about 8-9 hours a day during summer. I've added nothing else, I'd for try not adding the other stuff unless you see you need it.
I have the Power Ionizer on my 30’x54” above ground that we purchased in March of 2023, when we purchased it from the pool store they told us these are not completely self sufficient and it takes the place of the chlorine tablets but we still have to put 2 pounds of shock in our pool weekly and on the initial fill we had to put 2 40 pound bags of salt said it gives the copper and silver something to bind to to create the sanitizer. We run the ionizer 24/7 and usually run it on 4, we opened our pool in April for the 2024 season and have fought it for the last 4 weeks to keep it clear even using chlorinated shock it only stays clear 3-5 days. 2023 we rotated every other week with chlorinated and in-chlorinated shock and never had any issues.
I have the ionizer that looks like a blue football. I can’t get any info on how to close it. I think I’ll just unplug it and store it until spring and hope for the best. 🤷🏼♀️ oh I also bought the dolphin escape because of this video and I love it. Only thing is that it doesn’t shut off at 2 hours and you need to shut it off or it will fry it.
@@TKCL have had mine in for about 4 weeks I am in central NC. After running at 4 for a few days I slowly dropped it now I keep it at a one and have for about 3 days the water is beautiful. I just left a review on Amazon with photos. I have a 18500 in ground and it works great.
I will, but when our good friend has been running hers for over 5 years now, that's the best review I could ask for. Just had two more viewers say they have been running these for 2 years and 12 years respectively.
Thank you for showing all of these products. I just bought an ionizer and it keeps getting buildup on it. Is that normal and do I clean just about every day?
To begin with I run my on 8 for the first few days after installation. Once you read copper levels in the pool with the test strips, I turn it down to 5 for the rest of the year. Monitor your copper levels and adjust as needed.
Hmm, I was told my water had too much copper and they gave me something to reduce it. We recently switched over to salt water. It definitely is much easier than chlorine. This was a really interesting video. Just out of curiousity, do you know what your copper levels are typically at? Sorry if I missed this in the video. The tests from the pool store (Leslie's) have an acceptable copper range from 0-0.2ppm, and I've always avoided using copper algaecide to stay within this range. I also have an inground with a
So informative! Many Thanks for sharing your experienced wisdom with me! You mention a fountain that cools your pool off. Could you share that link with me here? I can't seem to find it 😱
Dang that's a good pool cleaner... But my old pool was sent up for saltwater and after 5 years of splashing and use the metal side supports started rusting out 🫣🫣
Great video! My salt cell just quit for the second time and I'm going to try this route. Does anyone know if there's any problem with the salt that's already in my water? I'm really hoping I don't have to drain and refill... Thanks!
Actually people add salt to pools with these to get the TDS up for them to work well. I don't know if there is a point where you can have too much though.
That's great news! I already ordered the unit through your Amazon link. I'll do some research and update how it goes. I can't believe this system/method has been around for years and It's not more common. Thanks again for sharing your experience!
@@stemtosternms4438 it's not talked about or pushed because pool places love to sell you chemicals over and over. Make sure you run your pump around the clock the first couple of days and monitor the copper levels. Once established you can run as normal.
I have a few questions that maybe you could answer. If you used a tablet dispenser, how is it that you don't have any chemicals? Don't tablet have stabilizer? Did you completely disregard the setup instructions on the ionizer as well as the maintenance instructions? If so, this seems to be a problem as the copper effectiveness is dependent on balanced water chemistry. How are you killing fecal bacteria as copper doesnt kill it? How are you oxidizing bather waste? Copper has a much much lower rate of disinfection compared to chlorine, how are you handling that? I really want to get away from chemicals, but don't see how this will do that reliably? I read the amazon reviews for the linked product and most are still using chlorine regularly. Please help.
I am trusting 5 years of my friends experience. She does not add chemicals (chlorine) unless she has a bunch of kids over and has a big party, that's rare. All she has done for 5 years ran a copper ionizer. If you have heavy sunblock usage and potential spoiling of the pool from large activities or gatherings, I'd highly recommend you keep liquid chlorine on hand to hit the pool with after those occasions. I might do the same myself to make me feel a little better. With all that said, the ionizer by itself is keeping my pool algae free and clear during one of the hottest summers on record.
@@TKCL Thanks for the reply. I think you said it best, the ionizer is keeping the algae at bay and the water is clear. My issue and concern is sanitation as the copper is 50 to 100 times slower than chlorine at killing bacteria. Clear water doesn't equal safe water.
Hi Andrew ... could you please send me some information on the ionizer unit you are using .I live in europe and struggling to find a unit .many thanks Mitch
The water is crystal clear and that's awesome. And I'm not here to come across like a know it all. Just my thoughts are wondering about sanitization. Kids pee in the pool. Neighbors pee in the pool. Dogs play in the pool. I think that's where chlorine might still be necessary.
Nothing wrong with keeping a jug of liquid chlorine for those instances. I like to avoid chemicals when I can. After a pool party is not a bad time to do this.
Does this power ionizer work with the regular pool paper filters? I assume that part doesnt make a difference as long as its hooked up right. Aloe, how big of a dofference is the "power ionizer" to the "pool ionizer" on amazon? Theres only a few dollars dofference, but i was cuious if anyone could tell what the difference is...? Great video! I subscribed!
I don't see why that should make any difference. As for the two different brands, I went with the power ionizer because that's what my friend has had for 6 years and it's been reliable.
I've looked at them myself, reviews seem decent. I hadn't planned on running one because mine is working so well. Too much copper can cause staining issues.
It's a 27 ft pool called The Deep Dubai, it's 54 in deep. I did buy the sand filter from them in the package deal. The ionizer I bought off of amazon, links are in this video's description.
Should work with any pool, you'll need to find the adapters to put this I line with your hoses. You will also need to monitor the copper levels and adjust as needed.
That is a great set up yo have for your lazy man's pool. Using science instead of chemicals. I am curious how does the sunscreen and stuff like that get filtered out of the pool? Have you thought about building an outdoor shower and adding an outdoor bathroom? Guest wouldn't drip water through your house when the urge hits them. That would help keep the pee out of your pool too!
This is the one I've been using for a year and it works great. amzn.to/3DRBXN4 I tried multiple cheaper models and they were all horrible. You get what you pay for.
I just got my pool installed I will be getting one of these units.did you use the salt for initial start up? I’m really interested in this unit. I’m here researching like crazy before I order it
Hello. So im wondering how i can lower my copper levels on my pool i have an intex 12x30 and put the ionizer you have . Now my copper levels are at 2 ppm. At what levels do you keep your pool? And how often do you run the ionizer? I have sand filter pump and I'm trying to not add any chemicals to my pool. Is it save to swimm in the pool with this much copper? I will really appreciate it your opinions since you have this ionizer and you seem to know alot.
There is adjustments on the front of the machine, up and down arrows. I typically run mine on 5 or 6. If your levels are high, go to a lower setting and monitor with the test strips. I never monitor mine to be honest, a setting of 5 or 6 running for roughly 9 hours a day is perfect for our 30ft pool. Being round we have a lot more water than you, so your results will vary.
You need to test your TDS and see the range it's in. People actually add salt to get the TDS in range for the ionizers. With that said you could be too high, a partial flush might be required.
Can't be worse than all those chemicals. You use copper test strips to keep levels in check and adjust the ionizer accordingly. The only problems I've heard of with high copper levels is hair and waterline staining.
@@TKCL oh didn’t see that there is a copper test strip. I only see half of anything I watch because one of my young’ins walks in talking. Thanks for the reply.

Get what you pay for when it comes to that kind of stuff
That’s awesome! I appreciate the video. I’m going to get one but I’m still going to shock occasionally to break down body oils and sunblock. The acid is just to control PH so peoples eyes don’t burn and help your equipment last longer.
I think that would be a good idea.
Using a similar system, same results! ionizes are amazing! I run 1 3in chlorine tablet a week.
I love this system
ionizing, aireation and ozone are the way to go.
We have a solar ionizer and unfortunately the copper has stained our pool terribly. (We didn’t clean off the copper tube weekly) but we’ve had no algae in years and we only may add a tablet once in a while (like when and if we remember.)
It’s been great for our skin(we bought this because our grandson uses it mostly in the summer regularly.)
I use a dolphin it’s great!
Awesome content. Thanks for sharing. Love the channel. 🤠
Thank you for watching
2 questions, 1. Have you tried one gallon of Clorox instead of the tablets weekly. Up here in Alabama we are just about in the same temperature zones and one gallon offsets the hi price of chlorine. I have checked my water since march without any problems. I do love my Ionizer!
2. How far down did you bury your pool and what did you back fill the sides with? Thanks Mike Clark Also like the videos.
Never tried clorox. We buried about 20 inches at the deepest part and back filled with a clay/sand mixture we have here.
Nice backyard!!
Thanks, we work hard on it.
I have an ionizer, was going to add some UV and ozone
The nice thing too about not having to use chlorine is inhaling the fumes. I had that lap pen to me years ago went to open the container of chlorine tablets and got a lung full of fumes! Thought I was going to choke to death. That’s probably why I have breathing issues even now.
It's a nasty chemical, that's for sure.
Enjoy the American flag blowing in the wind behind you. nice video, sent it to my brother-in-law
I love having that flag
This is cool! Thanks for sharing! I need to check into this
A year later and ours is working perfectly.
Does this work with a cartridge filter system instead of a sand filter? Thanks for the info.
It certainly should, as the filter systems only there to remove particles.
We’ve used an ionizer for two years on our 30’ pool with cartridge filter , excellent results.
Interesting, my Dolphin shuts off automatically every single time. Something isn't right with yours.
Beautiful pool. Great video.💖
Thank you for watching
May I ask why you chose ionizer of salt chlorine generator. I'm trying to decide which to buy for my pool
Don't want any harsh salt in my pool or chlorine. None of it is good for equipment or your skin.
Just ordered one. I’ll let you know.
A year later and our pool is still perfect, practically no maintenance.
@@TKCL have had mine in for about 4 weeks I am in central NC. After running at 4 for a few days I slowly dropped it now I keep it at a one and have for about 3 days the water is beautiful. I just left a review on Amazon with photos. I have a 18500 in ground and it works great.
Can you do a video on the install of this or at least give a basic idea how to install it? I love the videos by the way
Click the pool series Playlists on the channel, I showed my plumbing installation.
Hi read some reviews let us know in a year how it's working
I will, but when our good friend has been running hers for over 5 years now, that's the best review I could ask for. Just had two more viewers say they have been running these for 2 years and 12 years respectively.
I have had mine about 14 years. Best thing since sliced bread 😊
Thank you for showing all of these products. I just bought an ionizer and it keeps getting buildup on it. Is that normal and do I clean just about every day?
I've just changed mine for the first time in a year. I never check it, but being copper I fully expect it to have an reaction and have build up.
Like a fancy version of PoolRx
I would like to see if there’s a pool cooler other than the fountain
There is, I'll be building one eventually 😉
Is there a set up video

th-cam.com/video/ImhZ0RA0iZY/w-d-xo.html
Here you go!
Question can you tell me the settings for the ionizer I had one but never known if I live it in 4 or more. Thank great video
To begin with I run my on 8 for the first few days after installation. Once you read copper levels in the pool with the test strips, I turn it down to 5 for the rest of the year. Monitor your copper levels and adjust as needed.
@@TKCL Thanks a lot 🙏
Hmm, I was told my water had too much copper and they gave me something to reduce it. We recently switched over to salt water. It definitely is much easier than chlorine. My pool is only around 8000 gallons. I love my Dolphin vac, we call her Flipper. 🐋🐋 Will have to think about this system you use. Does your friend also have a video? Thanks for the video.👍🏻
Copper might be a problem for other systems, but not for this one. You need to keep the copper in a certain range, that's easily tested with strips.
Hi Andrew 👋. I have the same copper system in my pool works amazing, but i decided to try salt water just to see. What i have noticed is a funny smell in our hair after using the pool. Have you guys had anything like that happen? Thank you and we love you guys, great content
Zero smell just using the ionizer. We are in the pool almost every single day.
I also have an inground with a
Zero staining issues. I rarely check my levels, but last week I was 0.4 ppm.
any links to the robot cleaner?
awesome video!!!!!
This is the one I use amzn.to/4cSE9TU Pricey but works very well. I tried several cheaper ones and they were all horrible.
What do you think of the floating pool ionizers for a small pool above ground of course
Have not tried those yet.
So informative! Many Thanks for sharing your experienced wisdom with me! You mention a fountain that cools your pool off. Could you share that link with me here? I can't seem to find it 😱
Here is the video with links in the description.
May I ask where you purchased your pool ladder please? Thank you. Elizabeth
From Amazon, it now shows discontinued.
@@TKCL darn it! Thank you.
I live in an area where it gets very cold in the winter. Do you know what “winterizing” would look like for us once we use the copper ionizer?
Same as normal, drain all lines and filters. The ionizer is a hollow tube so water will flow right out.
Dang that's a good pool cleaner... But my old pool was sent up for saltwater and after 5 years of splashing and use the metal side supports started rusting out 🫣🫣
Yep, another reason I wanted to avoid salt.
Do you have a link for the actual above ground pool ?
I sure don't, we got it from Pool Warehouse. I believe it was called the Deep Dubai
So does the copper dissipate or gets filtered out? If not then once the water is saturated with copper wouldn’t you be good to go without adding more?
It gets flushed out with heavy rainfall, backwashing the filter ect.
What is the blue container that the copper is attached to .
Sand, for my sand filter.
You're quick
Do you have a video on set up and where to buy these things
@@cajunvegan7716 I try.
Again years of people I know using it and I've heard of no ill effects. If the concern is there, liquid chlorine is your friend.
Hi Andrew ... could you please send me some information on the ionizer unit you are using .I live in europe and struggling to find a unit .many thanks Mitch
This is the one I use, specs are on this website but you will need to purchase from a EU site. amzn.to/3M9lxDS
Can you give me a basic set up for it I’m setting up a pool and I’d like to go this route what will I need in addition for the system?
That's going to vary based on your pump and hoses. You will need to get the ionizer and then the fittings that fit your filter or hoses.
I have seen they have solar copper ionizers and was working if you have heard anything about them or have any opinions on them?
I've looked at them myself, reviews seem decent. I hadn't planned on running one because mine is working so well. Too much copper can cause staining issues.
Where did you purchase that pool??
Pool warehouse online.
Awesome thanks!! i love your setup!!
Whats the size? How deep is it? Im looking at poolwarehouse
Dimensions? Also did u buy the sand filter from there? I would love to try that setup and also with the ionizer system
It's a 27 ft pool called The Deep Dubai, it's 54 in deep. I did buy the sand filter from them in the package deal. The ionizer I bought off of amazon, links are in this video's description.
Do you know if this would work with a Coleman’s above ground pool? Ours doesn’t have a sand filter… would we need to put one in?
Should work with any pool, you'll need to find the adapters to put this I line with your hoses. You will also need to monitor the copper levels and adjust as needed.
Nice to know, shade sails should make a cool video 👍
Don't want to ruin my view, we love swimming at night and looking at the stars.
Yes I do have plans for those in the future. We try to limit how much sun screen we use. So far no issues seen.
I have read that copper stains the liner over time
That's only if you run too high of levels. The machine is adjustable. 1 year later and mine isn't stained.
@@TKCL interesting. I would love to use something like this but I'm very leary
@@karyjohnson5708 I couldn't be any happier with mine.
What typenof vacuum do you use and recommend
Also we have been using a solar copper ionizer float.
This is the one I've been using for a year and it works great. amzn.to/3DRBXN4
I tried multiple cheaper models and they were all horrible. You get what you pay for.
I just got my pool installed I will be getting one of these units.did you use the salt for initial start up? I’m really interested in this unit. I’m here researching like crazy before I order it
I did not add salt, but I have heard of that working well to get your TDS up.
@@TKCL thanks. I will place my order.

@@TKCL yup. Got it from there
I just put my pool up and purchased a salt filter and added salt. Could I still use this or do I have to dump all the water and add fresh water?
You need to test your TDS and see the range it's in. People actually add salt to get the TDS in range for the ionizers. With that said you could be too high, a partial flush might be required.
Costco sells a solar floating version.
Id be curious how it compares.
Did you ask your friend how long the copper cartridge will last?
Manufacturer says replace yearly, they are $83 on Amazon. My friend just replaced hers after 5 years 😳
Will the copper level in the pool be high? Kids gulping water or just absorbing it don’t want any OD type stuff happening. Wondering.
@@TKCL Our granddaughters' beautiful blonde hair all turned green last summer when we were using a copper ionizer. I don't know what to do. We loved how it worked otherwise, but their moms were pretty upset about their daughters' hair.
Hey I really like your video but I got a question maybe you can answer for me I got an above ground pool 18' foot round pool by 48" deep you think I can use this on my pool I found out that they also have a floating one that does the same thing but my pool is only 6700 gallons what are your thoughts please advise thanks in advance 😊
You can use it on any pool, you will need to figure out how to adapt it into your filter or hoses.
Did you have to add any special chemicals at all when you first installed this kit?
I did not, but I had heard people recommend adding salt to the pool at the very beginning I'm not sure why.
The pool store where we purchased ours said you have to add salt because the copper and silver ions have to have something to bind to in the water to be able to create sanitizer, we had to add 80 pounds for our 30’x54” above ground pool.
Wish i had seen this before buying the salt qater generator. Im already struggling with it
1 year later and my pool is super easy to maintain.
Does this ionizer not leave any metals in the water? Or is everyone using products to pull the metal out?
There is a small risidual, you use copper test strips to keep it in range.
