Dude, this is crazy. I have most the exact same bass and for the exact same reasons, made at the same time! I love yours. Only real difference between ours is my body is a burst finish.
I recently completed my own intended "one bass to rule them all". A heavily customized 1980 Yamaha Pulser p bass copy (I love the vintage Japanese stuff). But it has failed to replace the go-to vintage modified Squier jazz bass in my collection. Which just confirm that I really do need more than one bass. So that's good.

This bass is perfectly matched with the body color, hardware color, and that roasted neck look.......nothing ridiculously stands out that makes it look off-balanced. Looks like a well-thought-out solid bass....well done. I tell you,......orange is the sleeper color when it comes to basses.
@@LowEndLobster I chose the same style pickups for my Squier Vintage model. My pickups are by Rockfield, however, I can not find any vendor online where you can buy them as a set. I don't even know if they even offer them. I also put an Audere preamp in mine, I do plan to swap out the aftermarket high-mass bridge with Hipshot's Kickass 4-string bridge that has sideways adjustable saddles to help center and properly space the strings over the huge magnet poles better.
Sounds very modern, but i love the humcancelling 60´s placed J pickup; tweaking the preamp can sound more classic. And the paint job doesn´t look bad at all. Great job Lobster!

Orange is my favourite colour. This bass looks incredible . I would have likely stayed with Fender stock pre and pickups myself since I am just use to them. Maybe a detuner on the E would be a nice addition.
That came out so awesome!! It sounds fantastic as well. I had a motorcycle that I had repainted in Lambo orange. No pics can ever do that color justice. Love the black hardware and pickguard with it too. Funny thing, I have a bass I inherited from my uncle that I plan to spruce up in tribute. I was just talking to a buddy at a body shop about the possibility of painting the body with automotive paint. First on my list was that very same color because I know just how awesome it is lol.
That paint job is ludicrously cool. Makes me wonder about other automotive finishes that would look good on guitars. I'm thinking British racing green would be pretty cool

Unfortunately my father sold it from under me and never kept the contact info for who bought it, but its somewhere in Western NY. Those 91 BRG SE's are the one to get. Perfect balance that lets you kick out the rear end while still maintaining perfect control at 6k rpm without you or the car breaking a sweat. I honestly liked it more than the 300ZX twin turbo from the same era.
I’m a real fan of the look of a butterscotch Tele. This orange to me just oozes and drips class of a certain level. Having been in metal fab work, black anodizing is . . . I’d go nickel aluminum bridge and nickel hardware. Strings would be flats - bell bronze nut and saddles. Bakelite guard could be either brown or black, but that bakelite is creamy in keeping with the orange.Roasted quartersawn maple neck with a slab rosewood fingerboard and hipshot ultralight tuners. Fralin split jazz might be my fave pickup choice with low noise and a little girth. If I could only have one bass, it might be like this.

I would love to see you review 845V or 846V from Ibanez, or why not the new EHB 1006MS or the shorter 1005SMS? Or mod a SRMD205? Would love to se a multiscale 5-string at 34-32 or perhaps even 33-31. Roasted maple neck and so on... Is there any out there? Wish Ibanez or Cort reads this and makes it happen.

I've been sitting on some parts to in a similar direction except I have a set of MEC pickups from a Warwick vampire. I want a similar orange but in a trans finish since I have a swamp ash body.
Nice! I’m putting together my ultimate fretless Jazz bass. I have a Warmoth mahogany body with clear satin finish, CTS stacked knob control plate, Badass lll bridge and Hipshot tuners. I just haven’t decided on the neck. I want a unlined fretless ebony board. Seeing your build is kicking my but to start putting mine together. 👍🏾👍🏾

That’s an awesome bass. Those delanos sound great. Cause of the one pole per string it can get close to a stingray sound. Those necks are nice. I have one on a squier of mine. Speaking of squier have you seen the 2022 squier bass line? Roasted necks, curved neck heels, hi mass bridges 😱 they also have a ph bass in 4 and 5 string. Humbucker in the bridge position. I had a very similar "idea" of ultimate Jazz bass and I've built it last year with the help of a friend who was a luthier that put some cherry on tops of my work, it sounds and looks killer, might not be the best bass that money can buy (altho it plays and sounds better than any Jazz Bass that I've tried) but it's *my* bass and I would never get rid of it because it's amazing, heavy as fuck tho lol. This sounds almost the same as mine because of the high quality pickups and preamp, I love it, it even has a Fender roasted mexican Neck, altho I have the standard one, not the Vintera. What can I say, great choice of parts and colors!

Have you seen the 40th anniversary squier upcoming releases? Really loving the Olympic white with gold jazz. Very nice looking basses with Indian laurel fretboard, which I am really interested on the feel. I watched your squier contemporary review vid and it kept me away from buying it since it was described as feeling very similar to rhino skin lol good looking out
I am not a fan. Those Squiers are all about looks, however the build quality and quality of materials in general has never impressed me in those Squiers.

Great video! I've got an American Original 50s P Bass and am looking at the Hipshot Ultralite Tuners. It appears that the tuner holes in the headstock are the same size as your jazz neck. Did you use the 1/2" Tuners? And did you have to wrap the bushing with tape? Thanks in advance!
Heyo! Yes they're 1/2", and I'm not sure for the tape. You can also buy bushings from hipshot if you don't want to do the tape trick. Also check out the Gotoh Res O Lite GB640, I put those on my Tony Franklin (I did a recent video on this). Happy modding!
Hey Lobster, have you tried the Fender Dimension? I know it’s one of those discontinued basses from Fender but since you have some Musicman, it’d be interesting to hear your take on them.
Sounds really great! Just curious what options you would choose differently in 2022 if you had to choose again? For my money the John East preamp is the best replacement drop in preamp out there. Also would love to see you try out a Mike Pope flexcore preamp on one of your projects. Just got one and it sounds incredible with Aguilar super doubles. Enjoy your new old bass.

Really like the looks and sound of this instrument! Some careful thought went into selecting the components from which it was assembled.
