19:22 I live in the USA. Years ago, a friend brought back chocolate made in Switzerland that she said the Swiss government will not allow to be commercially exported. I had one of those and immediately lost ALL respect for Hershey. The comparison with genuine Swiss chocolate made Hershey bars taste like brown plastic.

    • @treg5298

Apparently there's not much chocolate (cacao) in Hershey's chocolate. It's around 10% while other chocolates are often 25-35% or higher. Swiss chocolate has more milk in it, giving it a nice flavor/texture. Ingredients do matter.

I noticed over December ( the middle of our summer) that most of the apples we were buying were brown in the middle. So I Googled it and learned that apples are actually considered a winter fruit. That's why most winter deserts consist of apple pie, and baked stewed fruits. Knowing that they freeze the fruit explains why they were brown in the center. Thanks for another great video!

I’ve known that peanuts were legumes since I was knee high to a ladybug!
And ice milk is a thing. It’s a lighter version of ice cream. (My local convenience store had a Heavenly Hash ice milk that was divine!) They call it low-fat or light ice cream nowadays

Another weird thing on the secretly vegan (and a not vegan vegetable flavor) is Stove Top Stuffing. Sage flavor is actually not vegan because it has chicken broth (dried, so I suppose technically bouillon) in the mix. In a weird twist, though, "Pork" Stove Top stuffing isn't just vegetarian but fully vegan.

Advertising, or the loss of, is the problem there. It's nothing to do with "community".

My mom cooks her own pumpkin. A pie baked with it tastes so much better. I dread pumpkin spice season cuz it is everywhere. It tastes nothing of pumpkin.

Here's a tip for those who would rather eat wild salmon than farmed, and want to be sure that's what you're buying: at 6:19 you can see the farmed salmon (on the right) has much more prominent white stripes than the wild. Those stripes are fat - farmed salmon is fattier than wild

IIRC baby carrots are mostly made from too small or otherwise "misshaped" carrots that wouldn't otherwise be marketable as they are. So, basically, stuff that would otherwise be sold for animal food or just thrown to waste. But they are still priced higher than just plain carrots.

Why does ice cream and cheese need to have certain percentage to be called milk, but artificial truffle flavor can be called truffle oil?

I love Red Delicious apples - they're super sweet and the crunchier the better. But yeah, the ones I purchase over the winter lose that super crunchy quality and turn soft. And they're also not as sweet. I guess I should just wait until Autumn to buy.

That's what apples do naturally. Anyone with an apple tree in their yard knows this. They're not meant to last for12 months. It also depends on the variety. Some are "dessert" varieties and some are "cooking" varieties which makes a huge difference in how long an apple stays good. Waiting till autumn is a great tip.
Red Delicious is a dessert variety so these apples don't last as long.
      I like Honey Crisp apples.

I HAVE made pumpkin pie knowing it was actually pumpkin. It’s simple. Buy the pumpkin from a farmer’s market or a roadside stand. Our city has a farmer’s market as well as a special place called Pecan Park where I think people pay to set up a space there (not exactly sure but I think so). It opens only on Thursdays in the morning and closes at 4 pm. I bought my pumpkin there. I canned the contents, which turned out beautifully! I had enough to make about 6 pies, IIRC. The pumpkin had a nickname, the Peanut pumpkin as it had growths on its skin that looked like peanuts! Plus it was easier to call it that because it had a French name. And the taste was very much like sweet pumpkins, the famous orange ones we see at Halloween.

In the Navy, any officer in command of a vessel is called Captain, regardless of actual rank. So technically, Ensign Crunch could be called Captain Crunch while in command.
