    In a way I am surprised that Albion hasn’t had more of a social media push. I never would have heard of them if not for Skallagrim. Thanks for showing off this awesome sword!

      I heard about them the same way. I have the Laird, it's beautiful

      I only found out about them because I happened to walk by their offices in New Glarus one day!

    What a pleasant Sunday surprise! Great review on a piece from Albion I hadn’t even considered before. It’s always nice as well to see you can share your hobbies with family, makes it all even better. Here’s hoping for more videos

    Love that intro!
    And damn - I know that infomercial is just a cheap wall hanger, but your sales pitch makes me feel like I need that AMAZING REP-LIC-AH!
    But seriously though, amazing & thorough review on the Albion. From talking about attention to detail on the grind marks, your opinion on the risers, how edge geometry and stiffness effect the function of a blade, to noting the marks on the pommel casting for those that want a 'perfect' sword.
    Glad to see you back my friend and can't wait to watch your next one!

    hell yeah, that sword was very sharp.
    as for the pommel, you can extend its shinyness by applying a clear coat at it after polishing.

    I put a convex edge on a completely blunt sword by hand, it is a ton of work! Albion does such a good job of getting those edges just right.

    • @MattsGreatHall
      @MattsGreatHall  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can respect that! Did it hold the edge? I’ve always wondered if a sword would lose it’s heat treatment if you use a band sander and do it quickly.

    • @WillyShakes
      @WillyShakes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MattsGreatHall believe it or not, I did it with a hand file, lots of sandpaper, a manual Work Sharp Pivot Pro, and a leather strop. I think since it was a drawn out process done manually, it never heated up like it would with a belt sander.

    Great Video on the Sovereign, Buddy :-) Albion are truly a class of its own ... i had a Albion Ulvbane, but sold that one ... i still have my Albion Atlantean (but unsharpened). Cheers, Erik

    If you do change the grip, could you make a video out of it ? I’m planning on buying an Albion Knightly from the squire line and I find the grip a bit dull, so I’d be very interested to watch a video showing how to change it !
    Great work as always,
    Cheers from France

    Very nice review, you earned my sub. I noticed during the cutting tests your daughter's edge alignment seemed off with one of her cuts, it looked like she hit the bottle with the flat of the sword. Maybe some father-daughter bonding is in order?

    Very nice video as always !
    Albion is very unique sword manufacturer indeed their swords are very good.
    Although I would personally recommend the works of Gaël Fabre, a french sword smith who makes his swords with great care and attention to historical details crafting exact replicas from archeological artefacts using the same historical materials (handmade steal and iron from original raw minerals), shape, weight, finishing (polished by hand) and technique (forged the way they actually were at the time).
    Thank you again for your videos:)

    • @MattsGreatHall
      @MattsGreatHall  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m aware of Gael Fabre’s work! I follow him on Instagram and I’m really astonished by his skill. His recent Viking sword with the copper/silver hilt and guard is definitely museum-level work. I wish I had that kind of skill!

    You can get wire wrapped grips, bronze or steel pommels, antique, polish or satin crossguards and different grip colors. So they do have some customization options.

    Seeing a comparison between the knight and the templar will be much appreciated Matt, also from your experience handling them both how floppy are they? I read some reviews saying they way too floppy while using and also cant use for thrusting

    • @MattsGreatHall
      @MattsGreatHall  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment, Ron. The Knight isn’t a wonderful thruster-the Templar is a far stiffer blade. I should definitely do a comparison video.

    I've got a sword with a brass (not bronze) pommel and guard, and a bit of auto polish (almost odorless) on a rag and some elbow grease it goes straight to a mirror golden look. Perhaps that may work on your own pommel as well

    I can't makeup my mind, it's down to either the Crecy or the Agincourt.

    • @beerthug
      @beerthug ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the Agincourt is one of Albions best looking swords, if I could only buy 5 it would be their....along with the Sempach and Ringeck. I'm starting with the Reeve, great Christmas present.

    "Barbarian sword"!😂 Congratulations on the Sovereign! I own a sword that's representative of the very last decades of the Middle Ages in Albion's 2nd Generation line, the Burgundian. The Sovereign is NICE! That's Roland Warczecha's sword of choice when it comes to practicing I:33 sword and buckler.
