Stones Throw Records discovered and recorded some of the greatest hip hop that most people never heard of. J Dilla MF Doom Madlib (and all his alter egos) The Dilla/Lib collab was 🔥🔥🔥! McNasty Filth and React got a lot of play from me. If you haven't already seen it, there's a great documentary on the studio and all its artists called "Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton: This Is Stones Throw Records." Check that shit out. It's too bad this video doesn't have more views. You'd think a Rush or Floyd or Zeppelin fan would be more open to expand their musical repertoire. Their loss! Also, I think I mentioned Danger Mouse in another post, who collaborated with Doom as someone you should most definitely check out. One of my personal favorites is Little Girl by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse.
He has such a dope flow, definitely a unique artist, I gotta get more into his stuff. Have you ever heard of Lil Ugly Mane? If not I’d definitely suggest checking him out, virtually all of his songs are insanely good. His lyrics are incredibly good, and his production and sample usage is honestly some of the best I’ve ever heard (the samples he uses in his song “On Doing An Evil Deed Blues” are so, so good, the beat is one of favourites). His album Oblivion Access is really great. Some individual songs that I think you’d enjoy are Grave Within A Grave, Collapse And Appear, Uneven Compromise, and Drain Counter. He’s definitely worth checking out, and really under appreciated in all aspects imo, from his production skills, lyrics etc.

Doom pretty much kinda used Grimm because Grimm knew everyone in NY and he had a lot of money from drugs and whatever. Doom then left him to do KMD with his bro Subroc and they eventually got dropped because of their highly "offensive" album cover on their 2nd(?) album. Subroc also died. He then went back to Grimm and they started back up. Grimm was finally about to possibly have mainstream success and had a deal on the table with a label. His manager (/brother) and him left to go sign and when they got in their vehicle they got rolled up on by a few people and got gunned down. Grimm was shot many times, barely survived and was paralyzed + in a coma. When he came out of the coma his deal was gone and he had a case from the feds on him which sent him to jail. When he got out of jail he found that Doom had been seeing huge success and even worked with Ghostface who I think he met through Grimm. Grimm tried to link up so they could pick back up where they left off and he either refused or just ignored him. Which is pretty fucked up, Grimm felt he was also owed money because he did some executive producing for Doom on some of his tracks as well. I think there was also a diss on the DangerDoom project as well.
