Plymouth to Santander during the Global Pandemic

- Join us as we catch up with old friends, explore Plymouth and set sail on Brittany Ferries' Pont-Aven to Santander. We share how the 2020 Global Pandemic and social distancing measures impact our journey, and wonder if a good "Full English" can only truly be found in England?
EDIT : We booked the "Wheelchair Accessible Room" when we were still unsure how much of an impact George's broken foot would have. We kind of assumed (wrongly) that we would need much more help getting him up to the cabin. Thankfully for us, he is well on the mend. NB: We did also pay for an additional seat.
Our family have been roaming around the UK, Europe and US since 2007. We set off on each trip with only a rough destination in mind, allowing the roads we take and places we stop to evolve as we meet new friends along the way.

Hi guys, I relish your vids, always wanted to visit Spain, France, Portugal but living in South Africa makes it impossible .
Absolutely love the way you guys can hop in your vans and travel . Think I maybe see 1campervan every 3 yrs or so. No such luxury in my part of the world. Thank you for sharing🥰

Is it appropriate to book the very limited disabled cabin facilities if you are not disabled or a blue badge holder with limited mobility? Highly Questionable to book disabled cabin purely to save yourself money. J
Agree with you very selfish for a few pounds saved Would they park in a disabled parking space if the carpark was full Ithink so
jack dunn There are very few cabins on ferries designated for the disabled, I assume due to the extra space required, space is money to Ferry companies. Luckily I’m not disabled but I am aware of the frustrations of disabled people and the abuse of the able bodied using disabled parking spaces, fraudulently using blue badges and the above!
I thought the young lad had a fracture... temporarily disabled maybe..
Robert Bates The person making video was clear, this was a financial wheeze to accommodate 5 overnight for the price of a 4 berth cabin. In someways I don’t blame him as the prices on this route are astronomical, but it still prevents a genuinely disabled person booking appropriate accommodation. It’s not just more space in the cabin for wheel chair access, it’s also a shower and toilet facilities suitable for the disabled particularly in a wheelchair. Since he has a camper van, why not use a shorter crossing to France and D roads to SW? He is totally flexible in van, not so if in a wheel chair.

Ffs some of the comments without knowing the facts, they aren’t disabled cabins, they are wheelchair accessible for four people not five and they paid for an additional seat.

Its Brittany Ferries, all the blumin' staff were French! Also, I've been relearning French as a lockdown hobby, no chance am I missing an opportunity to dazzle with my YorshireFranglaise accent!

Fab video I’m booked on the pont aven in august can anyone tell me if there’s any secure overnight parking in Plymouth ?
Pont aven is the only ship that goes to Santander apart from cotentin a freighter for Brittany ferries there is another way which is cap finistere which requires you to go to Portsmouth so yea
We still have a return crossing booked as we ended up travelling home through France

I enjoyed the video untiil i got to the part where you gave the reason why you booked a disabled cabin, how selfish is that but at the same time Brittany Ferries are as much to blame for allowing you to book a disabled cabin without proof that you (or a family member) are entitled to use it, what a shame after all the effort you have put in making the video only to spoil it with reason you gave for booking the disabled cabin, to save money!!

Yes, just watching now and I am also a little disappointed. Taking a disabled cabin takes away a cabin from someone who uses a wheelchair. I understand, having had 4 children myself, how the cabins are geared towards 2 children families, but all the same. Not really very fair of you.

You are filtered through all the checkpoints as you make your way to the ferry! Don’t worry, follow the signs and the crowds x
Interesting video once again. Funnily enough we lived in Plymouth, form 75 to 2005, holidaying in France once or twice a year and never did the Santander route once preferring the drive through France. We moved over to France in 2005 so only took the car on the Roscoff run back to UK and the return on the Portsmouth-Saint Malo overnighter. Got to admit we did not have one Fatboy full English that we did not relish. Could be because they came free with the Voyagers Club! but still felt a little sorry for you. We wish you all a great holiday.
Ha ha, the croissants looked lovely, I guess the lesson was food follows culture! On a French owned ferry, stick to the French cuisine!

@@RoamingRadfords Yes, still here living the dreams they say. Been here for fifteen years now in a small town about for kilometres north of Lourdes which has all the amenities that we need. The Mayor is an absolute gem and has "walked the extra mile" to procure facilities for the town on many occasions. Thinking about taking the motorhome out for a spin soon as the health restrictions are easing off. We have an Adria Coral Access 670SL, plenty of room for us and the two cats. By the way, do you know about the Brittany Ferries Voyager Club?

Ok I want to go ham, but I feel it's been addressed sufficiently about disabled room booking. Tut,tut,tut. It sucks you done that. But I'm sure your not the only culprits. Maybe Brittany ferries might have to consider proof to secure rooms for disabled customers only.

I’m afraid masks aren’t optional, they are compulsory. We were asked if we had them, and to put them on at Passport Control, before we even got on the ferry.

Roaming Radfords sorry, a broken foot is not a disability in terms of who the disabled cabin is intended for. I’m a full time wheelchair user and have tried to book this cabin on a number of occasions. You have a big family and George could have been helped in a ‘normal’ cabin
