I’ve just done this trip but the other way around, from Madrid to East Sussex. It’s one of the most enjoyable journeys I’ve ever made (and I was British Airways long haul crew for 31 years). After so many years of flying and airports I have a new appreciation for trains and ferry’s. More people should experience them.
Nice video. You can see why your format has by now been copied by so many travel TH-camrs. Often imitated, never duplicated. Actually you have inspired some other good channels, but you do some things in such a simple way that remain unique. From a long-time viewer and subscriber. Best wishes from Hungary.
@@Nooticus Actually, I think he was--if not the very first, certainly among them, and for a time the most popular. By my count, he's been doing it for at least 15 years, on and off. In 2012 I bought train tickets based on his videos and his website--Budapest to Florence via the night train from Vienna, and that wasn't the first time I had seen his videos, so I'm giving him a few extra years beyond the 12 since 2012, and since TH-cam says he joined in stone age of 2008!. Btw, he's not claiming to be the first, I'm awarding him that based on my experience. So, in any case, he is at least first among equals in my estimation. As I said, there are other good train travel channels, but he does some things in such a simply elegant and unique way, in a style that deserves recognition. Thanks for your comment. JG
What a fantastic ferry (Well done Brittany Ferries) + Amazing weather you had for the crossing (+ Seeing dolphins = very special) ! I took the ferry from Plymouth to Santander just a few years ago (as I live in Somerset) ..and then went by train to Malaga - I think your ferry looks maybe better than that one / Im almost compelled to go from Portsmouth, should I go again by sea. Your vlogs are better than anyones else's on YT, hands down the most informative, through what you capture, and no need for a commentary, exceptionally well edited. The food looks very good ..and the cabin, in some ways, better than the QM2 staterooms (which Ive taken 3 times now) !
Lucky day on the Bay of Biscay .. calm, sunny and dolphins, what more could a traveller want? I did the Plymouth - Santander trip in 1992, with the car, then took the overnight motorail service Santander - Malaga. This was before the internet was available, I found the rail service in the Thomas Cook red rail travel book, telephoned the booking office in Santander and got them to read to me (very slowly as I don't speak Spanish) their fax number. It was a TOD (ticket on departure) booking. From Malaga I toured Andalucia, visited Granada, Gibraltar, Expo 1992 in Seville and sampled the AVE high speed train between Seville and Cordoba (with a slower local service coming back). Not sure if I will ever use Brittany Ferries to Spain again, their fares have become crazy expensive compared with flying. Shame.
Great video, thanks! It inspires me to take this trip myself. Nice to see that the ferry is powered by LNG. The Bay of Biscay is surprisingly calm - in which month did you film this?
I use to use this ferry in the 80's and 90's, we named it Vomiting Venus because the initial feeries did not have stabilizers and the Bay of Biscay in the winter is not pleasant. Once had to hove-to in a strong storm and a 24hr trip took over 40 hours. I stopped using it as it was far cheaper driving though France and get local channel ferry than this one. Still, a nice way to travel and recomend it, nut be caitiopus in the winter if you don't have sea legs :)
Very nice video. Im pretty surprised that the ferry to Spain still operates far after all ferries to Scandinavia were permanently suspended. I expect one day we will be an island with no ferries!!
Noticed the Aliva train does a very poor job in aligning the seats with the windows. Hopefully you provided some tips on your website so as avoid having to be stuck in a seat with only a "view" of the bulkhead.
Such a calm Bay of Biscay. You lucked out! Maybe I missed it but how did you get from the ship to the center of town? I saw you were on a bus, did the ferry line provide that, or were you on a public bus from the terminal? Thanks.
@@albertsmyth9616 Yes, a very informative video. Makes the trip look pretty tempting... (But what about the Bay of Biscay and its reputation, says a voice in my head...)
Thank you the ferry trip to Spain is one always wanted to do. Now it seems the mini-cruises that used to be available are not now. So will take EasyJet to Bilbao in September sadly buy hell of a lot cheaper
Excellent and informative video. One nitpick - a trap so many fall into - is that the food and drink at breakfast is NOT complimentary; you have paid for it, realistically speaking, with your ticket purchase. You (and others) should note that breakfast ‘is included.’ (If it was truly ‘complimentary’ the ferry company’s shareholders would swiftly have something to say about that!). Sorry to be a pedant!
Looks very good, excellent aspect of all food except that I am never in favour of all food being open to human elements, at least have transparent covering over it.
I never show prices in a video as videos cannot be edited once uploaded - prices go out of date in a year when the video might be current for 5+ years. But I give a link to my website which shows prices in the description. www.seat61.com/ferry-to-spain.htm
Hi! Did you book the c-club loung? If so, was it worth the £83pp fee? Did you find the prices without the all inclusive expensive? Thanks for the video!
I booked a Club Cabin, so it was included. It depends how much £83 is to you. You could eat all your meals in there for the whole the trip in which case it justifies the cost versus paying in the restaurants for 2 breakfasts, lunch and dinner. But I preferred the food choice & quality in the Azul restaurant - so if I had to choose I'd spend my money on each meal in the restaurant not the lounge.
Good question. I think Id like to do the exact journey he did/ or rather, the exact cabin booking, with whatever was included. I think I will go this way, when I visit Portugal next ..and/ or Galicia.
Greetings from far away (🇦🇺🦘) , thanks for the excellent video. Having experienced numerous functional but forgettable ferry trips from the UK, we expected our Brittany Ferry journey a few years ago to be the same but, oh no, it was as excellent as you’ve show. The holiday very much started upon boarding. Being French, we shouldn’t have been surprised at just how fab the grub was. Happy travels 😎
There is nothing more soothing than travelling on a ship. And it also helps that's all of the food looked jolly delicious!
Great to see you! I've never sen the Bay of Biscay so flat! You had ideal sailing conditions!

Great trip. Yeah, Ferry trip. Remembering me about your old trip with your family, but this time it's from London to Madrid.
I loved it and want to do it now. Thank you.
Would like to see more ferry trips!
Took this trip in 2011 I think. Had the a la carte in the restaurant and wanted to live on the boat forever - exquisite! Best part of the holiday.
Plaza Mayor. 😂 Loved the vid, top quality. 👍

Another great one! What did you think of the ride quality of the Talgo? There's so much talk about those shared bogies/wheels...
It was actually fine.
What was that delicious looking meal at Ship & Castle?

Will always be the tunnel, and ferry services to Calais - for the freight traffic anyway!

Walked. Its right there.
The transfer bus was ferry car deck to terminal building. It’s a 6 minute walk ferry terminal to station.
Excellent video, though judging by the size of those meals, are you now The Man in Seat 61 and 62?
I was thinking exactly that! Jokes aside, a most informative video and takes a lot of the guesswork out of this route. 👍

good vid you went exactly a week after us only downside was the painful nigh on 6 hours wait for the 1420 train...
Indeed! No hotel wanted to sell me a day room for 5h, i had lots of coffee in both the FEVE cafe and the mainline cafe!
Looks like a relaxing journey. How much did it cost?

Its not a trap 😂 thats what complimentary anything always means… (apart from the words use in maths or science contexts)
Slow boat... not a patch on when the Pont Aven ferry did it in 24 hrs..
How much does it roughly cost inc cabin and how long does the crossing take please
