Bottom line is that this song speaks more about HYPOCRISY. One line literally says there's a woman in a jeepney (a public transport) praying using a rosary with eyes closed. She said to the driver, she needs to be dropped off at the convent but the driver said he needs to stop at the proper jeepney stop because there's a traffic enforcer and that he might get caught if he didn't follow the rule. The woman got mad and won't stop cursing because of the inconvenience.
Hypocrisy on its finest .up to this day..How could people learned.?tssk..PH music..are on another level..but Majority of Local talents..not given a chance to..perform on higher stage..Thats why...were underrated.riltok..
Exactly why I stopped going to church when I was still in the Philippines. I witnessed this one lady who was cursing at a little boy (a street vendor selling flowers) for going up to her asking if she would like to buy some flowers. And she just yelled at him and said “aga aga nangungulit ka! Umuwi ka na lang imbis na nambubuwisit ka dito!
I guess we shouldn't judge the Church based on a number of people who doesn't follow the Church's teachings and just cover their true colors by pretense. If people follows the Church's teachings wholeheartedly, they wouldn't be acting the same way as the woman in the song did. Anyway, what a classic song.🙂

There's a Joke about how they got their name YANO. There's this PUB in Q.C. where they perform. They were practically new to the scene and people don't know much about them. One night when they were performing and guest were starting to come in and warm up to them, one customer was outside wanting to get in and ask the guy at the door what band was playing and the Guy at the door replied: "Yan Oh!" which means "That One" (which aslo meant "those guys") pointing at the band onstage. Hence the name caught on and everyone was calling them Yan Oh eventually became YANO.. Dong Abay the lead singer told that story hehehe.
That song is about hypocrisy... people who appeared religious outside.. but their true characters shows whenever some situations come up.. He compare them to banal na aso (holy dog; saintly horse) santong kabayo..

It was inspired by the band’s vocalist, Dong Abay’s experience, while he was riding a jeep. Abay shared his story with guitarist Eric Gancio, who thought it would make for a really good record. When Dong arrived at the gate of our house, he told what happened to him in the jeepney. With an old woman in front of him, holding a rosary, closing his eyes, praying," Gancio said as he looked back. That experience became the first line of the song. "The Holy Dog is about hypocrites," he said. "We're not hitting anything here." "'The intention of the song is to arouse, not you, but me. I myself," "Why don't we move here to teachings about progress, happiness? Non-judgemental?” Gancio admitted that it wasn’t easy to write Banal na Aso.
