Hi. Thank you for sharing your progress of your henna plant. It was very helpful.
I live in Lake Isabella, California. I am getting ready to start some henna seeds. I plan on keeping them potted for years. But I was wondering what your coldest temperature is where you are?
We occasionally get as low as 17 degrees fahrenheit at night January through the first part of March. Some snow, but it melts off within a day.
April through October it is dry and hot ranging from 85 up to 118 degrees fahrenheit.
We have a little greenhouse space to over-winter and also start seeds early. It will probably be put in that space while potted. But do you think it would ever be able to be planted outside in the ground?

Hi, we live in zone 8a, i.e. our lowest temperature is 19F during winter to highest up to 112F in summer. Henna plants are heat loving tropical plants that will not tolerate cold. We keep them in the garage with grow lights and make sure the temperature won dip below 40F. We keep space heater to adjust the temperature indoors. With all these setups, plants will go dormant and shoot new leaves nearing spring. Just water every week or two depends on the moisture level during the dormant stage.
