what prevents the "bushing/spacer" from leaking transmission oil into the crankcase between it and the crankshaft when there is no seal? I'm having this problem with my bike.

Hunter Simmons there's a rubber seal with a tiny spring around it. It's called the crank seal.

edward hutchison the crankseal is around a steel bushing the bushing is around the shaft itself. The seal seals the outer diamerer of the bushing but nothing seals between the bushing and shaft.
