  • New RC tyre wheel balance from Sky RC, unboxed and tested. We could only demo this with a 1/10th wheel tyre from Schumacher but we do have the 1/8th adaptor imminently inbound so will show results with the bigger wheels for 1/8th asap! Amazing bit of kit, super simple to use! Links below.

    You can balance them cheap right on the car! If you have anything 2x4 put them on the front give it a spin the heavy side will be down add your clay to opposite. Clean spot w alcohol or clay will fly out not stick

      Absolutely. I used to do that when racing. Now this does things a little more accurately for my speed cars as they can hit over 200 MPH, the forces are intense with the type of RPM. Old scool is good scool though :)

      Lol. Balaced is balanced no mater how fast it spins.

      @PHILLIPfry2010 Balanced is balanced indeed but, it’s more important on our speed cars as our wheels already explode at high RPM, Hence, I feel they need to be perfect to give the best chance of surviving. The thing with this device is it tells you how much weight to put and exactly where to put it, if there is friction in the bearing on the gravity ballancer, it will miss fine adjustments meaning the wheel isn't actually as balanced as one thought. Anyways, flaws in both systems, but both work. I've already tried to trick this unit with adding weight to unbalance the wheel and it picked it up and corrected it. Again, there are many ways to do something and what anyone does depends on budget and practicality.

    Interesting. Gimmick? 1/8 Truggy tires work on this?

      Hi, I don't think this is a gimmick, pro racing has always involved balancing wheels n tyres, this is really designed more for 1/10, 1/8th on road cars, there are li.itations as to whT you can fit. Be ause we have so many different cars I have some truggy wheels n tyres and will see if they fit but as said, there are limitations as to what fits this unit.

    Would love to see if 1/8th buggy tires would fit.

      A wheel from somthing like a Typhon 6s would fit, because it’s for touring on road I haven’t tried it TBF.

      @@vortexrcuk I think the Buggy ones have a slightly bigger diameter around 110mm. Didnt found any videos if these would work. :(

      Buggy ones would fit, I’m away from the balancer for a few weeks but when I get back to it, I’ll buy some buggy wheels and try them on the machine, I did film fitting a few different brands of wheels n tyres to see how they were but didn’t include buggy rims. Watch this space :)

    You have to order the 17mm separately

    What is the max diameter it can handle?

    • @vortexrcuk
      @vortexrcuk  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As this is basically for touring/Onroad cars I personally won’t be putting anything more than around 100MM so in short, nothing bigger than hoons, GRP, Contacts etc etc.

    I mean…. You can do this with a manual balancer… i doubt this is any better… and those are like $10.. maybe $25 for a good name brand one…

    • @vortexrcuk
      @vortexrcuk  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, you can but this has worked out more accurate and less faff, as I said in the video, not for everyone. If on a budget, use gravity, if you have cash to flash, this is for you :).

  • @mikemoore5847

    The tire was so out of round that balance won't matter. Also, you have two different locations with weight that will essentially cancel each other out. Seems like a gimmick to me. Thank you for testing it on here so I don't waste the cash.

    • @vortexrcuk
      @vortexrcuk  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually, I slightly disagree, my speed run cars can reach over 200mph, with that kind of RPM this does make a huge difference, if you are just playing, yeah, I can see it’s not needed. Have a good one

    • @derekis1joedirt

      I love seeing tires with counter weights on them. I've found if you get a weight that is the weight of the difference between the two that are counter weighted, and place it in the middle of the distance between them. Then remove the 2 old ones and it'll balance, if it doesn't then something is wrong with the rim or tire.

      I thought the same but I deliberately unbalanced some wheels and it picked it up immediately and shows me how to rebalance them so in short, it definitely works. When I start skimming my foams I think this balancer will come into its own.

    aaaand it cost a fortune.

    • @vortexrcuk
      @vortexrcuk  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes but price is always relative…. For those hitting 150 plus and losing a car that costs k’s, it’s not a big expense, for someone who’s not racing and just playing, yeah, I can see it’s expensive, yes you can get an old scool balancer where you just use gravity, it does the same thing. All in all. For me, it’s worth the experiment.

      @@vortexrcuk you are right in that if its a high level racer cost might not be a limit, for us other hobbyist its the old way or dont be picky and skip the part of balancing wheels 😁
