This is the only tutorial you need to speed up your wordpress site. Thank you so much. I got my site from a low scoring 30 to 97. I had been trying other plug ins and nothing was working. I just had so much bloat, and this helped me skim off all the junk slowing down my site, in a way I was able to understand the process.
Finally you can see two of the most important things when we talk about speed. 1. Hosting, 2. Images. It is less relevant but you talk first about avoiding extra http request loading the correct assests with the help of Asset Cleanup plugin and also talk about avoiding extra fonts showing us how Oxygen helps with this task. These both things are not critical when we talk about speed but you can try to avoid them as you shown in the video. There are other important speed topics that you do not talk about in the video and these topics are caching and CDN. WPEngine is one of the most powerfull hostings for WordPress, so this is a critical point. There are also other well hosting companys out there, for instance FastComet. Images are also other big problem when we talk about speed. You shown us one way to solve it. Nice. Other way to solve the topic of the images is ShortPixel or WP Smusht and so on. Regarding the topic to avoiding http extra request just loading the right assest in each page there is also another well plugin for that called perfmatters.io/. Caching is always important, so using a cache plugin is always a benefit for the site. There is a free plugin called WP Fastest Cache that is very easy to setup and you do not need to be an expert. It very helpfull. And about CDN it helps but it is not as critical as hosting, images and caching. It is a little bit more difficult to setup but there are a lot of well videos and post about it out there where everybody can learn as in this video. Very nice video Louis. Good video. At 20:51, you don't have to look for the biggest image by eyeball. You can simply click the Size column header twice to sort from largest to smallest.
This, now this is a good page speed optimization video. Asset cleanup is a tool I didn't even know exist, and it's one AMAZING tool that helped me shave a lot of time off my front page loading times. This is an amazing video! Definitely one of the best optimization tutorials I've seen (and I've watched many). Improved my performance considerably more than caching and so call performance plugins I've used in the past. Had never heard of this plugin or GTMetrix before either. Like Oxygen, these are going to be part of my build for all new sites. Took my site from a 4.9s load time with 1.9m and 37 requests to a 1.4s load time with 605k and 19 requests! I then re-enabled Oxygen's CSS caching and got it down to an insane 0.8s load time!!!!! Cannot begin to fully convey how happy I am with this tutorial and the training/tutorials that Oxygen produces!

An advice: Since Page speed is a ranking factor, the only tool that should be used to measure site speed is 'Google Page Speed.' Great work by the way!

Thank you, it was very helpful. Sped up my site significantly. Followed every step, besides switching a hosting provider. And after all of that, I deactivated the "Asset" plug-in, and my achieved an extra second improvement. But whatever I do, I cannot get it less than 2.9 seconds loading time. Total page size is 1.46mb, most of which are elementor bloat and sumo-me pluggin.
@@hannanbaig7888 the website was luckily backed up so I reverted the website a day or two back then never used the plugin. Check with your hosting company, they may have backups, they can do it for you, if you dont know how. Always back up your site when messing with plugins..then test. There are tons of plugins that break your site. Better safe than sorry.

Many thanks for the video Louise. I did follow it step by step and managed to make some progress reducing the number of requests from 134 to 74, but to get it fully loaded it takes 7.9 long secs...
Very helpful. I don't have the technical know how to use Asset CleanUp to it's fullest, but I've gotten the page load time down from 2.1 sec to .6 sec. However, I still have 3 issues in the GTMetrix YSlow read-out to straighten out. I'm fairly certain I'll get below 1/2 sec once I get those figured out. Thanks a bunch Louis!
Thank you for a great video. The only problem now in April 2021 is that GTmetrix doesn't look the same as in this video so it is hard to find those areas to fix. Especially the information about what images to resize. The PageSpeed tab is replaced with a Summery tab.
I love how you don't go "etc, etc.." but you are going step by step for everything 3-4 times. Great work! As I turn on only "Unload on this page" and not "Unload site-wide (everywhere)", this means that I optimise only the specific page (homepage)?
If you choose "Unload on this page", it will only apply the rule for the page you're editing (homepage or whatever page you were on). "Unload site-wide (everywhere)" will apply the same rule on all the website. To make exceptions on specific pages, just turn on "Load it on this page (make exception)" ;-)
Incredible tutorial Louis! Thank you. With images I normally scale first, the optimise in Photoshop for web - the compression and size savings are incredible. Really effective especially on image heavy designs. I am so glad I found Oxygen 🤗 Such a fan.

This is a great tutorial. I liked the video, although there are a few things that could have been done better: 1) you use those 2 clock images which are huge, so of course, just by optimizing them, you'll reduce the size of the page by 10MB or so.. 2) you shouldn't always rely on page speed, especially if you run the test once. Test with a random page on gtmetrix 5 times and see the speed times you'll get, I'm almost sure the 1st time will be different (usually higher) than the following ones 3) if you scale the hero image to 1400, how will it look on 1920x1080 resolutions?

i followed your lead in crushing WP load times!!! ive also crushed the page sizes too and also my hosting bills. ive never created content so fast now that im using markdown. everything is WEBP optimised and JPG for those safari die hards. you can even reduce further the page size if you use an SVG!. i did have to swap to VuePress though
Hi, In most cases you really don't need another webhost. In most cases you can setup caching yourself with a plugin like W3 Total Cache or change PHP settings in your hosting account. Although if you have very cheap hosting, you most likely get what you pay for.

Image optimization is common sense, shifting php 5.6 no gzip to php 7.x with gzip is the major reason why the speed actually improved. The no buying plugins/tweaking server configurations is not true though, they would have to shift to wpengine which is quite expensive or upgrade the php and enable gzip themselves (which can be done on almost all hosts) I do like the clean wp asset plugin though cause not a lot of people would know about.
I agree WPEngine is fast yet expensive. I got my largest eCommerce client last year because they kept having issues with their WooCommerce webstore. twice their webstore was down for hours because WPEngine was having server issues. We pulled it from there and rebuilt it. I still like WPEngine and it did seem to be a bit faster from my tests than SiteGround and a couple others we use. but it definitely is more $ and with two sites going down our clients just blame us so uptime is crucial.

Amanda, try this plug-in ShortPixel Adaptive Image. It will save you a ton of time.
Try Optimole plugin it is the best
I also optimized from Photoshop under 100kb. Recently it shows errors for extra resolution issue.

2) you shouldn't always rely on page speed, especially if you run the test once. Test with a random page on gtmetrix 5 times and see the speed times you'll get, I'm almost sure the 1st time will be different (usually higher) than the following ones
3) if you scale the hero image to 1400, how will it look on 1920x1080 resolutions?

i followed your lead in crushing WP load times!!! ive also crushed the page sizes too and also my hosting bills. ive never created content so fast now that im using markdown. everything is WEBP optimised and JPG for those safari die hards. you can even reduce further the page size if you use an SVG!. i did have to swap to VuePress though

Hi, In most cases you really don't need another webhost. In most cases you can setup caching yourself with a plugin like W3 Total Cache or change PHP settings in your hosting account. Although if you have very cheap hosting, you most likely get what you pay for.

This is an awesome video. I have a brand new website and still, the page speed sucks! I can take these recommendations and try to apply them. I will update this thread with the results!
With these recommendations, I was able to bring the loading time from 3.6 sec to 1.5 sec. More tweaking to be done. But all thanks to this video!
Image optimization is common sense, shifting php 5.6 no gzip to php 7.x with gzip is the major reason why the speed actually improved. The no buying plugins/tweaking server configurations is not true though, they would have to shift to wpengine which is quite expensive or upgrade the php and enable gzip themselves (which can be done on almost all hosts)
I do like the clean wp asset plugin though cause not a lot of people would know about.
I agree WPEngine is fast yet expensive. I got my largest eCommerce client last year because they kept having issues with their WooCommerce webstore. twice their webstore was down for hours because WPEngine was having server issues. We pulled it from there and rebuilt it.
I still like WPEngine and it did seem to be a bit faster from my tests than SiteGround and a couple others we use. but it definitely is more $ and with two sites going down our clients just blame us
so uptime is crucial.
