- Lyrics:
Though you can give no more inspiring false security
I've got the reason to alter belief
Selfish paintings diamonds mutilate
You can't erase the way I'm unappreciated
But I can't sleep tonight
Embrace of the drink
Be hollow, swallow the pain
Splitting the fields
All the noise agitates
The stars have not aligned in your favor
Cross the line of obscenity
Ignoring the signs
The smoke in your eyes
Carelessly
Look to find a way, to love all the past promises, to keep you washed away.
Sever the ties
Broken by the black and white
Now fade away
The stars have not aligned in your favor
Cross the line of obscenity
Ignoring the signs
The smoke in your eyes
Carelessly
Look to find a way, to love all the past promises, to keep you washed away.
Laid in the ground
Were lost far beyond the clouds
Staring in the darks of hell, it's me.
Along the edge of belief
A heart always in the stars will never fade
Decay in the ground
Were lost far beyond the clouds
Pray in the dark for now
Prey on the sounds
And silence the darks around
Reach for a spark of doubt alive
Glad to see people from the future coming back to this 🔥
And people from the present experiencing for the first time
....what? Nobody's from the future. It's called old fans coming back lmao
This was the perfect song for Track 1 of the album; the intro absolutely melts your face off. Imagine not having heard of Bulb or Periphery and then hearing that.
I had the privilege of doing exactly that back in 2012.
@@joaquinwohlerferreyra9154 exactly. Sent me down an entirely new path.
Being 15 in 2010, riding a bicycle, listening to Periphery for the first time. Absolutely nuts... The harmonic intricacies of this album are just something else.
10 years on and this Album is still amazing.
One of the few albums I can just sit down and listen to in its entirety.
Spencer's vocal technique has changed quite a lot since then in a good way. His screams are now so solid, man. Amazing vocalist.
His singing and screams have dramatically improved. Sponz is a fucking beast. I think they are still great on this album.
The disagreeing chords and huge distortion is all part of this genre, it's meant to be really technical, so it's pretty damn genious. It takes reeeaaally precise timing. Personally, I love it! As for the screaming, cmon, it's metal XD
This song is so underrated, that would be so sick if they started playing this live
Wish granted lol
First Periphery song I ever heard, still one of the best
ASenseOfClarity i second that.. even zyglrox and buttersnips
@@J.PC.Designs ow my feelings also
As much as I LOVE P2 and their other material (P3 is fucking stellar)...there's just something very special about this album despite it being a Bulb reel with Spencer growling over it. It still hits really hard. Maybe it was the impact it had at the time that still lasts. Still one of my favorite albums of all time.
These guys are fulfilling that 'missing element' in today's music. All the rehashed chord progressions and patterns, rhythms, and conventional Rock memes are tossed out the window. Thank GOD for Meshuggah, and their offspring.
how strange the phrase "modern music" sounds in a comment that is only 4 years younger than me
@@becordcrazy to think about the fact that everything that is currently modern will one day be old and everything that is old was once modern. I know it’s a concept as simple as the passage of time but it still makes me think sometimes
@@gub4941yeah, it's weird knowing that djent is now as old as Pantera was when I started listening to music, or that metalcore/emo is as old as Metallica was at the time
@@hkleider oh my god
Perfect alarm song.
Sauce b0ss?
So true
Actually, it is my alarm lol
another great song that could also be used as an alarm clock
is meshuggah's future breed machine
@@Snekbae we don't talk about that
i remember first time hearing this back in the days and im still here with the same feelings !! still the best album for sure
One of the best Periphery songs ever. The beginning of this album - the one that got me into them years ago.
Still my favourite Periphery album
what about now
@@DrakeNut It's pretty close but Periphery III: Select Difficulty Level. I guess it has the sentiment of seeing the band live in London attached to it which makes the difference.
Came here for this album as I can't listen to it in Spotify anymore. Absolute fire!
It's back
pra mim tbm, na América do Sul por algum motivo eles tiraram esse álbum infelizmente
1:56 one of my favorite moments in music
Epico ! Me lleva muy atras en mi pasodo a momentos felices con mi familia. LO MILAGROSO DE LA MUSICA.
Its 2022 and i'm still here
Such a soothing song for a mind moving a million miles per hour.
so many great memories!🤟🎶🎶🎸I still love the what I called the terminator riff section of the song at4:50🎶🤟🎸that groove could make an old grandpa even headbang🤟🤟💀🎶🤟🎸fucking epic masterpiece of an album!🤟🎶🎶🤟solid gold!🎶🎶😎
This album hasn't aged a bit.
1:53 beautiful ❤❤
moments like these in their music is what i love the most
2:30 is such an awesome flip of how the chorus is normally sung, they are badass.
the best periphery album in my opinion by far
Whatcha think now
nah
Actually yeah. It is.
way better than their other ones unfortunately. they lost their way
@@izzomctorro actually still my personal fav.
Album of the decade.
goat band fr and this is prob their best song
The master of polyrhythm.
Re-listened to P1 yesterday and again today, i really fucking like this album the little synthy things are really cool
0:16 to 0:30 is all about djent. And that is one of the hardest parts of this song. It's not "just noise", it's building up, or PROGRESSING. You can HEAR the notes. It's just not a chord. So if it isn't a chord then it is just noise? Gee, sounds right to me...
1 of the best djent debuts of all time.
ALSO THE FIRST DJENT ALBUM
@@beenmicrophone5817 you forgot the gods themselves, Meshuggah. Meshuggah is the first djent band
@@lethaldosage4208 debatable, djent wouldn't exist without Meshuggah, but Meshuggah is not djent.
@@beenmicrophone5817 have you listened to meshuggah... at all? Also there are earlier djent albums such as Forging a Future Self by After the burial and Death of a Dead Day by SikTh in 2006, and Omnislash by Vildhjarta in 2009 to name a few.
Best periphery album by far
this is the best periphery album by a distance. in my djumble opinion
nah
@@taylorshred yes it is
Every time i hear this song i tear up. "along the edge of the belief"
Ciaran Butterly personally i enjoy the second time Spencer comes in with "the stars have not aligned" i feel the feels
Ciaran Butterly why does it make you cry?
So good.

1:21 is so underrated
They have so much good music it's hard to choose from..
Re-listening all their albums!!
3:30 this makes the song. Decay in the fcking ground
First ever Periphery song made.
Absoloute awesomeness.
I don't know if it was the first Periphery song ever MADE, but it's the first on any album, that's for sure.
Dan the first one i heard was habitual line stepper, cause i refused to listen to them for so long cause all my buddies were obsessed with them n the songs they showed me were to melodic but fuck was i wrong, these guys r amazing
GREAT
is it weird that this song seems calm to me?? It sends chills down my spine, ESPECIALLY the chorus
I feel the same way with Flatline off there third album
So much energy, so I would love to Djam with Periphery
3:17 I shiver everytime
dj djont djoont dj djont
I can't believe it's been 10 years since i first heard this.
Same and This whole album I need to play in it's entirety every time I do
I need this in spotify what happened with this album?
If any of you feel old, I was nine when this came out. I am now 22
why this isn't on spotify? I love this but I can't hear the entire album completely with youtube ads in the middle of each song

Feliz aniversario periphery querido. 8 years of the best music in the fucking planet.
2:15 is underrated part
Good very good!
why isnt this album on spotify?
creo que el problema es en sudamerica :(
3:20 and on is awesome.
i swear this band is my best friend at times more so than anyone i actually know.
I loved how you called periphery an Off-spring, it's like the Son of the Father....Epic.
I miss Periphery's sound when they sounded like this. It's almost a little sloppy, but still damn near perfect. That in my opinion helped give them a very unique sound. Spencer's original style of singing was more tolerable as well, and I'm not discrediting him for his efforts, he's a great singer but their new material with his newer style of singing is a bit girlish, almost as if he had a Paramore epiphany. (Pun there, Paramore, Epiphany, PERIPHERY! ;) ) That aside though, I love these guys dearly, and their music will live on forever to me.
I feel you 100% dude. This album was so..idk. RAW! I hope they go back to this type of material. I'm not a fan of there newer work
This was Chris Baretto though, not spencer.
+Jonny Glessner It is not.
+Jonny Glessner You're very wrong, lol. Obviously Spencer on this album.
You can get it with a Line 6 Pod HD lol they used it for the whole album and I’m pretty sure you can find their tone on the cloud
imagine if they were to redo this song in the Juggernaunt tones...
Shut up and take my money
I prefer the production on this album
P iv blood eagle aggression
P3 has my favorite production by far. So i vote p3
Idk man the cold and raw production on this album is 😘👌
2023-2024 still enjoying ☺
3:18 is beautiful
3:29. Do you even polyrhythm
I remember I showed this song to a fellow drummer friend and he just looked confused
Can you please explain to me what happens here? I'm very familiar wit polyrhythmsmsmsms but this one baffles me
@@DiggerbarnesG well.. same here. But what i understand is that the measure has 3 times. If we take the hi-hat as the reference, he's playing 2 times and the rim shot is played at 2,5 and then the third time on the hi-hat. And repeat. We're lost because of the rim shot at 2,5.. i think.. not sure
@@drumsno djent is a particular genre of music probably your friend listen to Avril Lavrigne ahahah
@@stephanelosardo3579 he was a punk drummer. Nothing to do with time changes or anything LOL
I'm here because of parker bordeaux. Lucha libre online sent me here.
I refused to like these guys for the longest time but damn they're sick.
Suda seriously same, pretty much been sleeping on them until last week or besides one or two songs.
I just heard of em last week... and literally haven't heard a bad song.... I cant even pick a favorite cuz or even top 10 songs to many are amazing
Illiteracy.
it was a love from the first sound... till the end of times
omg 1:53 clean part goddamn sick
How many times have I seen this comment? And I only see it on P1 vids. Fans have matured since then.
I love this part!
YEEEEEEESSSS I CAN FEEL IIIIITT!!,
OH MY GAD THAT ENDING
Yeah, I still remember losing my Perginitity. :')
I listen to this song so much that i can't sleep.....
If you know what i mean.
2018, still loving it
I am from the year 4038. This entire album is the galactic anthem in my time. Gonna get a Filet-O-Fish then I'm gonna fuck off back to 40004235 or whatever year I said I was from.
dat intro. heavy as fck. and that rhythm. love this band and i only just found out about them about a month ago.
❤💛❤💛
the harmony at 3:27 is so beautiful
3:30 I have yet to hear a sound more beautiful than this part.
That breakdown
Hey, @SumerianRecords, why this album is not available for streaming in South America? Please, release it..
Brutal begin
that breakdown....god damn
The video they got the original clip from was talking about Periphery. -_-
Why some albums are not in Spotify? Is it maybe because the country I'm from?
Matt Halpern is a monster
why this song was not exist on spotify
"Love that shit"
THE STARS HAVE NOT ALIGNED!
Wasn't Chris Baretto the vocalist for this album? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I came on to Monuments before I did periphery when Monuments released their latest album. I see all the comments like "Spencer sounded way better back then." but am I mistaken that he was not the vocalist for this album? Sounds an awful lot like Chris Baretto to me
+Jonny Glessner this is spencer
+Jonny Glessner 100% spencer. chris may have done guest vocals on racecar or something.
It’s Spencer’s voice but Chris wrote all the parts. Personally I wish Chris would have sung his own parts, you can tell spencer isn’t in his element here. And I love spencer when he’s singing in his own style but he sounds pained here.
Go to buy this album
+daniel barker
Lol, hey dude. I'm talking about the outro. "Along the edge of the belief"
is it just me or this album hard af because alex bois is in it
The stars still have not aligned
Periphery - Insomnia. Do you even polyrhythm ((correction polymeter but polyrhythm Sounds better))
***** this is one of my favorites. It has everything I like about progressive music like this. It starts out with a metric modulation to slow down the rhythm ( like in veil of Maya) with the first guitar. The other guitars and bass come in with the syncopation. And the drummer is playing some crazy shit to make the polyrhythm pop. And the vocalist did a good job not trying to find the easiest route and his layers are awesome. I don't know the time signatures cause its kinda preceptive. All I know is it sounds crazy!!!! You should check out the drummer Matt Halpern playing this he looks like an octopus.
***** in short its a good example cause its easier to head bang to😁
Yajirobe SenzuSlinger The drummer isn't playing that impressively man, he is good though!
Can you explain to me what a polymeter and polyrhythm are? I understand music theory but haven't gotten to those yet....I assume they are similar in their own right to polysignitures?
Henry Campanis a polyrhythm is two conflicting rhythms in the same meter. so the accents match up after every beat in the measure. (The drums in the begining of Down with the sickness by disturbed is a perfect example)
A polymeter is two conflicting time signatures or meters played at the same tempo. they normally start the measure on the same accent and then do their own thing until the syncing back up until the beginning of the measure. (The song that's what you get by paramore is a perfect example of a 3/4 vs. 4/4 polymeter)
Excuse my examples they are the easiest and the most straight toward examples I could think of
Parker Boudreaux brought me back here
if you listen the first time to this this is the most random breakdown ever but its sound f*ckin epic
0:15
Can't not headbang!
Thank god for the instrumental version
0:15, Stevie T anyone?
Maybe
Calalalalal

So does anyone have any idea what the lyrics between "carelessly" and "look to find a way" are?
I can't seem to find ANYTHING on them.
Dang I know this comment is 7 years old but I've had the same problem for ages. I recently found them. They're "Of the edge with me it will paint your child white"
