Bring your spigot to the hardware store and search for the rubber hose for the inside of the can. This way you’ll know it fits around the spigot and you can also have them cut it to size for you. But the O-ring clamp while you’re there

This was the least complicated build so far, thank you ! I think most anyone can do this with abit of elbow grease for the attachments!..and thanks for having your really cute kids be part of the test run too! Wonderful!
I found Gator_Overland here on YT had the simplest and tested build although I enjoy this one as well, but he has in his description an in-depth itemized list of materials with links (I just ordered everything and am putting it together now) plus he demonstrates the entire build along with extra add ons that I found helpful. Definitely use a 1/2” washing machine valve over the valve in this video. There’s no cutting involved

The way I did mine was I put a hose spout on the bottom of the Jerry can amps a valve steam on the top through the lid. You can pressurize it through the valve steam or use it as a gravity fed water tank/shower.
Does that mean you can pressurize it through the water Stream? I am searching for an Option to pressurize the watertank through the water stream
I was going to build a pvc version, bought everything (including that same spigot), and then had the bright idea to try it with a can instead. First search and your video popped up. Awesome work. Going to try this route and ditch the pvc. Just started following your Instagram too.

You can allso do this method with a 5 gallon bucket with a air tight lid. And have at least 4 gallon of pressurized water too use or a full 5 gallon if use gravity fed system

Curious how you store it when driving in a rear carrier situation. Hang the hose or create a holster for the shower head? Or just remove the lid all together and seal with a replacement?

Thanks man! And you can keep the lid on. Everything on it is shut. No need to replace lid with another. The hose and the shower head I store in the zipper compartment of my trasharoo. In fact I did a camp walk around video that I’ll be releasing tomorrow so you’ll see where I have everything. When we get to camp I go ahead and attach the hose to the spigot

I don't know exactly how much. I had to keep pressuring It for sure. Still works great but honestly I've been using the Waterport a lot more because it's less bulk
I'm going to use your setup, would like to know how it has held up, are there any changes you would make. I like relocating the Schrader valve so you can still use the vent hole to depressurize it.
It’s held up awesomely! I was almost tempted to buy a $150 waterport but then I saw someone with it and it wasn’t that different at all. Honestly it’s one of the best things I’ve made so far

Still works great. I did, however, switch to Waterport because I can mount it but I still use this from time to time
Great video. Couple of questions. Do you fill it by removing the hose and using the spigot? And then how do you repressurize on the road. Do you carry the compressor with you?
You refill by taking out the whole cap that the spigot is attached to. One big open mouth (scepter also sells a wrench made for that lid so you can tighten and loosen it easier). And yes I use an air compressor or bike pump on the road to pressurize
Some mods to this idea I would do is use drinking water hose instead of this radiator type hose and also use stainless clamp so you don't have rust problems. Otherwise this video is great. I know your using it to wash dishes so it doesn't really matter but I would build it drinking safe just because.
I was about to comment on the same thing. Using a drinking water hose usually means the hose is clear. That allows you to see if there is mold or dirt in the hose so you can clean it out. You wouldn't want to wash dishes with water that's coming through a moldy hose.
This was an amazing short build!! At 7lb did you test how long it kept spraying water??
It sprayed for awhile! I haven't done a formal test where I just let it run because I'm trying not to just waste water like that lol BUT I'll tell you that on my last trip I didn't have to pressure it again until after the 2nd time we washed dishes.

If you leave that type of air compressor attached, can't you set the PSI at X, and it will always keep it at that PSI and stop when it reaches it?
If you reduce the inside house 1/4 " or 3/8 " max it will have greater pump capacity by 2,3 times what you have right now..

love this setup. All the other ones with a drop-in 12v pump, the pumps always seem to get a large % of 1 star reviews due to poor quality.
How has this build held up for the last few years. Also, as you didn't use the nut on the back side of the spigot as it would have taken up all the space where the hose needed to attach to, has the spigot ever come loose?

Still works. I decided to not use pumps cuz then it's just another thing I need to charge up lol. In fact I have a waterport now and I find myself hand pumping it more than pressurizing it with my air compressor cuz it's just more convenient without worrying about other parts

You can. Grab a foot bike pump with a shrader valve and it’ll fit on this and you can pressurize it
Question if you mounted this on your roof rack would you mount it vertical or horizontal?
Actually considered that. I won't think it would matter much as the inside of this thing has a hose so it should reach the water regardless.
What size drill bit did you use for the schrader valve?
If I remember correctly, I THINK a 3/8" but I would start small and step up till it fits.

I'd still be worried about leaks what is really holding that spigot on beside a little forced threaded plastic and that clamp on the inside?
That's it but I haven't had any leaks. I mean if you look at a Waterport it's the same situation. Threaded plastic.
i'm curious if you run it to 15 psi how long would you be able to get decent pressure before it cuts off -- basically trying to figure out if i could put the hose to shower setting if it would provide enough pressure for a shower
Lol....I actually finally got it to 15. I kept trying to up the pressure little by little to see how far I can push it but believe me I stood pretty far away in case it blew lol. It didn't. But I probably won't push it any further than that.

Oh man, that I don't know. Not sure of it's structural integrity. I know that you can get a hand pump for it I think...I'm sure you can try but just start with lower PSI's first and monitor how it's bulging

Actually trying to do some research on that now. I probably won't be DIY'ing that and just getting a built in system already in place. I know there are some water heating units out there that I've seen with great reviews. Right now it's not THAT necessary as we live in Florida and it's always hot here but I know if we start venturing out in the fall I'll need to have that figured out

I follow the steps on this diy. Got everything to work but I have to leave the air compressor on while spraying it. When I disconnect the schrader vale from the air compressor I heard a hissing sound. Any suggestions why it loses psi?
Have you tried spraying the area with soapy water? It'll bubble up where you have the leak. Then it could either be that you didn't screw it in tight enough or didn't put enough tape or you have a defective schrader valve. Could be a bunch of things but only way to find out is to determine where the leak is coming from.
why didn't you use a barb hose end to put inside the tube and then screw onto the spigot?
Honestly it was my first time messing with this and just wanted to see if it’ll work. I’m probably going to rebuild again now that I know a bit more and have gotten more tips from the comments.
Nice! So could you dial your pump to 7 psi and run it continuously with pressure until the water runs out? and the pump cycles off if pressure gets too high?
Hmmm, never tried that! I need to have a module that shuts off the compressor when it reaches 7-10psi
@@fourbyforester yep and I’m trying to minimize gear not add to it. This is pretty minimal. Just a can and a hose. If you have an air compressor on the rig then that takes care of that or just bring a simple bike pump that won’t take up too much room

@@mstreich02 no I know. It turns off when you set it. But I don't keep the compressor on continuously. I fill it with air then take the canister wherever I am. I guess what I was trying to say was a regulator on the can itself so that when it reaches a certain point it'll release pressure so it doesn't burst in case my compressor is still pumping
Either way it's moot. I actually have an on board compressor with air tank now that I plug into a waterport. And I added a module to that I can shut the air flow to the water tank when it reaches a certain point then I just turn the lever again when air runs low.
A "bug sprayer" is already built for this. If you don't want to use the wand adapt it.

I considered that but then you have to deal with either batteries or getting power to the pump. With this system I can hand pump it with a bike pump

How much PSI have you found this setup is good for without blowing things up?
I max out at like 15. Obviously I won't know how much before it blows up because I haven't blown it up yet lol but I keep it around 12 so that it also doesn't bulge out too much
Is the internal hose you used for potable water?
No. This is just for washing dishes and such. Not for drinking. That being said I don't run this system anymore actually. I use a waterport now. Easier

I am! Still working great. I put it up to about 11 PSI but I'm sure I can push it a bit more. It's just that it starts to flex a ton after 10 psi and I don't want it bulging any more.
How do you see the quality after a year of use to this water can?

Is that a food grade hose ?
Not this one no. We used this for washing dishes and such not for drinking. You can modify yours to make it for potable water
Potentially dumb question:
After pressurizing, will it maintain that same amount of pressure until the water is empty? Or does it slowly decrease pressure, needing to add more pressure periodically?
No it will def lose pressure. That's why most people keep it hooked up to either their air compressor or a foot pump.

I have it filled to about 80% full of water

Great build, I made one myself. Only issue I had is that long term it’ll start to leak air where you you put on the cap. 😓 I’ll be in search for a better container with the same concept.

Mine is starting to do the same. I switched out to the waterport. This was getting to be a pain to store in the trunk

My friend uses those. Doesn't hold as much water. But I don't even use this anymore either. I use a waterport now

You can. It’s a schrader valve. I actually bought a small bike pump to attach to this in case I don’t want to bust out the air compressor.

I would just double check that all the hardwares are lead-free or toxic free if you are going to drink the water.

You can! We actually brought ours to camp. That's why I like this system.

dude.. just get a a 12v electric pump and small battery it's much better than this system...
Yup doing that for the bigger system I wanna put in the Jeep itself. This is more for portability without having to lug around a 12v system.
12v self priming is not that big at all. 4 crew to mount on the tank or you can do a simple wood box and mount it on the tank to make it look more neat looking. pushing 4.5 liter per min or you can get 2, 3 gallon per min. either using a small 12v battery that lasts you 30 hours+ continuous used or cigarette charger plug connector to power the pump. comparing you have to carry the pressurized pump. The pro is it's self priming "auto shut off when it is not in use. 2nd it pushes the water much more stronger. just a suggestion :) bayite 12V DC Fresh Water Pump with 2 Hose Clamps 12 Volt Diaphragm Pump Self Priming Sprayer Pump with Pressure Switch 4.5 L/Min 1.2 GPM 80 PSI Adjustable
@@kevinngnova yeah I feel you. As I said I know I’ll have a water pump system somewhere. For now this one works for the small jobs and I’ve been pumping it with either a compressor one time or a bike pump. At the end of the day, sprayed water is sprayed water no matter what you use to make that happen lol

What could improve your idea is to put a preset gauge on the inlet air valve. That will work like a pressure pump then. Or, if you want to do it off grid, and 1/8 of cost to build this one, use a bike pump of mattress foot pump.

1) yeah. You didn’t improve the idea...I made it so you can use any of those things but why bring a foot pump if I already have an air compressor in the Jeep

As far as your design. Common sense for most people that when you pressurise anything, it's going to expel whatever's contained!? Genius!?! What I simply did was explain how you can get the same result for less than half the price of your build. You could even blow into the container to pressurise it. Or just sit on the container without doing much else and STILL get the same result. But anyway.. you're amazing! (Symphony please .. ok. Roll on credits.. right that's a wrap!) 😂🤪🙄
