- The staff and customers at a County Kerry bar brought the house down in a emotional performance of The Killers’ "Mr. Brightside" to mark the passing of a friend. Brian O’Sullivan climbed the bar at Falvey’s Bar, Killorglin, on Thursday to lead the tribute to Ger Foley, who had died earlier in the week.
This video captures the incredible moment the whole bar erupts into song.

Your beyond welcome in my Ireland 😘
This is what funerals should be. They shouldn’t be sad, they should be a celebration in memory of the deceased.
Well said
This is what the Irish do. They're the best at celebrating the life of a loved one, at a funeral.
I'm Irish and every funeral I've went to I've met a new friend or relative. It's beautiful, like one door closes and many more open
Best friends ever.... don‘t cry just remember and celebrate👍🏻
Pick your tune and let the people sing. th-cam.com/video/kncKkz5C0AA/w-d-xo.html
7 years later and Ger Foley is still remembered
8 now! Forever Ger Foley!
Never knew the guy but damn it, LONG LIVE GER FOLEY!!
Coming from Germany, it amazes me how a bunch of middle-aged mates can sing along the lyrics of a pop song that was written for the generation of their children, while literally turning into this generation towards the end when they shed themselves of any notion of age and simply celebrate the raw beauty of life. You Irish are lucky.
Ich als Österreicher stimme dir zu, DACH Länder haben verlernt das Leben zu genießen und richtig zu feiern. So mein Empfinden.
its alternate rock
They knew the guy really liked that song and for his reasons embodied it somehow. Emotions, and maybe a good bit of alcohol, let them get it all out there for their departed friend.
Pop song, lol...
@@psibur re the alcohol, there is no maybe about it lol. The Irish can pack it away.
"Are ye f***ing ready?!!!" that's the eternal question.
The turning point of the video
He’s half Jonathan Davis half Brandon Flowers All IRISHMAN
Aye capitan
What a beautiful comment man! That got me a little
HAHAHAHAQ
if my funeral isn't like this, im not going.
🤣🤣🤣
Freaking funny

🤣🤣🤣🤣
hahaha
I knew him personally and he was the nicest man I've ever met
Apart from my papa he touched real good lol
Would of loved to be at that funeral....more like a party
Robbo That’s an Irish funeral for ya. I was at my neighbour s send off last Christmas Eve ... left our local (rural pub) at 3 in the morning. Jesus was I dying at Christmas dinner the next day. We gave him a great send off
E K I’m welsh (we are fellow celts) but our funerals here are totally depressing (just so sad, and at the bar no one is any mood to celebrate their life) we’ve allot to learn from the Irish !!!! What are birthday parties like ??? Whiskey in the jar!?!?
From watching this our world is a lesser place without him. Our world's loss, Heaven's gain.
People still watching this. This is how you live forever. Make me smile every time
I know I’m several years late to this but it was sent to me by a good friend. My mom (Irish) passed recently and us (her Irish heritage/American born) kids and family honored her with a celebration of her life much like this!! I respect every culture’s way of mourning but I’m refusing to die if my family doesn’t celebrate my life like this ☘️
I feel like all of us were born knowing mr brightside
Ain't that the truth.
Its the music of the tunnel
Right 😭 my dad raised me on this song. Just turned 20. Been bumping that shit since it first released.
Yup
Oddly enough .. If I saw this from heaven when I passed, I'd think I had won life
Beautiful sentiment
Fuckin eh!!
Its not odd its the truth
Won life; had beautiful friends and they gave you a perfect send off.
I got tears
Just because i want for everyone to have friends like this
Such an outpouring of humanity brought tears to my eyes who could ask for more people expressing their love and respect of a life lived
Year fir feck sake lads do ye have no homes to go to?
Yep
@@johnnyvinchenzo you'd be surprised.
I have no friends at all.
Honestly, this is the type of humanity that makes me keep going.
8 years later and this video still makes me cry and smile at same time. 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

Ger Foley: I never knew you, but through the eyes and voices of your friends, I can tell you were an incredible human being.
Rest in peace, pal.
He might’ve been a piece of shite… how can we know for sure?
I was in the west coast of Ireland and went to a wedding, a funeral, and a baptising, and it took my liver a month to recover. Best times ever... sláinte from New Zealand..
I looked into it and Ger Foley had cystic fibrosis and was apparently fought it to the end with the whole community behind him. Was an incredible man by the way his widow spoke about him. Deserved this tribute from his friend. RIP
Literally crying at this and im a 30 year old bloke... nothing but respect giving your friend the send off he would have loved. Respect man x
Me too, brother 🥲
As an american, Why am I going to work everyday, and paying bills, when really I could be crowd surfing shirtless in an Irish pub somewhere leading a bunch of irishmen in a sing a long of Mr. Brightside? Wtf am I doing with my life?! Rest in Peace to Ger Foley ...whoever you were, it is clear that you had great friends who care a lot about you. ❤ It would've been an honor to meet you. Perhaps some day in the afterlife. ❤
I was gonna say you'd have to make some Irish friends and get invited to a pub with them first, but then I remembered Irish people are literally the friendliest, warmest and most welcoming people I know
I hope you've moved to Ireland. You'd be welcome, they need people like you.
Wonderful comment
This is what a funeral should look like, honestly I'd do myself in if I could get my old man to show that kind of enthusiasm for me at any point.
WITH friends like this Ger Foley life long or short.....Must have been entertaining. Great send off
I didn't know Mr. Foley I'm just a Yankee from across the pond...but this rousing tribute for a lost friend really struck me...what a wonderful group of friends you are, he would be so happy with you....I'm now moved to tears....love your fellow man for you may never know their last day on this great Earth. His name- Ger Foley. Farmer in Ireland..
Thanks Colin, was you in the bar by any chance?
Being Irish, I can safely say funerals are some of the best days out. A sad yet joyous occasion everyrime
Yeah mate - I am just starting to understand that ;-)
I know a lad that listens every day at 12pm, and again at 6pm for the death notices on the radio, and when he don't hear of anyone he knows he says "Nare a good drink comin up" 😄
Yes , celebrate a life
Love Ireland
Always celebrate life, My younger brother passed away in Portugal- I was 45 he was 44 - My Ma said dont come home without your brother please, took 3 weeks. Hardest days of our families life, boarding a plane watching my Bro's coffin chucked on like cargo. Tough flight home but he was a mad & amazing hoor, service at the church when all was said & done his marvellous widow had the courage to play Queen - Dont Stop Me Now! - We all danced & sang & cried & GOD DAMN DID WE GIVE HIM A GOOD SEND OFF! Same. Except 3 years later ha. All worthy though
This is my local.
I used to go there a lot back when I could afford to go out. The owners live above and behind the bar, and if it's a slow night the wife would sometimes bring out food. She was like a mammy to the entire town.

My younger brother passed away in Portugal, aged 44, I was 45. Were born n bred Irish, my Ma told me to go & bring my brother home, so I did. ( toughest station of my life) took 3 long weeks & a lot of hardship. Another brother came with me, we had a session, we laughed, cried & bawled our eyes out, we celebrated everything our brother meant to us. We met his workmates & dear god they loved the Irish coz of my brother. At his funeral in our parish church, his wife had them play 'dont stop me now' In tune with his life, family & love. God bless you Ronan, love you a Chara xx

Be proud, if you have a friend like him
This reminds me of a quote (of which I cannot remember it’s origin): ‘Never let the pain of a loved one’s loss be greater than the sum of their memories.’ - this embodies that fully. Thank you for sharing and regards for your loss, but, even in death, they are making me smile. *That* is a legacy.

I studied abroad in England for a semester and visited Ireland in break. The short week I was there included some of the nicest people I've met. Miss it!

One of my all time favorite YT videos. Probably #1 on second thought.
This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen!
The Killers. The best American band that are actually British.
Nope, they're American. That made zero sense.
And its an irish pub
I was referring to how they’re beloved in the UK. So much so that you can almost say they were a British band. I know they’re American. They hail from Nevada.
The Killers were "adopted Brits" in the Glastonbury festival many years ago. This comment made perfect sense for those of us that are The Killer fans.
Btw, the Glastonbury festival is by far one of the most anticipated musical events in the UK. Like Coachella to Americans but waaaaaaaayyyyy fucking better.
Thank you TH-cam for recommending us something wholesome during these trying times

Never met Ger. But he must have been one hell of a legend. I hope I get sent out the same way.
Most of the older guys, who I suppose are his friends, are just singing. No camera bullshit. Just giving a tribute to their friend. And it is beautiful.
We all could only hope to have these friends and this send off.
When things open back up, everyone we've lost during this time, will be celebrated like this. ❤

Its funny how life is lived differently. Here i am a man in 30's and most of my friends dont go out anymore. Nevertheless TH-cam choose to show me that i am not wrong. Here i see a group of friends, most mid age and more, celebrating a dead lad while most of the people i know dont even celebrate life, sometimes myself included. What a fucking lesson. Thank you ❤
PS: sorry for the english. Im portuguese.
Ur English was pefect man no apologies needed

Nice comment, life is to be lived
So very true. What have you gained if all you ever did was chase after checks and money. Go out with the people you love and who truly care about you ❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
There's so many distractions within regular houses/apartments in early 21st century that discourage people from going out such as cable tv, Netflix, the web on the smartphone, etc. Also relatively expensive taxis in many places don't help since lockdowns online off license has become more common which drop alcohol at your door via courier. World now can be very atomizing but hopefully once Covid is over more people will appreciate proper social life.
A great song for a great man - these magical moments are to be treasured.
I listen to this to spark JOY... my own mother's wake was such a celebration... THIS is the way to do it!
