I got busted by a landowner and his gamekeeper out shooting they spotted us on nightvision.they were more than reasonable with us and even pointed out another spot we could camp out of their way.they even gave us a lift there in the back of their truck.and the spot they showed us was even better than where we originally picked.nice 1 guys 👍

I spent 6 months in woodland not too long ago - Female with a dog.
I vividly remember the first time l heard the blood curdling screams of a fox.😮
It sounded like a woman fighting for her life out there in the darkest hours.
Being in Norfolk.. l was getting *The Hills have eyes * vibey flashbacks.😂
Certainly the imagination can run out of sync with reality !
I had to have a couple of team talks with myself over that period. 😅
Being in the woods was one of the best times of my life .
I cannot settle in a house.

In the late 1969 early 1970s I was homeless for quite a time and had a sleeping bag and sometimes a small tent and slept in small local woodlands during different seasons. The experience then led me to hillwalking and wild camping for the following 50 years, something I still love but not as often as I'd like. Keep up the really great films. If I had with me a woman like that at the time I'd probably still be wild. RESPECT ❤

Great video, you do hear some strange noises in the woods at night. But a quick search on TH-cam will normally identify the culprit. It's surprising how such small critters can make such big noises. Barn owls screeching still make me jump though. 🤣 🤣

I was picking mushrooms walking across fields early one morning. I walked around a corner and there was a big circus tent, so I changed directions. All of a suddend I heard shots being fired over the hill and flash bags going off and we could see the smoke. We got seen walking across the field going back towards the footpath by the army. We just said a big good morning. The soldiers all said hello and nodded as we walked right past them towards the footpath. I later found out it was MOD land and they were training the Ukrainian army there.
    It's all about confidence.
Wild camping it's just a human going to sleep.
If you are asked to leave its an inconvenience but even if the police come it will probably be for a welfare check on you. If you accidentally trespass that's a civil matter so you have to leave, if the land owner puts hands on you that's a criminal offence over the civil trespass if you state youre leveling straight away. Know your rights as well it helps with those anxious conflicts.

Great video guys. You are spot on, i have noticed there has become an increase in them types of video's. Fortunate for me, i used to spend many nights in the woods of the UK. Doing things that i should not of been doing. So like you guys the seasons in the woods don't make me paranoid. There is like you state nothing really to worry about. As long as you don't attract people. I am now out in Germany. I had a bit of a worrying night on my last camp due to the Wild Boar, but i still stayed put. Even though i am fully aware you don't want to tangle with the Mothet Grunters. I also respect that it does take newbies a good few camps to get used to the sounds that they are not used to. Anyway like i say great vid and to anyone wanting to get out in the UK woodland. Just get out there and give it a whirl. It's amazing

I had a black bear in my camp at 3AM here in Ontario Canada last September. It was pitch black out so i had to use my flashlights, i could not see the bear at all. i'd hear the odd twig snap, the tarp moving on my bicycle woke me up. The bear kept swatting the ground loudly and circled my camp. I Had the bear spray out and a large knife, no way i was going to leave my camp, i was way too tired from bicycling all day before. it finally left after a couple of hours. I was surprised the air horn did nothing to scare it. I was out in the middle of nowhere on a old railways bed trail. I survived. I knew the the bear swatting the ground was a warning that i was too close. I also built a small fire. I did manage to get a bit more sleep. Great video by the way, your stories made me think of my last bicycle/camping tour:)

It’s really a new horror genre, and taken as such the vids are cleverly composed, and reflect deeper fears. I just subscribed to your channel today as I just discovered you two today! I love how down to earth and kind you are. I have already watched about 4 of your videos so far and keep enjoying them better the more I watch. I love going for walks in the woods. I am in my 60's and have had two odd experiences on my walks. One time I was walking in the woods at an area in the Great Blue Hills called Ponkapoag in the Boston area in the US and heard a loud Native American chant and drums sound. It was loud and in my face. I looked in the woods and saw no one. Gave me a bit of a freight. As far as I could see I was the only one in the area. I have been back several times to see if I experience it again and I have not. Another time I was out for an early morning walk at an sanuary in Sharon, Massachusetts walking in the rain and I saw what looked like a man in dark clothing walking towards me. I simply looked down at my watch to see if I should say good morning or good afternoon. I looked up and he was gone. There's no way he could have disappeared that quickly. Two paranormal experiences maybe. I will never know! All the best and I will keep watching and always liking!🙂🙋

I was a country copper in the early 90s and there was a programme on tv, I think called "Tracks" (I cant be certain) it had a segment on survival by the very excellent Ray Mears, which involved a lot of "wood craft" chopping small trees etc, there was no mention that you cant just do this on anyones land without permission,. This seemed to catch on with weekend hobbyists and this caused us a big nightmare with private landowners complaining about damage and huge amount of mess left behind, we also dealt with quite a lot of injuries, one guy got an arrow in the eye! happy days!

I remember as kid over 50 years ago cycling to and camping overnight in that spot in Blackheath, we kids knew it as "Cowboy land". It's been thirty years since I camped in woodlands but I am getting my kit ready to embark again soon. I totally agree with you about these click bait titles. I always considered myself as the the most dangerous thing in the woods and would out nutter any nutter I met ,although I never met any. Only farmer I ever heard of shooting someone was that farmer (in the fens I think) who after being repeatedly burgled finally snapped and shot two burglars leaving his house after burgling him yet again, he killed one of them and he got a long sentence for manslaughter. Although the law was changed after this incident so that it was no longer a crime to defend your home it doesn't apply to landowners shooting people camping, wild or otherwise on their land. The land may on paper belong to only a few privileged few individuals and organisations like the national trust (run by liberals who suprisingly act like Nazis) but the land belongs to the people, and providing no damage is caused then what's the problem. If that posh prick who owns part of Dartmoor and is appealing to the supreme court to stop people camping on his land were to win then you can expect large scale trespass walks and camps in protest to get the laws changed as they did back in the early 20th century.

    • @loghoppers

Exactly! Too damn true and no one really seems to rise up anymore. We're getting it in every 'whole' 😉, but let's face it, the more the poor are restricted... how long is it before they rise? The elites would be out numbered exponentially. 🧐🤔 HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼

Camped in woods in Kent about 25 years back and got woken up in the early hours by footsteps...looked out of the tent and there were five or six people in black hooded cloaks walking past in a line. I wished them a good night, they returned the pleasantry and I never saw them again.
The scariest thing that ever happened to me when camping was an enormous, groundshaking crash. When it got light, I discovered a huge tree had fallen and missed my tent by less than a metre.

I chose to camp in the mountains of Wales since September when I fled my social housing flat in south London to escape daily bullying and terrorism by upstairs neighbor and it's thug gangster boyfriend...... too dangerous and too depressing to stay in London so I bought a tent and camping gear and life got a lot better since I have been in the tent...... I am on disability benefits for autism, PTSD,, arthritis, Hearing loss, 24/7 screaming tinnitus like a loud fire alarm in your head , constantly.......... in London I was very weak from max 4 hours sleep per night for a year, sometimes 2 hours sleep then woken by the constant stomping, the evil baboon upstairs never went out and it terrorized me all day, every day ..... I could never relax at home ever, I lived next to Elmstead Wood AKA 'dogsh!t wood' so I would go there to relax and recharge...... my breathing got so shallow and I was having panic attacks and heart palpitstions ...... I knew I had to do something to save my life so I spent £900 on a van man to move my stuff from London to Wales ..... first night on the tent was the best sleep in over a year...... . since I slept in the tent every night my breathing is a lot better....... the worst thing is my arthritic legs being bent up all the time in the tent when it rains........ very hard to get a place to rent around here and I fear if I go to a big town or city again I will get sick and weak again......... now I know I can do it I will always choose the tent over an exploitative rental situation which most are ........ You will only ever see the dross on youtube searches re. strangeness. They deliberately keep the real deal channels off-search, in my experience. So I totally get how it's easy to debunk what most people see. I have deep dived the subject for some time now and actually have my own little woodland in Poland, as well as spending a lot of time in a much bigger forest close by. I know the forest is still a frontier of consciousness. I loathe the cashing in channels with their loopy nonsense, because they chaff out very real experiences that people have had.

  • @ianrichardson3968
    @ianrichardson3968 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I was once camping so I'm asleep in me tent. It must have been around 2 in the morning when I was suddenly awakened from my peaceful slumber by a noise.
This was a snorting growly noise. Suddenly my tent is dragged off with me inside it!
So I'm dragged in me tent off into the forest by something very very big.
Eventually it stops and this thing rips open the tent with huge claws and I find myself staring into the eyes of a huge bipedal creature.
It ended badly when the creature and his mate ate me.
I have never been back there since..
Anyways, I've done a fair bit of camping with me mates over the years and a hell of a lot of nights spent night fishing. Often on my own. To begin with back in the day we got scared when a fox vocalised. None of us had ever hear this before and it was scary..at night you here sounds you don't hear during the day, nocturnal animals coming out of their dens etc. Owls hooting an so on. Even a wind can move a branch which rubs against the tree trunk an makes an unusual sound.
I was once in a wood and all I could hear was what sounded like a swarm of wasps. there was no wind. I headed in the direction I thought this sound was coming from but then it seemed to be coming from a different direction. I didn't find out what the cause of this was. Couldn't figure it out.
A woodland or forest, it gets dark, we have bugger all night vision although mines pretty good. We hear a noise. And every lost in the woods horror film we ever watched runs through our heads.
Humans are not nocturnal animals and unless you live a more natural life in the wild dark woods are scary places. Which generally keeps most people away at night.
Modern Humans have totally lost touch with their natural environment an for many the though of camping even on an official campsite is not something they want to even consider. Out in the wilder places they'd rather grind glass into their eyeballs.
As for this subject there's bush crafting, most of these have permission to be on private land and can use trees that need to be cut down and build their bush craft shelters.
There are some who o not have the permission, a bit like metal detectorists, some do some don't.
Then there's "wild camping" someone like Fell Wanderer might do. Then there's real wild camping like these guys do.
The first two are more a hobby than anything else whereas for these guys it's a way of life. A life more people should at least experience to some degree.

@@GreetingsFromBlackwoodFarm Thanks for the reply. I was recalling, after I posted the comment of an incident probably going back some 30 or more years.
I was night fishing a drain near where I lived at the time and all was well until it wasn't. I'm sat on me chair down the bank and I suddenly get the feeling something is watching me from the top of the bank, so I turn to look and see nothing. A minute or so later same thing, this went on 2 or 3 more times so I go up the bank to look around. Nothing there. Both sides of the drain is a field. I go back down to my chair and it happens again so I put the brolly up. This didn't help so I took it down again. Back up the bank go I and walk both directions checking the bushes etc..nothing.
I begin to get a bit spooked. It gets to the point I grab my gear and up the bank I go, I head for the field edge, cross the road into the fields opposite. Then I pack my gear away and hightail it home.
This was the first time I ever got spooked like that. As this ..feeling went on it became worse and worse, like eyeballs drilling into the back of my neck. Saw nothing and heard nothing either. I'd fished this drain many times either with a mate or two or on my own with no issues. I didn't go back to that stretch of the drain for best part of a year until one afternoon I took the dog for a walk and decided to walk round the road and into the field which is opposite the side of the drain I'd been on. Prince heads off across the field to the old bridge that's been there for decades, there's no road or track there now and the fields were just grass. So I get to the bridge and I'm stood looking over the edge into the drain, see if I can spot any fish. Prince is off sniffing about as usual.
Suddenly I get the feeling someone is right behind me, I turn and nothing, no one there. This really felt as if someone was literally stood within an inch of me.
Thing is the drain in question was Barmston Drain which runs from Hull and eventually empties into the river Hull.
Now you might know Barmston Drain is famous, or infamous for what's known as the beast of Barmston drain. or more usually Old Stinker.
This is supposed to be a kind of wolf man creature that stalks the drain, this story goes back a long way, and he is supposed to smell very bad, hence old stinker.
There are people who have reported sighting old stinker, one couple walking their dog along Beverley beck say they saw it with a full grown Alsatian dog in it's jaws. And it jumped a 6 foot fence as well. They said.
Now, at the time of my incident/s I'd never heard of this beast of barmy drain. And quite frankly I do not believe this thing exists either.
But that night something spooked the hell outa me. I've been fishing since I was around 5 years old when my Dad started taking me with him, I've night fished lakes, rivers and ponds so many times I've lost count. Often staying for 3 or 4 nights..or more. I get to fish and camp at the same time.
I'm not easily spooked and I am not worried about the dark either.
I am NOT suggesting it was old stinker because that would be ridiculous. I wasn't thinking about any horror films or anything like that either.
Goes to show sometimes we can experience something we have no explanation for. Something we wouldn't normally think would happen.
As I say this is something I experienced, I'm not making it up.
Other than these two incidents I have only ever had another one when I was around 16 or 17. I will recount this one another time.

You might be lucky asking if you can camp for one night the the problem farmers and land oners face is if they say sure stay for two days once you're on the land it can be hard to evict someone and hassle a busy farmer doesn’t need. You're more likely to have luck if you are obviously on the move, i.e. on a bike tour or doing a route.

    • @loghoppers
      @loghoppers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Same way you do. We all poop the same and all wash ourselves hopefully lol 😆
But on a more serious note, 100meters away from water or a path and tent... we dig a hole.and the rest is history. As far as washing... there's streams, brooks, waterfalls, baby wipes, soap and warm water, toothpaste, you know... the 'normal' stuff lol.
Stick around and have a look at our Forest Laundrette vid too... have a mooch of them all. Definitely more inspiring food for thought. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼

I always say, they have to find you to mess with you. Even if they do find you, most wouldn't interact with you and will just walk on. after dark, most dog walkers stick to the paths and the yobs are too lazy to walk far from their own comforts.

People ask me am i not scared to be there all alone at night. I allways tell people i feel a lot safer there. It's the cities you have to worry about. That's where the criminals and crazy ppl are. The forest is way safer. Especially at night because there is noone there and it's so quiet you can hear someone approach long before they get close and you can see their flashlights etc. Common sense is enough to stay safe.

Genuine question, how do you access medical care? What happens if you need a GP etc? I’d love to give this a go in some way even for a short time but I have so many hospital appointments you have to have an address to give them

    • @loghoppers
      @loghoppers  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Not necessarily as we've been dubbed by them (NHS) as the forest Nomads. It cane about when Mod broke his hip last year.... the only hiccup there was they wouldn't release him, unless we had a friend say that he would be released to our friends home for at least a month. We did it for 3 weeks, what a great friend to have. We've a video on our friend who helped (our unlikely friendship) But it's not as hard as you may think, so long as you've got good friends, a care of is easy to obtain. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼

@@loghoppers so reading between the lines, even if you didn't have someone to let you stay for a bit and recover, they would just not release you or put you in emergency accommodation while you recover. Do you need an address now to register with a GP? Used to be you could sign on NFA and they would let you use the job centre, but I think Im going back over 30 yrs 😂 Happy Christmas guys, loving the videos

Hedges are not safe, you can still be shot through them, a school friend was on her horse in the next field, shooters the other side, she was shot in the back through the hedge.

I camped on the trampoline in the garden. Put a tent in the trampoline and zipped it up. Woke up early morning by a fox sniffing my arse from underneath the trampoline. Then it jumped up circled the trampoline. That was enough for me.😂 I think a fox was near before that one because a horrid smell appeared and went.

I always wild camp and so far have never been moved on, nor had any issues. Scottland is even better than UK as you're allowed to wild camp there as long as you're responsible. I usually camp in normal woodland that has footpaths, just camp as far from the path as I can.

have tou ever dug a hole into the ground then to the side to connect with the other hole and make it a ground stove so your fire is under the ground when theres no flame while cooking its under the earth you feed the sticks in feom the side to feed the fire i love wild camping but havent sone it in a long time we done inverness at the river ness and we had a scary encounter with someone going about with a torch in the bushes where we were but we just ignored them and they went away i dont know if it was someone illegaly fishing or someone teying to find us but we never got moved we never made a noise we just kept quiet till they went away
we camped in fields and a campsite in thurso campsite there was a patch and some idiot threw a bottle at our tent very disreapectful it was just idiots walking buy havin a piss up but nothing major we will go back to do it again sometime loved it it was creepy at time not knowing whats out there atalking you or just passing through like an animal like deer or fox or badger or what so u just have to let your mind be free to think all thoae things come out at night and sleep during the day
