    Now this is high level surf coaching that’s rarely seen on yt. Just like the video coaching we used to get on the ski team. Showing each step with the lines and angles really drives the concepts home. Also great how you compare with your own technique. What tool are you using to draw the lines on video?

    Thank you for putting this together. It's incredibly informative. I admire your self-esteem and self-belief, in comparing your performance to your model performance. The video would have been great with just your surfing, but the inclusion of your ongoing work and the comparison to the model performance takes it to the next level! It's a refreshing change. Please upload some videos on backhand, bottom turns, carving, and snaps? Wishing you all the best for your upcoming season.

    This is the best surfing technique breakdown I've seen on YT! So clear and thorough and nice to hear what things you are looking to improve on your own turns. One thing between yours and Ethans carve is his legs staying in a relaxed flexion of knees through the top turn and yours had a straighter front leg pushing through the bent back knee for the turn. How does this affect the the type of turn as a result? As a beginner/intermediate which technique is better to aim to do for now?

    • @Lakey_Peterson
      @Lakey_Peterson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Epic, glad you enjoyed! I would always try and have it slightly flexed for sure. Almost acts as a shock absorber if there’s any bumps. So Ethan’s technique is for sure what you should aim for. Breaking it into individual steps at a time also is prob easiest

    World class video! Thank you so much! An important point on Ethans technique too is the flow between maneuvers due to that at the end point, he moves forward the back foot to start pumping to prepare next bottom. He does it in one movement, just after he finishes the back foot kick at the point 3 using the inertia of the forward momentum

  • @audioeins

    ❤ i like the analysis. one interesting thing i find with your arms, is that sometimes, especially in horizontal snaps or taking the lip into a driving down the line section, your arms are at a nice 60 degree or so angle (or holding the ball as you say), with your hand fanning up at about shoulder height, but sometimes, especially when you turn and pivot an a dime for fast cutbacks, your arm is sometimes or often, raised up close to what you demonstrated here. the part i find interesting is that while i have a similar ideal intended style of the former arm position, your latter arm position is more like a dancer or ballerina, almost as if your arm raised somehow becomes that super tight radius pivot point, perhaps accounting for such fast and sharp tight turns. meanwhile, in such cases, your front arm turn and twists with forward momentum in the direction as you drive into and out of your turn. ive never seen anyone do this, but you, and in real time motion, especially in critical pocket areas of the wave, its an elegant and stylish (and perhaps quite functional) aspect of your trademark turns. :)

    i feel like when i switch to my epoxy for the summer days i cant get low & dig my rail as much on my bottom turns because it floats more & i feel like i'll slide out. if that a general epoxy issue or do i need to not rely on my fins as much?

  • @graham5435
    @graham5435 ปีที่แล้ว

    Super helpful! When you’re working on improving, do you only focus on one component of the turn, or do work on all aspects of the turn? I guess my problem is I just get amped on the wave and want to fix all aspects all at once!

    • @Lakey_Peterson
      @Lakey_Peterson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve found that 1 aspect for each surf works best. So for the carve I would make sure I’m nailing bottom turns first before moving into the next step 😊👍

    • @Lakey_Peterson

      The back foot doesn’t really change position. It’s more your weight transition into your back foot at the 3/4 part of the wave. Hope that makes sense 👍

    Major failure in this tutorial. Sorry. Another useless video, here is why : yes in bottom turn the rear arm must touch the water. But you missed two key points for every intermidiate surfer, I needed those advices and lost years, litteraly years doing the bad mouvement : keep the elbow of your front arm always , always far from your front knee, never ever cross them. And put always your back foot, far far on the pad, as far as possible , don't even think about turns without this key points...and you video, as many videos on TH-cam missed this huge important points . Thanks to surfpro technics channel. Cheers
