My son lives on Treasure Island with his wife and we have lived on Redington Shores for the last four years. I guess I’m trying to see the things to be thankful for. Both islands look so much better than I thought they would. In my mind I am comparing it to the devastation I saw on the Isle of Palms in South Carolina after Hugo. That was my home the year before it hit there and when I went back six months later, it was unrecognizable. So glad these Islands have fared better! I love this area and can’t wait to get back after repairs are done. You never know how much you love being part of a community until you’re forced to leave. ❤
I think it could have been a lot worse, even though there is still a lot of damage. It wasn’t a storm that knocked buildings down per se, more of a lot of flooding from storm surge so just a lot of interior furniture and items that were damaged. Still tough to deal with either way.
Many thanks for this tour of the aftermath. As a former resident of Pinellas County for 12 years, 6.5 were in IRB, I traveled Gulf Boulevard daily. My late husband worked at Smuggler's gulf course in Indian Shores just north of where this footage was shot. Just heartbreaking to see all of this damage. When I moved to that area in 2004 people asked me why that area? I said because no hurricanes! That same year, we dodged a direct hit of 3 hurricanes. In 2016, we moved to Cocoa Beach area and now have had a share of them here also. It is a part of the area this weather. But Milton was a very bad boy with all the tornado activity. Over 100+ tornado warnings were had during that storm. I will not leave to reside somewhere else unless it is USVI. 🤗 ❤
I think a lot of people think Tampa gets hit by hurricanes all the time, but no direct hit for 100 years! Not that we don’t get the effects of other storms. Helene wasn’t even close to a direct hit yet cause so much damage. I think if you live anywhere in Florida, you just have to expect that things like this may happen. Thanks for watching!! 😁
Worked at Tampa VA and Bay Pines VA. Spent many years out on those beautiful beaches and people. They will come back stronger than ever!! Blessings to all my Florida friends.
My happy place. As a teen, I lived on Treasure Island and have so many memories of good times in John's Pass. Fishing from the Friendly Fisherman and walking the board too many times to count. This breaks my heart. Sunset Bch is unrecoverable. I 🙏 for all trying to recover. Paradise - until Mother Nature has other plans. 😢 💔 ⛱️ TY for the video.
I have been vacationing at Treasure Island on and off since I was a child and I finally got my wife and son hooked back in 2021 and we have been staying at Sea Jay every April and this honestly breaks my heart! Last year we had my In-laws with and they did their in-law things, but I love them
My dear Madeira Beach home has taken on many years of strange slants of unattrative develpoments. How her simple ease has changed from just the quiet Barrier island's beauty. She never had interest to keep up with the trends. My first memorial Christmas tree. My parents married at Church By the Sea. As a little girl, I could not understand people going to the Church, when the Sea was across the street. The bike rides and a rich little girl idea of ice cream cone. The local old Legion Beach and cars parked on its sandy grounds. The first John Pass with the Shrimp Boat landing and the shrimp bins. Bussed to Treasure Isl for school. The Silver Diner across Piggly Wiggly. And the Bath Club on Redington: swim lessons from George Simon 'The Turtle.' My first job on Treasure Isl at Happy Dolphin Inn. No AC. But the sounds get inside the body memory. I have had a heart ache and deep grief. Thank you for your video.
A lot has changed there in just the 9 years that I have been here, so I can only imagine over a lifetime all the changes that have come in all of these years. Thanks for sharing your memories of the area!! It may not be the same as it was years ago, but it will be back up and thriving soon!!
Thank You Thank You ! I looked for an hour, could not find our favorite vacation place . I left for the kitchen, came back, and this was playing on the playlist. 4:45 is where I plan to go again
Very familiar with the area and this drive through was an eye opener. Junk on Treasure and sand on Sunset. Impressive and sad. When you're ready, we'll be back.
I live here. Cleaned up very quick. Didn’t get a hard hit like Ft. Meyers with Ian. The people will have Maderia & Treasure island back in no time! 👍❤️
I'm searching for someone that could give me the true conditions of Madeira Beach. We have a trip planned to stay across from Johns Pass 11-17 for a week. Trip was planned last year and have to make a decision if I should cancel. The place we're staying can't give us any info except what they may post on Facebook. If you could give me info on conditions of beach, Johns Pass it would be so helpful! Thanks 😊
@@karenmiller128 My aunt and uncle have a timeshare at the Voyager over in Treasure Island - they said they'd be closed for4 weeks. It is a tuff thing to see I was just helping the people whom live in Maderia Beach that were impacted. HENCE fair warning them to leave again for Milton. So many people lost everything thank you for sharing this video ❤

@@88mphadventures I'm sure you probably noticed a big difference already since you did the walk about at Johns Pass and ROC park after Helene. Such great effort from the community working together! (It would be great if you could do another walk about at JP in a week or so John)
Thanks for the post. Have had a time share on Treasure Island for almost 15 years. The management set pictures after Helene but nothing since. Caught a glimpse about 5 minutes into your video.
It is a great area. The beach access at Archibald has a ton of sand in the parking lot now though. I think they put it there and then transport it wherever they decided to take the sand. Hopefully it will be back up soon! 😁
So glad I came down there last year and got to see Anna Maria Island & Treasure Island for the last time. It'll be years before that comes back. Not worth it.... anybody that buys a home in Florida is crazy
Thank you for this. I could see the sign for Sand Pebble both times as you passed it, but because it sits further back, was unable to see how the building faired. My family left Treasure Island on the Saturday before Helene hit to fly home (we had been there for a week), but had friends staying 2 weeks who got evacuated, both locals and from near where we live who all had to make their ways home safely. As one of my favourite places on earth, its hard to see the area with so much sand and trash to clean up. Hopefully locals will continue working together to clean up the islands. Best wishes and safety to all affected.
I think people have been really good with helping each other out with cleanup and just helping each other in general. It will take a lot of cleanup and time, but eventually it will be back to normal. Thanks for watching!!
I have not do any for the actual beach section, other than the one I did showing Treasure Island after Helene. A lot of the parking lots for the beach have TONS of sand piled up on them. I think they are using them to clear sand from roads as a staging ground before they send it wherever it gets sent. I will try and film some beaches when I get the chance.
Evacuated from Redington Shores before Helene and went back to retrieve what I could. The beaches were covered with debris and did not smell good. That old rotting seaweed smell! The water was really tainted. Some erosion and all of the sand dunes near the complex I lived in were gone. Just flat sand all the way up to the exposed small seawall along the total beach I could see. I’ve had to evacuate to the other side of the state where thankfully I can live with my son. Watching this video really made me homesick. Maybe we’ll go back there to rent while we wait for repairs. It really looks much better than I thought it would. Most of the debris being gone was so helpful! Thanks for posting the video. I guess watching this is the next best thing to being there. I feel so isolated from where I love! 😪
This video only shows a small proportion of the massive destruction of 2 consecutive ground zero hurricanes to have hit the City of Treasure Island within 1 month. Hundreds of homes are destroyed and will be demolished. The small city will never be the same and many of the businesses will not reopen. Unfortunately, the Mayor of Treasure Island lacked the backbone to lead the recovery effort and quickly resigned. Hopefully, somehow a real leader will emerge and take charge of this recovery effort!
