We could not speak about a North or South Korea around this time. One of the worst periods, if not the worst for some, was about to begin. The Koreans were really one nation back then. And this is exactly one aspects that brings the 2 different/divided Korean people together. On both sides of the border, 안중근 (An Jung Geun) is a national hero. Of course it's very understandable from the Korean perspective that we don't mourn Ito Hirobumi in the slightest way. The man responsible for killing Empress Myongsong, dethroning King Kojong, massacre of Koreans, usurping authority of the Korean government, claiming the relations were peaceful while they were actually hostile, plundering the country and many more things. This man did terrible things to Korea and therefore deserved to die.
The narrative of Ito Hirobumi would be different if you wanna write about Meiji Japan's rapid modernization, but that's another topic.
I have a deep heart for Korea and the people and I can't say more than sharing the same thoughts as most Koreans do.

Everything about the colonisation of Korea and King Kojong is true but Ito had nothing to do with the assassination of Queen Min. It was a complot made by Miura Goro the japanese minister to Korea at that time (unfortunately the very popular Inoue Kaoru left his position. If he remained Min would probably have survived but that would probably have ended in Korea becoming a russian puppet not a japanese one).

@Northern Lad he was basically killed because of his role in preparing for the colonisation of korea. The treaties he made with the korean empire slowly limited korean empires role as an independent state in the international relations as well as making the lives of ordinary korean people hard as many koreans were abused with the building ofrailroads for japanese interests.

@@motro1301 To be honest as much as i hate for the Korea colonization by Japan killing Ito hirobumi will not solve anything or even prevented the Japanese colonization efforts worst it only increased and lead to more underside consequence. If ito death truly resolve the matter of colonization then i welcome. Like killing The Archduke of Austria will definitely let the Serb in Bosnia rejoin Serbia.

Interesting point. The firearm used by Ahn was a Belgium made pistol purchased in Shanghai. Interestingly, it was the same make and model used to assassinate Arch Duke Ferdinand that started WWI. I believe Ahn was a Catholic and his father was a preacher. So many unanswered questions. What we know today is that Korea is still divided the North run by an isolationist militaristic despot and the South a consumer driven state still occupied by western soldiers. Ahn might have been used disrupt Japan’s growing presence on East Asia.

Assasination of Ito Hirobumi did not help the independence of Korea. The result was quite opposite to what An Jung Gun wished. Imperial Japan tighted her control over Korea, and finally Korea was annected by Imperial Japan. In this movie, An Jung Gun killed not only Ito but other people. With any reasons, assassination is not justifiable, and it is nothing more than terrorism.

@@새사람-l8u Assasination of Ito Hirobumi did not help the independence of Korea.

@@gggg33333ee Two wrongs do not make a right. Probably Korean people were discriminated by Japanese, but it was not unusual between suzerain nations and their colonies. Japanese public bath owner delivered a blow to a wealthy Korean in front of his son though he paid money, but he was not charged. This was an unfair violence for Korean father and son, but it could not justify An Jung Gun’s assassination. Even if Japanese business people neglected South Koreans after the Russo-Japanese war, terrorism could not be justified.
