Honestly, this is what I keep coming back to as well. Someone on reddit pointed out that the try guys had 20 staff at the time of the ned incident and they put out double the content watcher does. I love watcher's content and want them to be successful, but the whole incident has me seriously concerned for the financial state of the company. I also noticed when watching other people discuss this that a ton of people not only didn't know they had a patreon (including myself despite being a pretty regular viewer!), but didn't know they had made a channel at all. This strongly suggests that they aren't actually getting as much out of the youtube viewership/patreon sponsor model as they actually could before pursuing this much riskier option. I don't want to be callous about people's jobs, but it really seems like they're trying to spend themselves out of a hole.
We've been conditioned so hard by YTers doing awful things and responding in an even more awful way that a tone deaf announcement followed up with a normal, everyday, PR approved response is refreshing... The confirmation that eventually new episodes of GF would come to their YT channel is really all I wanted but it's nice their team did a perfectly acceptable job addressing issues. At least there wasn't a ukulele anywhere in site.
I think they revealed their hand in terms of seeing their audience as a cash cow to milk dry for money...and from the comments on the video, people seem almost desperate to forgive them which is honestly sad to see
The first thing to do when a company is struggling is 'trim the fat' and focus on the core of what made you a success in the first place. Not take on lots more 'fat' that hasn't been market researched, and pay for it off the backs of fans with less money than you have. Do they 'need' 25 staff? Do they 'need' a studio in Hollywood? Do they need to produce too many spin-off videos that don't get as many views? I'd start some trimming a lot of fat before offloading costs onto loyal fans that put you where you are in the first place. An inefficient, mismanaged bloated business model fueled by ambition (I don't want to say ego) is not the fans responsiblilty.
There have been a lot of people paraphrasing Harvey Dent about this fiasco with things like, "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become three guys on a couch." It fits
As an outsider I thought the video video was manipulative and ridiculous, even disregarding the price I think it’s arrogant to believe you have enough content to justify a streaming subscription and how there’s are so many good content creators on TH-cam. I think it was a good apology video but I think they should taking about why they adopted a ridiculous paywall structure, maybe it was or was Steven but they should at least address it. Overall I’m not going to pat them on the back for what’s suppose to be the original payment structure and honestly if they didn’t make this payment structure and apologize then they would be dead in the water.
Yes! They were charging the same as like Hulu and Netflix lowest tiers, but they do not have nearly the same amount of content! I don't know how they thought they could actually get away with that.
I’m glad they walked this back. However, I was def in the minority in not thinking this was a move of corporate greed. I found it painful to read so many hateful comments that didn’t give these guys or their employees an ounce of grace or the benefit of the doubt. Its understandable that people felt betrayed. I also feel like artists shouldn’t be crucified for wanting to grow and inviting their fans to support their next step. Just a sad episode all around.
They should have explained it like this in the first place. They did a really bad job of getting people to understand in the original video. If they'd had a better script the first time, this might not have been necessary as people would have been more understanding. I think I would have reacted more favorably, even while not being able to afford the streaming I would have been bummered that I couldn't watch but still been rooting for their success.
Hello Beca 🙋🏻♂️👋🏻 I left a message that I wanted to know your opinion but to the maximum on this topic and even more so on Twitter/X there are people who are criticizing them for seeking fame and controversy!
Hey, since you have been an off and on patrion member of theirs, maybe you could pop back in and see if there's any truth to the rumor that the access code given to current patrion members really is only valid for 3 months. Maybe get a feel for how the patrons feel about all of this. That's a video I would love to watch.
Shane’s expression is because he knows what they did wrong. I don’t think Steven Lim understands how badly they messed up though. I can’t get a good read on Ryan in this video, though.

Hello Beca 🙋🏻♂️👋🏻 Now why won't they leave TH-cam? Also on Twitter/X I see many people who are criticizing them because they are seeking fame and controversy 😨 What do you think about this?
You sound very parasocial. Lol. Theyre not your friends, they were about to take all their content away from their audience to whom they bravely said goodbye to in the first video with: "if this is the last time you see us, thank you for everything" lol. Nah. Since Im in the future I can see that this move still hurt them as a channel.
Personally I think they should explain in detail why they need 25 employees and excess production costs, people have said lower budget stuff in fine.
I feel for the people who work there but times are tough
I can’t afford to pay for another streaming service

If you have’t you should check out my original video on this. I noticed similarly to what you did ❤️🩹 you’re not alone.

The tone of the first video is known as 'gaslighting'
No it’s not. Ffs 🤦🏽♂️ not everything is gaslighting or narcissistic or any other self diagnosed online terms

I never listen to Twitter :)
Are my comments being deleted? Because i left two comments and i can't see them?
Hey there! I saw a comment from you at first but it disappeared. I didn't delete it. I tried responding to it but TH-cam gave me an error.
I think TH-cam is trolling me right now, i just sent another comment and It Just disapered again

I can't believe Beca did it! She got them to change their minds. Take the win,Beca. 🤗 Your voice probably turned the tide. Change my mind. 🤓
To be honest I unsubbed from them and only know about this video because of you. I guess I will sub to their channel again. I am a fan of Shane.
I did too.. i guess i can give them another chance to see if they really have learned their lesson. To err is human...
