My first Yu-Gi-Oh experience was watching a few episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal. I didn't really understand what was going on. I was under 10 at the time. My next experience was I watched a few episodes someone recorded on these VHS tapes I found in a house my family moved into. Some east-Asians from Japan or Korea have lighter skins than many people we label as "white" (like mediterranean people). What you're saying is only true in average, not in absolute terms.

My first Yu-Gi-Oh experience was watching a few episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal. I didn't really understand what was going on. I was under 10 at the time.
My next experience was I watched a few episodes someone recorded on these VHS tapes I found in a house my family moved into. There were the original first 10 pokemon episodes and a few Yu-Gi-Oh episodes from the original series. I went to school and there was a boy who had a deck of Yu-Gi-Oh cards. I didn't understand what they said or meant. It was like looking at a foreign language. I was in 6th grade.
I had another experience but I don't know when that was. I don't even know which series it was.
After moving again, these two people ended up staying with us. They had a box with some Yu-Gi-Oh cards in them. I looked at the cards and decided to look up the show.
I became almost instantly hooked and I had the biggest and most random crush on Kaiba.
