I am completely in awe of this man and how he has truly inspired children to love & respect music. I have watched this probably 10 times and cry every single time. Absolutely beautiful.
This is so impressive. He is obviously taking this seriously. He's probably sung this live 100's of times yet, here he puts heart into ever note of it. The two choir girls at 2:39 and the center female flutist are all of the rest of us listening to this. This works so well with a orchestra. It has cascades, crescendos and fanfares like a symphonic composition. This is a several ticks above even the best '70's/'80's stadium power ballads.
It's make me a little teary eyed watching these young kids having such an amazing time and such an amazing experience spending time on stage with one of the all time legends of rock and roll . . . and they are playing music from nearly 40 years ago
Tommy Shaw has performed this song literally thousands and thousands of times over the years on the road with Styx or while touring solo. It's literally like second nature to him. Wow! I’ve always loved this song. It’s lyrics are so poignantly cutting & emblematic of the multitudes of silently struggling beasts of burden, common people who make this world function, every day, 24/7, without fanfare, Never any credit, just daily struggles. This version & it’s message of hope & love 2 the next generation is stunning. Wow! Wow! Wow...
Listening to this on my Bose Headset while working, and it literally gave me chills. It is so great. The voice of Tommy Shaw and those incredible kids, playing with this incredible arrangement. Wow.. just wow.
My Bose headphones are on as well. Best way to listen to this masterpiece. This brings me to tears as do most of the other songs he does with the CYO. The sound. The arrangement. Tommy's magnificent voice. The chorus, too! The orchestra is fully into it, fully gets it! A special shout-out to the conductor who brings it all together, brings out the very best in these kids who will take music with them for the rest of their lives as so many on this page have. I was listening to Styx in the 70s... Still do! This is just stunning!
Same here. The original has been a song to guide my life for decades, but this arrangement is just so beautiful I can't stop the tears. Thank you everyone involved, you are amazing.

To listen to this in 7-22 is just amazing after all these years, puts tears in my eyes, I miss this type of music, way to go Tommy Shaw, keep it up, may your music never die.
Ya I dropped some tears too. Dave 53 years old.
Unbelievable! These kids rocked the show! Tommy Shaw IS STYX and he still knocks it out of the ballpark!
to see these youth singing their lungs out with a legend is beautiful. not just a song...a great message for these young adults
It's now in their souls!
So awe inspiring with these wonderful young people.❤❤❤
Damn - what a talent this guy is and always has been.
Know In The Day as
“Hot Damn Tommy Shaw”. I saw STYX when they toured with the pieces of eight album at Nassau Coliseum! I was probably 15 years old and had fourth row seats. Drove out from New Jersey. I was unforgettable. ❤️🎸🎸🥁⭐️
Damn Yankee 😉
This song was so relevant when it came out. To hear it reborn is nothing short of genius.
Boy, does this song apply to our situation right now! The blue collar man makes this country.
Best comment on this video so far you are 100% correct
Proud Blue Collar electrician
But always remember Republicans will never help increase your pay better your healthcare or education they will always keep you down and use propaganda to make you vote against your own best interest
Always remember Republicans have never and will never help blue-collar workers. They fight against unions, pay increases and better healthcare! they absolutely work to make the wealthy even wealthier and they use propaganda on idiots to get them to vote against their own best interest! look at their goddamn track record.
Tommy still had it after all these years, the voice of an angel!!!
Hello, how are you doing? it’s nice seeing you here.
@@tommyshaw4050 be well, Sir, and know what happiness you have brought to so many, especially me. I'm just a couple of years younger than you and have been listening to you since the beginning. LOVE your music, love how you have instilled in these kids the love of classic rock in addition to the classical music they're being trained in. LOVE how you've taken such good care of your instrument after all these years: You Sound Magnificent! Please keep it up! Be well!!! See you in St. Augustine in April!!!
@@HJP1015 Hello Heidi, How are you doing? I'm sorry for the late response, well I
know you must be surprised to receive a
message from me right?
Styx got me through my hardest time in Rockford, Illinois. Tommy really was a blessing to STYX.
Wow I am just stunned... his voice is still as beautiful as it was 40 years ago!
⚘
I see so many gifted young people. If you let these young people take over I am sure we will have a greater planet.
This version of this song gives me chills every time I hear it! His voice is still incredibly beautiful after 65 years on this earth! Love you, Tommy!
My sentiments exactly, Shasta!
HOW cool is THIS! All those kids performing with a living rock and roll legend! WOW !
Seriously doubt if they are aware of that
@@robhutchinson9310 Yeah....Billy Eyelash on Jimmy Kimmel didn't know who Van Halen is (was). This is a sad, sad era for music.
Agree 1000%
I love this man's voice. He's so talented. This version is heart breaking.
This totally engulfed me! And yes, Tommy Shaw's voice is the same...simply great! Be well Tommy Shaw!
Tommy's voice sounds AMAZING!!! Such talented kids!!! This is PURE GOLD!!!!
Hello, how are you doing? it’s nice seeing you here.
Wow. Tommy still sounds so sharp and powerful with his iconic voice. Gives me chills. I'm a long time fan of STYX and Damn Yankees
Tommy Shaw has aged like fine wine.
Hauntingly beautiful rendition of this song. Blew me away. Tommy Shaw is incredible.
I grew up with Styx and this is amazing!!!!!
I am completely in awe of this man and how he has truly inspired children to love & respect music. I have watched this probably 10 times and cry every single time. Absolutely beautiful.
This is the power of a well written song
Couldn't stop smiling... this will live on forever with these kids. Amazing music should always live on!!!
Imagine how much work went into writing all the orchestra parts!
This IS how great music evolves
Whoever did these charts KNEW what they were doing!
Utterly jaw-dropping performance by all!! Tommy still has the chops!! The orchestra added magic to an already magical song!
These young kids killing it in the orchestra! Bravo!
Absolutely orchestra and choir are outstanding
Tommy Shaw has performed this song literally thousands and thousands of times over the years on the road with Styx or while touring solo. It's literally like second nature to him. With his incredible vocal range and immense talent on not only guitar but multiple instruments, you could give him a washboard and he'd still be able to plug you out an amazing performance of Blue Collar Man! Some people are born with a gift, and that gift is to make incredible, awe-inspiring music for the rest of the world to enjoy. Tommy Shaw is one of those people.
WOW, those kids must have blown away, damn, Tommy only gets better, like a fine a wine, a true singer and just a true entertainer. Ama zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ing ...
this has to be one of the most amazing things i have ever heard !!!!! MINDBLOWN
I've heard this song (the original) hundreds of times. Always liked it a lot, and I knew the lyrics were meaningful, but it just never made me... emotional... till now. Something special about this version.
❤️
This is AWESOME!!!!! Notice how much the kids get into this. Incredible!!!!
That flutist was rockin!
Wow! Wow! Wow...
Mr. Tommy Shaw is incredible. Thanks for the memories!!
What a powerful song. Really hits home. 🛠
Looks like a room full of passion. Awesome performance 👏👏👏
Very underrated guitarist, and vocalist.
Amazing rendition of a wonderful song from way back. I first heard it in 1978. It never gets old.
So many nerds............ SOOOOOO much PASSION! This is magic! This is REAL! I'm in tears.
Wow, amazing! He sounds as good as he did 40 years ago. The kids are amazing as well. Great job! Brought tears to my eyes.
me too brother
Same here. The original has been a song to guide my life for decades, but this arrangement is just so beautiful I can't stop the tears. Thank you everyone involved, you are amazing.
I wouldn't think this is a high paying gig for Tommy Shaw so bravo to him for the countless hours he put in to make this amazing for those kids and us.
Love this guy! Tommy Shaw has it all. Stage presence, an amazing rock voice, and very nice hair to boot. He can write a mighty fine song, too. This one is a classic.
Bravo to these kids and God bless you Tommy.
I saw STYX last night in concert. Westbury NY. The totally rocked the theater ❤️
I saw them 2 months ago in Michigan, and they were awesome.
What an incredible performance! So impressed with the Cleveland Youth Orchestra and Chorus. But mostly I am in awe of Tommy Shaw. He is such a talented rock performer, singer, and composer. He has not lost any of his vocal range and is such a great guitarist! I am so inspired by his collaboration with these young talented musicians and sharing his talent and time to inspire a new generation. Bravo Tommy!!
I agree with you a thousand percent what an amazing talent Tommy Shaw is a musical gift to the world
I love the fact that Tommy teaches new generations.
Children: as talented as you all are, you still have no idea how incredibly fortunate you were to have had this opportunity. Treasure it always and be grateful to Tommy Shaw for teaching you what music really is.
I just arrived..yesterday was a good day...today is a great day. Thank you 🌞
Love me a blue collar man. Always have, always will. ❤ Beautifully done.
I’ve always been in awe of Tommy. I’ve seen Styx a few times and they’re always amazing and I lose my voice singing with them, but, I got choked up watching the amazing young musicians getting into a song that was written before they were born! The choir! The lead violinist, and the young lady flutist singing along while waiting for her part!!
🫶😊❤️❤️ the future of our music will be in good hands thanks to artists like Tommy Shaw… For The Love of Music 🫶
It's just heartwarming, isn't it?
Those vocals by Tommy are truly amazing 👍❤️👍
Truly amazing! To bring this young generation into this song is epic! Incredible performance!
Well said!
Excellence all round here. Tommy at 64. Mind blown.
I can never get enough hearing, watching everyone!! The Very talented kids, singing, playing their instruments!! And seeing their faces as they play, and realize just how good Tommy's talent writing the songs, as a Rock and Roll guy!
Thanks so much!!! Great music and orchestra !
I'm 70 years old and I still can't enough of Styx
is thi sfor sle
I agree and I’m 67
When this concert aired on TV around 2018, I caught it on a channel to watch late at night by accident. I was in awe! First off, Tommy is an amazing musician and singer. He is legendary and iconic. I can't say enough about him, he is just incredible. And for him to join together with these amazing youths, speaks volumes. I give him much credit and adulation because he is such a caring man to be able to guide and teach these young kids. Bravo. And these young children are gifted. Wow. To be so accomplished in music, singing and playing instruments is just a wonderful and beautiful thing. Kids like these don't seek trouble, they seek success. Go for them and thank you Tommy for being such a great person. I just saw Styx tonight in concert in St. Augustine and they were amazing as always. 5 times now I have seen them and I will go again.
A talent and song of my youth, every bit as relevant in these days. An anthem for our nation, and really the world, to fight our way back.
Tell John Galt I said "Hello"
