The great thing about you tube is learning the correct way to do things.I have been moving the flammable can away from the tire before lighting it up. Thanks , I am sure this how-to video will help a lot of people.
I lost the front pulley at 45mph and some of the pieces and belt passed me going at least 70. I learned my lesson. Blue loctite and always install the guard.
That linkage on the cam is for decompression during starting. It opens the valve briefly at low rpm so the compression is lower so you can start the engine. Try disabling it and starting the engine
the thing on the cam is a compression release for easy starting, if it wasnt there, you could have a kick back and it could hurt your arms jerking the rope out of your hand, leave that there unless you are changing to elec starter
That "thing" you were flicking is a "compression release". It bumps the exhaust valve at cranking RPM to lessen the compression. lol. Once the engine starts It does not bump or hold the exhaust valve open, thus giving you full compression.!! Great invention really. NMC
Don't listen to all the haters on here. That thing on the camshaft is a gyroscopic "booster." When you hit about 3,000 rpm, it expands outward and causes the exhaust valve to open an additional 0.350". This creates more flow through the head, which in turn creates more power. That's the real reason your drive pulley blew apart on your torque converter. Also, when you had the engine apart you should have noticed the alignment dots on the crank gear and cam gear. You can gain an extra 5 hp by moving the dot on the cam gear 2 teeth AHEAD of the crank gear dot. This advances the timing and creates a more complete fuel burn. They don't do that at the factory for liability reasons, but as long as you are removing the governor then you might as well do the timing advance since it's so easy to do. Also, when you seat the tires you should use gasoline. Stand the wheel up and pour enough gas into the tire to fill it to the bead. Then roll the wheel around CAREFULLY to spread the gas all around the inside of the tire. Some might spill out but it will evaporate so no worries there. Then when you have rotated the wheel all the way around, light the puddle of gas inside the tire. This will instantly seat the tire and also soften the bead up so that it seals even better against the rim. This is important if you like taking fast turns or doing donuts. Lastly, remove the stock spark plug and cut the ground electrode off of the bottom of it, leaving only the center electrode sticking out. Doing this allows the spark to stretch out to the top of the piston, which increases performance.
Your description of filling the tire all the way to the top of the bead with gas sounds like yer trying to get some one hurt unless I'm misinterpreting what you said. It only takes about an ounce of gas to gitter done
Jack Harris lol, yes true look at the engine diagram. Every Honda/clone engine has a compression release of the camshaft. Edit; also the gopowersports cvts are Chinese cvts you can get on eBay for $100 less.
As long as you don't upgrade your valve springs when you remove your governor, you shouldn't be able to rev the engine to a point where something lets go. Valve float limits it to about 5000rpm.
No, you have to upgrade the valve springs. 18s or 22s. Using the stock valve springs can cause valve float and can actually damage the valves or even worse the valves can play a game of patty cake with the piston and break or bend them.
The camshaft does not have v tech dumbss it is called easy start it slightly opens the exhaust valve when starting and when the engine start running it expands and dose t affect the valves anymore
i wouldnt go that far, but i think the idea of a check might be a rootcause, at 54 , i cant really blame them, but maybe how they were raised and not taught the idea of a honest work day where they stink and so tired when they get home that they shower-eat- go to bed, i did that for years when in construction, it will teach the reason for finishing school ,,,
Don’t know what you guys expected from a channel called “build break repeat” I didn’t hear them claiming to be pros anywhere in the vid either, pls upload something on the topic since you know so much
Hey do you know what this go-kart is called so I can order parts for one like it I have one that needs a front spindle and I can't tell what size it is to get a new one and I have no clue what this go-kart is called please help
Nice vid man, had the same problem with the torque converter on my race kart. I just loctited tf out of it and got a long bolt with a lock washer and it stayed from then on out.
Oh man lol. You boys have so much to learn about motors and ohv but I guess I was young and dumb when I was your age too. Reading will solve all of those problems by the way.
That's how you Mount a tire, uh huh. Lucky you didn't blow that tire off the rim. You only need one short spray. One and done but I guess stupid luck works too
Nice job guys. Built a two seater for the grandson. It's setup like yours and nearly finished but haven't fired it up yet. What kind of speeds are you getting without the mods and still governed 212cc or similar HP original motor? Best.
The reason your torque converter flew apart was because you didn't tighten the center bolt tight enough. That bolt holds the clutch on, when the bolt comes out the end bell will fall off . Then the weights will fly apart because nothing is there to hold them in anymore.. The GPS torque converter is the same as the cheap Ebay ones only they charge more for it. $59 on eBay or $119 at GPS, same converter just twice the price... I know GPS sponsors you and sends you free stuff. Please tell them to stop charging twice as much for their parts. They might listen to you :-) I would put some lock tight on that clutch bolt next time. Also, there are a couple WAY easier ways to remove that governor gear. Simple way is to remove the flywheel and use a center punch and just push that pin into the block. It pushes out easy. Then that entire assembly will come out of the block. You can now take the circle clip off and insert the rod back in the block OR thread the hole for a 1/4-20 bolt and lock tight that into the block instead of the rod. Also, it wasn't clear in your video but WHENEVER you remove that governor gear, make triple sure you also remove the metal washer that is under the plastic gear. If you don't remove that washer, it can get in between the teeth of the crank and cam ruin your engine in no time. If you didn't remove that washer, take the cover off and remove it now ! Good luck and thanks for the videos.
Nice video. How many teeth is the big sprocket. My go kart is a roketa 110cc. 3 speed. I swap the engine for a predator 212cc. It runs. But the belt broke. It has a 30 torque converter from ebay. I think the belt broke because the sprocket is too small. It's a 38 teeth. I have bought two more sprockets one is 60 and the other 80 teeth. 420 chain. Which sprocket should I use. Thanks
That other torque converter is the weirdest looking one I have ever seen. Also you could have just moved the sprocket over instead of doing all that fabrication.
Yeah if you really want those engines to last a decent amount of time run them under a load for a little bit and then do another oil change get all the metal flakes out of there from Breakin I know they're cheap still
Thats how all bikes are when they get broken in. But they usually have an oil filter and usually the first oil change is 100-200 miles for motorcycles.
Did you ever think of using snow machine engines instead, My Dad and I had picked up and MXZ 800 liquid to put in the kart we built, It had insane power and speeds were equally scary getting it just over half throttle, what use do is pretty good but just offering an alternate idea for a power plant, And if you can find 1 that was stolen and recovered or Insurance right offs where you pick them up reasonably cheap, I am a hot rodder and speed is just in my blood so love putting high horse power engines like the example I gave you using a Rotax engine because they make good power and they have they are very reliable so you do not need to worry about breaking down, reason for me is I am in a wheelchair and need something reliable, Also was just wondering for doing a build for my son is can you get a chassis already fabricated or do you need to build a frame, Reason I am asking is I do not have much time to build this with my boy because I have an incurable cancer that is aggressive, so would like to get something from some 1 to cut time down and build it with my son, because he has always wanted to restore a old truck or car with me but I just do not have the time for that so he will be able to say at least I built this with my Dad. And great videos by the way that is why I asked if use could help me out, Bear L.
@@joeshmo2473 WTF you taking about get off the drugs after I compliment you on your work and that is the respect you give to people that watch your videos, fuck you idiot not on any drugs maybe you should be getting off of what ever you are on and climb down off your high horse especially after some 1 compliments you, you are a joke and a clown do not waste my time.
Hey guys, you are being watched by thousands. Your method of seating tires is extremely dangerous. My advice is to either find a safer way (there are many) or tell your audience to take it to someone who can seat any that turn out to be stubborn. Do not show techniques to literally blow up a tire or end up with unwanted pieces of stuff in your face.
The great thing about you tube is learning the correct way to do things.I have been moving the flammable can away from the tire before lighting it up. Thanks , I am sure this how-to video will help a lot of people.
Yeah about that I do semi tires with far less starting fluid then that you just need to put some in the tire then run it out to light it.
1:40 that's the decompression lever, it makes starting the engine easier, it moves out of the way when the engine starts up.
I had one of these gokarts but installed a Polaris triple 600cc snowmobile engine.
It pulled wheelies at 60mph
VITO SCOTTI how did you put the engine on did you need to get the transmission for it also ???
VITO SCOTTI shut the fuck up
I am in that process but with the Yamaha VMAX
I lost the front pulley at 45mph and some of the pieces and belt passed me going at least 70. I learned my lesson. Blue loctite and always install the guard.

I have a 420 in mine

8:01 Freaking nailed it!
I just picked one up with a shaft driven 1000cc suzuki paired to it, It's going to be a fun video to put together.
Soooooo, we got the engine mounted up......? Looks like that went well
Ratchet strap is a lot safer method of setting the bead lol, but that works too
@9:26 the tire doesn’t spin because the nut was impacted to the bearing. Need to leave a small gap.
Hey, what kind of go kart is this? I have the same one (with Mitsubishi engine per previous owner) but can't see any identification on the chassis.

@Timothy Hall yeah his entire comment sounds like he's trying to hurt someone.
Great idea fire setting the beads a foot from a gas canister
That weight on the camshaft is a pressure release for starting it easier
Btw the gopowersports cvt is the same as the eBay cvts just better bolts.
not true
Jack Harris lol, yes true look at the engine diagram. Every Honda/clone engine has a compression release of the camshaft. Edit; also the gopowersports cvts are Chinese cvts you can get on eBay for $100 less.
Hoe fast is that thing and if i buy a offroad kart for 170 bucks so it has a 212 cc engine how fast will it go
As long as you don't upgrade your valve springs when you remove your governor, you shouldn't be able to rev the engine to a point where something lets go. Valve float limits it to about 5000rpm.
Oh no, It'll still rev faster than point valve float occurs... You'll just hear your valves being murderd when they hit the top of the piston.

Yeah unfortunately everyone want to be TH-cam stars. All you have to be is smart enough to hold a camera and make sure it’s on.
A.C.R. (Automatic compression release.)
At least that's what it was called in the cast iron Kohlers.

Would LockTite work on the Torque converter?
Yep its actually best to use it
Why do you actually remove the governor? Just disconnect the linkage from the carb - or does it work differently from what I am used to?
VTech includes variable valve lift. So not quite VTech-equivalent 😉
what is the govener used for?
Did you flip the axle and if so did the sprocket line up

where did you get the front wheels???
i did this to a go kart it took a while because it wasnt a good clean swap but it was worth it

When using starting fluid to do the bead of a tire dont use as much as you did.

It’s ok my uncle told me he owes a machine shop and people just bring him moters with the cam in it lol so he figured it out from go power sports 😂
