But yeah, this video popped up and it’s still good content.
Keep it going and keep pushing out the fire content.

Best comment of the day!
If I remember right one of the quotes that the American ambassador told the Iranians was "you never want to see our non proportional response" 🇺🇸
I was there.
The tanker escort mission was called Operation Earnest Will. When we would enter or leave the gulf through the Straits of Hormuz, Iran would light us up with their Silkworm missile radars. And steaming around in mined waters is rather nerve-racking.
I was on the USS Merrill (DD-976), SAG B, during this engagement. We gave them a 15-minute warning in English, then farsi (we had a CT onboard who spoke farsi), then in English, then in Farsi, then he finished it with, "Have a nice day." Of course we all cheered at that. Afterwards, we gave them a 10-minute warning, a 5-minute warning, then we told them, "We are opening fire, is everyone off the platform?" They said, "We are not leaving." So, we opened fire.
We fired 2 rounds before they fired back with a 22mm chain gun. Our Fire Controlman took care of that with one shot, as Nic said. Yes, he was THAT good.
We were supposed to fire 5 or 10 rounds, then the Lynde B. McCormick was supposed to do the same. We were supposed to trade off until finished. We wound up doing all the shooting on the Sassan oil platform because Lynde B. McCormick's gun had dropped sync and was "walking" and they couldn't fix it in time.
After the engagement we had a joke: How does the Ayatollah inspect his fleet... Glass Bottomed boat.
The Soviet Udaloy destroyer was gathering intel.
I love Nic's presentation. I've seen most of his videos and they are awesome.
Always cool hearing on the ground details from someone who was actually there.

I think the real intention of the Soviet destroyer was to see the capabilities of the American Navy.
And we want them to know.....that's why they really haven't messed with us....because they know

For the record, you have FAR MORE computing power in your pocket than what was on any warships in the 80s.
And yet the US supposedly went to the moon in the 60"s seems legit
@@YOLO891 I mean, calculus was invented in the 1600s, thats all you really need to go to the moon. It was a lot less computing, more raw math that multiple geniuses were calculating and verifying on paper before ever launching the rocket.
@@YOLO891 Don't need computing power for that. Just engineering skills. We made goddamned nuclear bombs in the 40's, what's so hard to believe about making a big rocket?
Also, fun fact: there is a specific technology that would be needed in YOUR claim that we actually didn't have back then: the capability to fake video footage of people on the moon. That would require video editing and processing power that we actually didn't have back then.
@YOLO891 Because humans did the calculations. That's what the term computer comes from. People who did computations were called computers. You can make all of the calculations years before the moon launch. You aren't making on the fly calculations with space flight. That's why it worked lol.
@@chaosapple7771 exactly, and even if you were making those calculations on the fly, as was the case with Apollo 13, it's 40 physicists and engineers back in Houston doing it on slide rulers then sending the results to the crew.

The poor Sammy B (as she was known by her crew)DE-413 was sunk by the Japanese IJN in Oct. 1944. It's unit was called Taffy 3 and it was part of task unit 77.4.3. It was in the battle for Leyte Gulf off the island of Samar in the Philippines. The Sammy B accorded itself very bravely in that battle. It won many accomodations and awards. The U.S.S. Samuel B. Roberts FFG-58 was the 3rd such vessel with that name. I'm very glad the Frigate was not sunk in its engagement with the Iranians. That would have been a sad epitaph.

"Don't Touch My Boats" - Habitual Line Crosser
During the war, the capt of the Iranian ship that was disabled earned the nickname "capt Nasty" as he would "inspect" neutral oil tankers and more, be real friendly even dining with some of the captains.... but then when he'd depart, he would open fire on the neutral ships bridges and LIVING QUARTERS and often radio "Have a nice day" afterwards, and fleeing the area.
There's an example as far back as the early 1800s, that reminds people once again: do not touch our boats. Specifically, in the 1800s, America's navy went to war with, and destroyed most, of the Barbery pirates' fleet in the Mediterranean. After this, the first pirate war was won with an unconditional surrender.
US Government: Don't touch our boats!
The move those jets made on the frigid, totally straight out of a top gun scene. I’m imagining Maverick pulling a stunt like that.
The oil and gas we use stateside is ~85% ours (Texas/Alaska/California), and the remainder is foreign.

15:00 Mark! What's sad about that is that the "McDonnal-Douglas F-4 Phantom II" was built by us and sold to the pre-Islamic Revolution government that was friendly to us. 😢
It reminds me of the Falklands War. We sold the USS Phoenix to Argentina who of course renamed it for their navy. We were neutral during that was because both sides were our friends. But anyway, a British attack submarine sank our former heavy cruiser and became the first submarine to sink a ship since World War 2! 😮

The soviets are like... drive by shooting? Pulls out cell phone and eats 7-11 food watching it all...
Yes, during Operation Praying Mantis, a Soviet warship, the frigate "Bezzavetnyy," was present in the area. The Soviets claimed that they were there only to observe and take pictures. However, their presence added a layer of complexity to the situation, given the Cold War context and the potential for misinterpretation or escalation. The operation itself was a significant naval battle between the United States and Iran in 1988.
"Drinkin tea in the middle of a shootout is crazy" hahaha 🤣😂
Rumour has it, the A6 pilot was of Japanese descent. He woke up that day and decided BANZAI.
The thing is this operation was classified up until 2007. All records were sealed and kept from the public at the time. It wasn't until2007 that the records were unsealed and the public could find out what actually happened.
