  • American Couple Reacts: Britain's: Red Arrows North American Tour 2019! FIRST TIME REACTION! This is the first time we are seeing the Red Arrows in our own country! Over the summer of 2019 the Red Arrows, the RAF's aerobatic display team, were busy flying over North America as part of their biggest-ever tour in the region. For 11 weeks the Reds performed displays and fly-past's in more than 20 cities in the United States and Canada. This was such a fun and prideful video between our nations and shows just how real and alive our special relationship is! We enjoy the Red Arrows more and more each time we see them! We hope you enjoy this as much as we did. Thank you SO much for watching! My friend is Damo’s wife who was mentioned having their baby when in Canada. The RAF were great - they immediately found a commercial flight that was flying to London an hour after the phone call. They met him at the airport and drove him to the hospital door. He got there with less than an hour spare and saw the birth of their daughter. Had a couple of days at home and flew back to join the team for the next air show.
We live only 15 mins drive from the reds’ new base at RAF Waddington. We’re blessed to see them practicing all the time and saw the Saudi Hawks a few weeks ago too.

The Red Arrows are incredible. Back in 80s my Dad was a RAAF Roulette (Aussie jet display team) and he to this day still says the Reds are the benchmark. Unlike the Red Arrows though they were part time their day job being instructors. He got the call up after #1 and #2 were killed in an accident during practice. They had a USAF exchange pilot on the team who later went on to be a Thunderbird.
Like Dad quite a lot of ex Red Arrows and ex Roulettes ended up flying together based in Hong Kong. Heard lots of their cool stories having beers with them in my late teenage years.

The RAF Black Arrows ( 111 Squadron ) aerobatic display team formed in 1956, flying all black Hawker Hunter aircraft. They still hold the world record for looping 22 aircraft in formation at the Farnborough Airshow in 1958, the photo used to hang in the Pilots crew room at RAF Wattisham. I was part of the groundcrew of 111 Squadron from 1971 - 1974 ( English Electric Lightning F3 )

The Red Arrows were based at RAF Scampton near Lincoln in Lincolnshire until earlier this year when this historic base closed down, former home to 617 Squadron The Dambusters, they didn’t move far to RAF Waddington also near Lincoln. Also near Lincoln is RAF Conigsby home of The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a small museum which you can visit. Lincolnshire was known as Bomber County during World War Two due to the number of bomber airfields.

If you stood next to them in a bar... you wouldn't notice. But.... they run some of the most advanced military equipment on the planet. The people in the various militaries are just... different... to us. Total respect and admiration to them. I get stressed over a spreadsheet not loading.... they get stressed over a 6G maneuverer.

So probably one of the guys going or returning solo to or from somewhere! Quite appropriate that this popped up whilst browsing TH-cam this evening. 👍👍👍
I live in North Yorkshire about a mile from the end of Linton on Ouse runway where they used to do the early part of fast jet training with Tucanos. Sadly, the base is now closed and all training is done over at Valley in North Wales. I don't half miss the daily low level flyovers of singletons through to formations of up to five.😢😢😢

Before the Red Arrows the RAF had the Yellow Jacks but very few people remember them. For me though in the mid 1950s a whole squadron of Hunter fighter jets 22 aircraft did a display at Farnborough. As a small boy living near there home base I saw them loop all 22 aircraft . This just! was a standard RAF squadron. The aircraft were painted black so for a while they were nicknamed the Black Arrows. They were a short term occurrence because of cost and safety. There was a very poor quality short video on TH-cam this

Up until the 1970s, the RAF often flew quite a few different display teams. In the 1950s it was normal for one front line fighter squadron to be nominated as the main RAF team. For instance, 92 squadron flew Hawker Hunters painted all over blue. They called themselves the Blue Diamonds. Then we had 111 Squadron with their all black Hunters (The Black Arrows). There were even some teams flying English Electric Lightnings. In addition to this there were teams flying the Hunting Jet Provost - The Linton Blades, The Macaws, The Gemini Pair etc.

when you come to the UK, if you're in Newcastle for the Great North Run in September, the Red Arrows do a fly by over our iconic Tyne Bridge as the big crowd of runners start to cross the Tyne , they then perform a fantastic show at the end of the race on South Shields seafront , I can't see the fly by and the show as I'm just on the cliffs at the sea shore for either one or both of my daughters finishing the race but I swear my girls go faster to make certain they see the Red Arrows display...it's such a stunning day 🎉❤

We have got the Red Arrows at the Bournemouth air show again this year.
I remember when Flt Lt Jon Egging lost his life when his Hawk crashed in 2011 over Bournemouth (south coast of England). There is a memorial in his honour overlooking the beach.
I am a PC based at Bournemouth and get to police the air show, it’s hard not to look up to the sky when they are flying overhead! ❤

I'm from Weston super Mare and the red arrows are very common there, doing their shows over the beach and see, ever since I was a baby I've seen them. They are truly amazing. And I agree how lovely it is that our relational nations share our experiences with each other as not just great allies but close friends and family. I think the majority if us Brits see the U.S as our big brother. I love Americans, love America and makes me so proud to have as close relations that we do.

Love the Red Arrows , l appreciate how many hours of practice it Takes to gain the skills to be a Red and how much time they put into getting their displays perfect( l live near their old base Scampton and the new one Waddington Lincolnshire.. they practice a lot😁). I think the whole uk fills with pride when they are apart of our National celebrations and at the many Air shows they display at . It is great to see the Arrows in the USA 🇺🇸 helping to strengthen the love, bond and respect our Nations have . Thanks for another great show , 🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸

Brit here, I've seen the Reds quite a few times and yes, they are impressive! I was at one air show where the announcer stated "Ladies and gentlemen, the Red Arrows". Pause, where are they then? Thunderous roar as they come in behind us, so low they nearly part your hair. They used to fly very low and in fact I was at an airshow in Brighton where one flew so low it clipped the top of a yatch mast and went on to crash in the sea. NB: I've been to the Sataes about 20 times for work and pleasure, all over the place and can say I have received nothing but courtesy and generosity. Warm feelings. Thanks for your lovely show.

I thought I'd worked out the point I wanted to make about this channel. But it seems I haven't.
I just love what you do and how you do it.
The Reds are just mind-blowingly amazing. Just speechless about that.

I know it’s on the video you showed , NOT your comments BUT …as a Canadian it drives me NUTS (maybe nuttier) when Brits use the term ‘America’ to refer to Canada too , as the Title ‘Red Arrows Across America’. Not North America. This happened to me a few times in the UK being called American even when told that I am Canadian, and while wearing a Maple Leaf pin 🍁. I got even when one response was “same thing”. I replied “ Well, it’s very nice to meet a Welshman.” The reply was “No, I’m English.”
My answer you can guess…”same thing” !!! 😆
Mic drop 🎤! They understood then !

The best place to see the Red Arrows in the UK is on the day of the Great North Run. I was crossing the river towards the finish line to meet my wife in a river taxi when a Singleton Red Arrow came up the river towards us. The pilot went into a shallow dive and pointed the areoplane straight at us! Everyone on the boat collectively went oops, then cheered as the pilot flew past. Thankyou for the film.

The US Marine Corp use basically the same aircraft as the Red Arrows Hawk. It is called the McDonnell Douglas T45 Goshawk and much modified for Aircraft Carrier operations, with arrester hook etc. They were made in the UK by BAESystems but go under the McDonnell Douglas name. I used to work for BAESystems and made parts for the T45.

Natasha yes, there are models available in 1/72 scale and 1/48 scale by Airfix, Revell (1/72) and, I believe, Hobbyboss (1/48). Not sure of availability of some/all in the US though

A correction to what you state and place on the screen at 17:52. The first air force to create an official squadron for public air displays was the Royal Candian Air Force (RCAF) Siskins in 1929. The RCAF was also the world's first military aviation force to perform an official military aerobatic display for the public in 1919 at the national exhibition in Toronto. Followed by the RAF in 1920 at the very first annual RAF Pagent in London. The US Army Air Force began their first official public air displays in 1927.
The next air force to form an official public air display squadron after Canada was the French Air Force with the Patrouille d'Étampes in 1931. The air forces and navies of both the UK and USA ran many unofficial air display squadrons from the 1920s through to the 1970s, both before and alongside their official air display squadrons. The USN formed its official air display squadron, The Blue Angels in 1946, followed by the USAF Acrojets in 1948, which was the very first air display team to fly jets. The RAF's first official air display squadron was The Black Arrows in 1956.

My holiday home's are in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, UK. We have an Air Show here every year, and "The Red Arrows" are always part of the show. (This years Air Show was August 24th & 25th 2023). A highlight of the show is two of the Red Arrows draw a heart in the sky with red smoke, and a third jet fly's through the centre of the heart with red smoke on leaving the red arrow piercing the heart. Love and best wish's to all ❤😄
Edit: I found a TH-cam clip of it. It's only 36 seconds long, but you see the heart and arrow. th-cam.com/video/N9PEs5vKxMo/w-d-xo.html

Red Arrows are good however they (2024) are now the only RAF unit to use that Hawk model, all others have now been scrapped or are in technical schools. They, like many European teams use training aircraft which are coming to the end of their service life. Techl Support for the Reds has been given for app 10 years, what happens after that, who knows. The French, Spanish, 1 of the Swiss teams all have the same issue. They are using 1970s technologies. I saw approx 7 display teams last year Inc the Blue Angel's, Thunderbirds, Swiss, etc, I'd say the Blue Angels are probably more dramatic and the Thunderbirds display differently in the US to the UK however the Reds are noticeably different. In a way, in the UK, can take the Reds for granted, enjoy these teams while can😊

    A small few interesting points.
The Airbus A400 Atlas has four engines, two have rotor blades that spin clockwise, and two have rotors that spin anti clockwise/counter clockwise.
The engines themselves all spin the same direction, but two have gearboxes to make the rotor blades spin the other way.
The Lockheed Hercules that does the similar role for the Blue Angels that the Atlas does for the Red Arrows, is called Fat Albert. In 2019 the then current Fat Albert was a Hercules C130T, but was replaced after 17 years and 30,000 hours of service, her retirement was/is an RAF Hercules C130J for $30million.
Also of note is the ship, the Queen Mary. While she was a British cruise liner, on the advent of WWII, she was commandeered by the war office for war duty. She is remembered in many US service persons minds as the ship that conveyed US service personnel both into and out of war. So while she is just a vessel to some as she sits there, she is remembered fondly by many that saw them out, sadly, not as many home.
