We're like a decade into this series and crendor revealed he wasn't sure what was supposed to be pointless. Damn the treasure really was the Crendors we met along the way.
I think the two Dark Portal statues are supposed to represent Kil'Jaedin and Archimonde. The orc warlocks didn't know what their mysterious gods looked like at the time, since revealing their form meant revealing that they and the draenei were the same race, so the orcs built them in cloaks with burning green eyes to represent their faceless masters. The original Azeroth portal (which we see in CoT and Warcraft II) was built by Medivh, who was possessed by Sargeras at the time, so he had no desire to adorn the frame with statues of his subordinates. When it was destroyed and rebuilt later by the Horde, they rebuilt it with the statues to match the one on Outland.
Fun fact about the Hinterlands gryphon statue: in the old, unreleased Warcraft point-and-click adventure game you can actually find the statue in the background when Thrall visits the dwarves. Not much of that game can be considered canon but at least the gryphon was already there in the 90s!
Another fun fact. As an alliance member, especially as a dwarf, you can slaughter your fellow dwarves brothers in classic wow. 0/36000 hated! Let’s go!
I love your number 1 choice. Also the Ravencrest statue is an homage to the Greek colossus I'm sure. Could just be any night elf from their time too but dedicated or gifted to Kurtalos.
A pick for me would be the statues holding the chains in the Black Rock Mountain where Molten Core is. They are holding that hunk of rock in the air by the chains
The Watcher statues next to the Dark Portal, and you can find them also in Nagrand (Twilight Ridge) and Caverns of Time, and more places. They were confirmed in Shadowlands when I played the Revendreth storyline, that they are the Nathrezim a.k.a Dreadlords. They were the ones to inspire or persuaded Sargeras to make the Burning Legion, and they are the Watchers. Hooded because they don't wan't to be recognized as creatures from the realm of death.
I quested through Uldum way back when but just realized the statues' presence from the vid and my mind immediately went to Neverending Story, so really great job of a reference they did. I loved the movie to it so much as a kid and nobody seems to know it anymore nowadays :/
I think the orcs kept it out of respect for their fiercest enemy who, despite being a human, was a peerless warrior who died only from overwhelming odds
I once heard someone say that you can learn just as much from a culture based on what they have forgotten as you can from what they remember. And that is what makes the mysteries so interesting. This world has existed for so long, so many things have happened, that they can have a giant statue that is partially destroyed and they just... forgot what it was. It is a small detail of worldbuilding that makes the world feel so much bigger
I think the beauty of this video series is that it consistently manages to pique the viewers' interest in random parts of the game that they might not otherwise have given a second thought. In this regard, "pointless" could be taken to be relative - as in, the items featured in the lists might *appear* to be pointless to many people, but could have deeper meaning or historical value once you look into the lore, development history and map geography. Maybe the point is that, after watching the show, we realize that the items aren't so pointless after all.
The King’s Hoard room is so awesome. It shows that the Vrykul are like the Vikings, pillaging treasure from literally every other culture on Azeroth. Metal as heck.
So glad that after the years have gone by when I first started watching you, you still make me laugh out loud. By the way, I was playing a WWIII simulator and I couldn't help but use one of your references because someone called me out for attacking them without warning. I responded by saying it was a WWIII game, not Pony Adventure Quest.
i love that you're still doing these. It brings back memories of early WoW TH-cam.(Damn didn't know editing your comment removes the Heart, that sucks :(.
I love that Crendor purpousedly did not put the Goblin statue from STV in number 1 just to spite the imaginary fans in his head that he thought were gonna be upset he did not put it in number one.
Here's my interpretation! I don't think the lists nor the things on the lists are pointless, because hearing you talk about these things brings me joy and peace. Thank you for making these lists, Crendor!!! Have a lovely day dude.
Dude! I totally forgot about the statue of liberty!! Dude!!! Kinda funny you made that correlation with the planet of the apes. I guess I made that correlation YEARS ago. Back when leveling through the old world was like a normal thing to do. It's kinda crazy you bring this statue up. So much nostalgia there. Thanks for being you, dude. You're awesome and amazing and bring a hell of a lot more laughs than you might think you do!
I love this series! Keep doing it please. It show us the majority of things scattered throughout the world have a meaning and a reason to be as much as we think they are random models and pieces. Wow it's such an amazing world I've been immersed through most part of my life ❤
Dude. All these years and I don't think I've ever flown over that Aerie Peak eagle. Just now from this video I find out that it's actually open and hollow with stuff at the bottom. I love this series
Honestly speaking, it’s been wild knowing I’ve been watching you since way before. I remember the gammon vs hogger rap. I remember all your old machinamas. Been watching you for awhile. And I wanted to say thank you. These lists may be pointless, but you are not. You are THE quality non quality everyone needs in their lives. Thank you Crendor.
Ul'dum is honestly one of my favourite zones. Just makes me sad there's so little actually there to do. The other zones from Cataclysm all got these big stories and Ul'dum got barely anything, just a zone used to dump some instances in with a handful of quests to lead to them.
The entire story is about finding the forge of origination an incredible powerful titan facility with the capability to reset creation. the facility is even used to power up the blast in uldir to destroy g'huun and n'zoth The effects of the curse of flesh and more corrupt dealing with elemental lords in their never ending bid to gain power. What do you mean it is not a big story.
Uldum was one of my most appreciated questing zones outside of LK content. Uldum was so immersive and the Indiana Jones type quest line was incredibly well done. Closely behind the Wrathgate quest line and the Siege on Undercity.
Personally I'd like for both the dark portal and ravencrest statues to simply be statues. Like the statue of liberty doesn't represent anyone, rodan's thinker doesn't represent anyone, they're just supposed to be powerful figures in and of themselves. Maybe they represent ideas or feelings. I think its important for lore to not be totally explored and explained so the player can fill the gaps in themselves.
The Ravencrest monument is a reference to the Colossus of Rhodes. One of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. When it first collapsed, only the legs remained, just like the Ravencrest monument in wow
a lot of these feels like things a DM threw into their world when starting off cuz they sounded cool, and then like 5 years down the line their play group matures and start asking lore questions and the dm has to come up with something that kind of makes sense. I think the portal statues were thrown in cuz they had a cool idea for the art, and figured they'd hand wave it as dark ritual mumbo jumbo.
Keep trying for that Blue Proto, Crendor! It took me 268 tries across 7 toons to finally get it, so I understand your pain and wish you all the luck I can!
My thoughts on the portal statues is that it's Guldan mocking Draenei statues and structures. As far as the two human statues in the dungeon they are: one of the many statues of Daelin Proudmoore (if you look at newer versions you'll really see it) and a copy of the statue of Turalyon (the kind of hard to miss statue at the front of Stormwind).
For as much hate as SL gets, I’ve always thought the massive statue of the Primus in Maldraxxus was super cool. When we got the preview of the zone and I saw that huge figure, I thought it was going to some kind of temple that we’d visit in a raid or dungeon. Turns out it was the hub for the Necrolords! Not as adventurous, but still cool! I also really like the massive winged statue at the top of Castle Denathrius in Revendreth. It always evoked “final boss” territory when I saw it and I always imagined it would come alive and we’d have to fight it like a boss from Shadow of the Colossus. Again, not quite how it turned out, but the imagery is still evocative!
This has probably been mentioned already, but i just could not sit idly by without making it apparent. The satutue at 9:30, is definetly a refferance to the colossus of rhodes, one of the ancient wonders of the world in real life, and most likely a refferance to the incredibly famous painting depicting the statue in pieces on the harbor near the sea, after a large earthquake taht caused the statues destruction. (btw the story of the colossus of rhodes is incredibly interesting and i highly recommend checking it out)
Guther The Darkbringer, the anti Uther, he was jealous of Uther taking all the fame so he built himself a statue, his statue was taken however by the king Ymiron who coveted it for it's Guther...ness, and so it was taken into his treasure room
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there one of those portal guard statues at a graveyard or something off the path between Duskwood and Deadwind Pass?
I think the dark portal statues are imbued with the souls of warlocks to keep the portal open. Remember in the opening of the Dark Portal into WoD, Cho'Gall and Terron Gore were the conduits.
I believe the Ravencrest monument is based off of The Collosus of Rhodes, which the statue of liberty was based on. In 226 BCE the statue collapsed leaving only it's legs upright, the rest remained scattered on the ground for 800 years before being melted down for scrap metal.
Would be neat if #1 turned out to be like some sort of void creature somehow whenever we get to the inevitable void vs. light expansion... I mean all the other expansion ideas have basically entered the game already in some form and those look like they could be some sort of void knight wraith creatures... South Seas expansion basically became BfA, the Emerald Dream stuff was like a part of Legion... We just had the dragon isles expansion... And the only other idea I've heard get floated around aside from light/void would be the expansion where something crazy happens on Azeroth to where Hogger rises up or something and like besieges Stormwind in an alliance with the kobolds or something like that... But idk if Blizz has the balls to make an expansion like that...
The Ravencrest statue could be Ilisana Ravencrest, Kurtalos' daughter. She's a Demon Hunter, so she might have been a form of sentinel before becoming a DH.
The things on the list are pointless because usually it's small little details in a zone, which is why it's fun to watch because it's nice to stop and smell the roses c:
And I find it funny that you are explaining yoursefl again because I always thought the lists were pointless and I remember you talking about how the LISTS are pointless and not the subjects of the lists, but now you pointed that you contradict yourself in the opening XD which is pointless, but funny I'm just glad youre still doing those videos
I have this feeling that I remember the dark portal statues blinking at times but I'm thinking now this is just one of those Mandela effects. Anyone else had this?
About the Dark Portal stautes: I've always thought they reminded me of Tyrael from Diablo. I'm not exactly a master in Blizzard lore or anything but I understand that Tyrael is/was an angel. Maybe angels in the Blizzard universe/lore are universal and reach across different universes and the statues represent them. Just like we have our own vision of angels and such in the real world. I cannot explain WHY exactly they would be angels but it's what I've been thinking.
Huh. So that’s what that feeling feels like. When you hear someone has been farming for something for so long. I’ve seen two blue Proto drake drops in the few months that wrath clsssic has been out. And I have one.
The broke n dragon statue in Wintergrasp is actually an unused Beta Dragon Isles asset from waaaaay back when it was gonna be a zone/battleground in... iirc vanilla?
after getting all the northrend mounts but the blue protodrake i parked 8 druids outside the instance and it only took 3 months of daily runs and i had it. good luck
have you seen the dwarf king statue inside Thor Modan in Grizzly Hills, Northrend? It's an interesting variation of the classic Modimus Anvilmar one :D
We're like a decade into this series and crendor revealed he wasn't sure what was supposed to be pointless. Damn the treasure really was the Crendors we met along the way.
True pointlesness has been achieved.
I think the two Dark Portal statues are supposed to represent Kil'Jaedin and Archimonde. When it was destroyed and rebuilt later by the Horde, they rebuilt it with the statues to match the one on Outland.
This is a really solid theory, I like this.
this is a great theory!
They are orcish death knights from the second war.
Ooh nice point❤
Those dwarves of Aerie Peak really wanted to touch some grass after the war with the Dark Iron dwarves.
Fun fact about the Hinterlands gryphon statue: in the old, unreleased Warcraft point-and-click adventure game you can actually find the statue in the background when Thrall visits the dwarves. Not much of that game can be considered canon but at least the gryphon was already there in the 90s!
It is also a nod to the WarCraft II Gryphon Rider building
Another fun fact. As an alliance member, especially as a dwarf, you can slaughter your fellow dwarves brothers in classic wow. 0/36000 hated! Let’s go!
I love your number 1 choice. Also the Ravencrest statue is an homage to the Greek colossus I'm sure. Could just be any night elf from their time too but dedicated or gifted to Kurtalos.
I also took it as homage to the poem "Ozymandias".
A pick for me would be the statues holding the chains in the Black Rock Mountain where Molten Core is. They are holding that hunk of rock in the air by the chains

Cool trivia
The Uldum Cat Statues are a reference to Sphynx Gate in The Neverending Story!
Always loved that cool homage.
Oh really? Interesting
I quested through Uldum way back when but just realized the statues' presence from the vid and my mind immediately went to Neverending Story, so really great job of a reference they did. I loved the movie to it so much as a kid and nobody seems to know it anymore nowadays :/
they also look like Sumerian/Assyrian Lamassu
A big thing you didn't mention with the Liu Lang statue is that the Wandering Isle, where the monk order hall & wood statue are, IS Shen-zin Su
The dark portal statues are the most pointless yet iconic statues that exist, I love them so much!
I love the statue of Anduin Lothar in Burning Steppes. I'm surprised the orcs never tore it down.
They were probably like "it took us a decade to build this shit, we're keeping it, we'll just make it ironic or something".
I think the orcs kept it out of respect for their fiercest enemy who, despite being a human, was a peerless warrior who died only from overwhelming odds
@@ZenFr0g thats an interesting take. I always tried to think of a reason it never got torn down long ago
@@ZenFr0g They were built on Honor even though it was a lie. So Honor to them even though it was all a trick was important to the Horde
The details, mystery, passion pout in this game from the beginning is what make it a timeless experience..
I also love that Shen-zin Su (the turtle statue) is the Pandaren starting area/monk order hall.
I like the one in Krasarang Wilds more. It feels so peaceful by the beach. And you can vision the time where the turtle left Pandaria.
Top ten rugs! Check out the rugs in Thunderbluff near the rope bridges

I always loved the statues in the Valley of the Kings in Loch Modan. Pretty sick, dude.
The big statue in Stormheim is really nice, plus you can walk a winding stairway up to the top
+1 for including Uther's brother Guther in this list
The King’s Hoard room is so awesome. It shows that the Vrykul are like the Vikings, pillaging treasure from literally every other culture on Azeroth. Metal as heck.
I'm gonna take a stab at the "pirate statue" from Utgarde, and say that its actually Daelin Proudmoore (Jaina's Father) as the model seems like his.
I really like the statue in stormheim of hrydshal's watch where you can go up the stairs inside it.
i love that you're still doing these. It brings back memories of early WoW TH-cam.(Damn didn't know editing your comment removes the Heart, that sucks :(.
14:10 he isnt a pirate but he is a sailor, that's a statue of admiral barean westwind. you can see it in the scarlet monastery armory.
I think number 5 is a reference to the Colossus of Rhodes here in Greece. :)
Dude! I totally forgot about the statue of liberty!! Dude!!! Kinda funny you made that correlation with the planet of the apes. I guess I made that correlation YEARS ago. I thought the pirate guy in Utgarde Pinnacle was meant to be Daelin Proudmoore.
the legendary series returns
Finally the Goblin Statue in Booty Bay now HAS a use, by housing a vendor that is part of the Felcycle secret
Glad to see this series still going on after a decade. Always used to watch it while playing WoW when I was a kid. Good times.
Love this list. Truly one of the lists of all time!
Man I came here to see some statues and left with some *knowledge.* Such a good video Crendog
Had a tough couples of days and really needed pure pointless vibes!
Dude. All these years and I don't think I've ever flown over that Aerie Peak eagle. Just now from this video I find out that it's actually open and hollow with stuff at the bottom. I love this series
Aren’t the flying cats very similar to the ones in the Neverening Story movie? The movie immediately came to mind as soon as they came on screen.
Thanks Crendor for reminding me to listen to that wonderful song of Liu Lang once more after many years
A new pointless top ten!? Just in time for my morning tea! Thanks Crendor. 😊
Honestly speaking, it’s been wild knowing I’ve been watching you since way before. I remember the gammon vs hogger rap. I remember all your old machinamas. Been watching you for awhile. Yeah, it's a cool zone but in terms of questing it's basically just one long Indiana Jones reference
The couple quests that are there are fairly fun, but yeah, it’s a literal and figurative content desert
The entire story is about finding the forge of origination an incredible powerful titan facility with the capability to reset creation.
the facility is even used to power up the blast in uldir to destroy g'huun and n'zoth
The effects of the curse of flesh and more corrupt dealing with elemental lords in their never ending bid to gain power.

Truly a masterpiece of interpretive content.
Uldum was one of my most appreciated questing zones outside of LK content. Uldum was so immersive and the Indiana Jones type quest line was incredibly well done. Closely behind the Wrathgate quest line and the Siege on Undercity.
Been playing since original vanilla, first time seeing one of your videos. I didnt know any of this about the statues. Thank you!

Well played on the Goblin statue. Well played.
This list was pretty sick!
Stormwind gate statues SNUBBED
Oh the Dark Portal statues... Nostalgia!
That wintergrasp statue looks like it might be from that removed Azshara battleground, which would be a neat touch.
Just came here to say that myself. It is one of the two dragon statues from the unused Azshara crater BG.
Was really hoping the mogu statues from the log in screen from MoP would be on this list, still a good list though, learned some cool lore though.
The Ravencrest monument is a reference to the Colossus of Rhodes. One of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. When it first collapsed, only the legs remained, just like the Ravencrest monument in wow

I loved questing in the Hinterlands back in the day. I never noticed the Statues ROFL. Gonna have to fly there and check it out.

I’m sad, the mists of pandaria statues from the login screen didn’t appear ;(
6:45 it always goes back to the Simpson 😂
The council of mystery and shadows petrifyed to forever guard the mysterys of this world of warcraft.
Oh and also their leader W.o. Warcraft themself.
So I’m thinking, you’ve already done too 10 inns but how about top 10 innkeepers?
Shen'sin Zu or however it's spelled is actually the Wandering Isle. He grew so large that he was able to hold mountains and other land on his back.
Guther The Darkbringer, the anti Uther, he was jealous of Uther taking all the fame so he built himself a statue, his statue was taken however by the king Ymiron who coveted it for it's Guther...ness, and so it was taken into his treasure room
The statues in Uldum basically look like the mobs that are there in Cata. Had not really noticed them before!
I believe that captain looking guy in the Utgarde Pinnacle treasure room is Daelin Proudmoore, Jaina's father and former Lord Admiral of Kul Tiras.
Before i even start watching the video ive seen the title and said thats exactly what i want to watch rn
A fun or weird thing about the Dark Portal is the colour inside it wasn’t always the same.
If you haven’t, pointless tip 10 campfire would be SICK XD
I’m probably confusing it with the lighthouse one and the intro statue but I could’ve sworn you already made a PTT Statues
I’ve played on Anvilmar server my entire 17 years playing this game :)
I got the blue proto drake out of a tank bag a decade or so ago. I hadn't even started farming UP for it, and they just give me the thing for free.
@13:53 those skeletons are eating the treasure!
The Ravencrest statue could be Ilisana Ravencrest, Kurtalos' daughter. She's a Demon Hunter, so she might have been a form of sentinel before becoming a DH.
You're right, Crendor, that's the statue of Goother Lightbringer!
The things on the list are pointless because usually it's small little details in a zone, which is why it's fun to watch because it's nice to stop and smell the roses c:
And I find it funny that you are explaining yoursefl again because I always thought the lists were pointless and I remember you talking about how the LISTS are pointless and not the subjects of the lists, but now you pointed that you contradict yourself in the opening XD which is pointless, but funny
I'm just glad youre still doing those videos
Is there a thing in the tresureroom for each race?
I miss your outro EDM songs!
me too, blame the TH-cam copyright system
I have this feeling that I remember the dark portal statues blinking at times but I'm thinking now this is just one of those Mandela effects. Anyone else had this?

oh wow that one in particular is one of the statues ever
The statue on Aerie Peak always reminded me of the Maltese Falcon.
11:30 you know what? yeah, you got me.
Huh. So that’s what that feeling feels like. When you hear someone has been farming for something for so long. I’ve seen two blue Proto drake drops in the few months that wrath clsssic has been out. And I have one.
15:51 the dark portal statues are only on the Draenor site … doesn’t make sense for them to be on the Azeroth side
The Ravencrest monument is likely a reference to Ozymandis, a pair of legs and a head of a statue
The broke n dragon statue in Wintergrasp is actually an unused Beta Dragon Isles asset from waaaaay back when it was gonna be a zone/battleground in... iirc vanilla?
Crendor coming out strong in support of Roland Barthes' Death of the Author
after getting all the northrend mounts but the blue protodrake i parked 8 druids outside the instance and it only took 3 months of daily runs and i had it. good luck
Anvilmar's been my home server since Burning Crusade
12:53 maybe the true pointless things were the friends we made a long the way
Guther for sure.
have you seen the dwarf king statue inside Thor Modan in Grizzly Hills, Northrend? It's an interesting variation of the classic Modimus Anvilmar one :D
