Thank you for sharing this technique. It's really handy to mold and cast small parts on-the-fly. I substituted gelatin with agar-agar. Also you can add cornstarch to the mix to give it more strength.
Gracias
thanks! i'm an architect and i make models both for personal works and for other architects, i never made molds because of the excessive price of mold silicones.. can't wait to try this
Good video. Thanks to the author! This method really works, I checked it myself. But there are a lot of little bubbles inside mold. The bubbles do not affect the quality of the cast gypsum. But I thing that it is not good, or is it normaly? Is there a method for manufacturing a monolithic gelatin mold without bubbles? I'm sorry for any errors, English is not my native language.
Thanks SO much! Do you think this will work for casting concrete? It can be very alkaline. I've been told to use sorbitol in the gelatin and glycerin mixture. Do you know what the sorbitol would do?
Puedo usar Smooth cast 320 o otras cosas ? You are smart !!!
hola i just love this but just asking where did you get the glycerine thing pls tell me i need it plz respond anyway gracias by the way i am from the Philippines salamat
could you not also use fiberglass resin to make your castings? or would that attack the mold material? i ask because you can get it in large quantities and many hardware and autoparts stores for a relatively small amount of money. much cheaper than finding an art supply and paying $25 for a quart of casting resin.
What's the best way to substitute the microwave? Just heat in a pan being careful not to boil? Or maybe put inside a can inside a bowl of boiled water? Thanks
I've tried this and it works amazingly well, but I am wanting to make a mold of an air dry clay piece I've sculpted, but I don't know if the clay will melt with the heat, or something like that. Also, I've put a couple coats of glossy mod-podge over it to seal the piece, which I'm not entirely sure, but would that seal the piece from heat.. or not? Thanks in advance :)
hi love your videos ,can you please tell what diid u use for making transparent medallion and soldier ......is it araldite???? ...i really need to know it for one of my project greetings from India Abhishek
The wax will melt the gelatine if the wax is hot. You may get away with a certain amount of casting if your wax is fairly cool. Even then you are likely to loose some detail.
I made this jelo mold and it does work! It copies fine details and it's very strong. I couldn't tear it to re-melt, had to use knife. The only problem is that mine is not pourable, it's a thick paste. How to make it like yours - liquidish & self-leveling? I made it just like you did - 50:50 gelatin & glycerin. Any secret to make it thinner?
Nice tutorial. I think this is better than corn starch plastic. To avoid the bubbles pour the mix just on one corner and let it run through the mold without moving it. A funny observation. Don't use your own stick. Kidding. Thanks a lot.
and how could i manage to make this molds? what I want to do, is lead miniatures for warhammer, that would be full body miniatures, not just half of it as I see it, it's hard to do
one can't use this type of molding with hot fillings, like, say, lead? can you recomend me best materials for molding and filling for miniature creation?
You are welcome. As the mold is Gelatin and the jello snacks are also gelatin, I would say you would have problems with the snacks mixture melting the gelatin mold. also separation of the two would also be a problem. Better would be to make a silicon mold.
My mixture absolutely will not solidify, I mixed and heat and repeated several times, in short intervals. I'm using generic brand gelatin (great value) it is the flavored kind but I didn't think that would matter, and I'm using glycerin that I bought at walmart, it's labeled as a skincare product made by Humco. But it says it's all natural. My mixture is kinda gritty but not clumpy, but at room temp its still a thick, semi-liquid. Whats going on?
Yes, but you will need a parting agent so that the parts will not stick. It is easier to cast as one piece, and then cut the gelatine off the original. You risk damaging the original when you cut though.
does anyone know if either glucose or gelatin would eat away at ink on plastic, acryllic or other fine paintwork? trying to mold something that i dont want to be damaged on the surface
+urjnlegend . It would depend on what kind of ink it is, and how well stuck it is to the surface of your object. In any case, I would suggest you do not take molds from anything you do not want damaged, as a general rule, for any kind of molding you do. Play it safe, and don't put precious things at risk, unless you really know what you are doing.
"Gelatine prosthetic" U can get the amount of glycerine wrong, if you dont wait for the water the jello first! u get your finished hardness once the water has left not before!
Hello, did you add anything to the mix before to get that skin colour? Thank you so much, it's a great tutorial!
Thank you for sharing this technique. It's really handy to mold and cast small parts on-the-fly. I substituted gelatin with agar-agar. Also you can add cornstarch to the mix to give it more strength.

This is great, I was looking for a simpler way to make a mold and this just hit the spot, your awesome. Thanks
thanks! i'm an architect and i make models both for personal works and for other architects, i never made molds because of the excessive price of mold silicones.. can't wait to try this

This would work better than silicone calk for my mold making attempts. Is this food grade gelatin?
Id say it is LouLou!
Cool technique. Good video, but I have no idea where I would get the materials used.
Hi thanks for your video.....very interesting.......one question please...can we use the mold for food?
50/50? But you added double the glycerin. What is the correct ratio?
Thanks SO much! Do you think this will work for casting concrete? It can be very alkaline. I've been told to use sorbitol in the gelatin and glycerin mixture. Do you know what the sorbitol would do?

Good morning, greetings, fantastic tutorials, does the glycerin can be used used to make soaps? Regards Carlos
if i want to have a mold with two halves what kind of mold release agent should i use?
se derrite al contacto con agua?
Where do you obtain this material? Does it work with molten pewter?
Can this be used to make molds of larger objects? And if you use say candle wax would it melt?
Can i use vegetable glycerin?
could you not also use fiberglass resin to make your castings? or would that attack the mold material?
i ask because you can get it in large quantities and many hardware and autoparts stores for a relatively small amount of money. much cheaper than finding an art supply and paying $25 for a quart of casting resin.
is it reusable when heated again

Can you try cement as a filler?
Due to the fact that it gelatine, how durable is it? How many uses can it withstand?
Does it work with silicone rubber?
Who is the man? You are. Thank you so much!

doesn't the heat from the resin , melt the mold?
Cool!. Can i put melted wax in the molds or they melt too?
The wax will melt the gelatine if the wax is hot. You may get away with a certain amount of casting if your wax is fairly cool. Even then you are likely to loose some detail.
Just glue for resin, and Jelly for rubber!! excellent.
can you use this with resin or will the heat mess up the mold?
I was just wondering, could I probably use aluminum foil to create a form for the mold? I dont have any plasticine.. ;)
You're the man Philip!
Can I use mineral oil?

where can i get some of the gelatine and glycerine?
your method is the best, easiest and super!
I'm having a problem with my gelatin mold, it's not as strenght as yours? How long should i heat up the gelatin with glycerine?
Thanks.
You only need to heat it till it melts. If it is weak, then you probably need to add more gelatine.
***** Thanks for your reply. Maybe I'll experiment with 1:2 ratio?
Nice tutorial. I think this is better than corn starch plastic. To avoid the bubbles pour the mix just on one corner and let it run through the mold without moving it. A funny observation. Don't use your own stick. Kidding. Thanks a lot.

as I see it, it's hard to do
Can you show the other toobs that you where using so we know what to go buy.
cup, stick, clay... improvise.
is this technique suitable for molding chocolate, which is molded at a temperature of about 85 farh degrees?
+francoise veron stamp . No, the jello will melt . :(
thanks. I suspected so.
can i use this for resin?
Genial! Que buenas ideas tienes!!
one can't use this type of molding with hot fillings, like, say, lead?
can you recomend me best materials for molding and filling for miniature creation?
Anders Games!
It will melt at high temp. Once I tried to place it under a 100w incandescent bulb about 3 feet below and it meled
The intro scared me xD Youre the man!
Hi and thanks for the info! Do you know if this mold would be OK to make edible Jell-O snacks? Thanks!!
You are welcome. As the mold is Gelatin and the jello snacks are also gelatin, I would say you would have problems with the snacks mixture melting the gelatin mold. also separation of the two would also be a problem. Better would be to make a silicon mold.
Please brada telme were i kane buy this stafe from thankyou veery mush
hola tambien sirve para moldear chocolate?
No, el chocolate va derretir la Gelatina.
gracias philip.
Can I make soaps miulds
Can it be used for food eg as chocolate mould
Chocolate is likely to melt the mold, as the chocolate will be hot when you melt it.
like easy cast or ice resin?
That's some really neat stuff!
That jello works to make masks?
So its just gelatine and glycerine? :D Must try this!
Could i use resin?
Holaa!!
Amazing! love your vids!

Where are you eat from?
Is it possible to make to part molds with this?
Yes, but you will need a parting agent so that the parts will not stick. It is easier to cast as one piece, and then cut the gelatine off the original. You risk damaging the original when you cut though.
Vaseline works for rtv silicone and silicone overall, do you think it would work here too?
Is there a vegetarian alternative for gealtin and can you subtitles for the video or a decrition?
you might try Agar which is a kind of gum they use for doing bacterial cultures in petri dishes with
Great vid!
Can I make reusable soap mold with this product?
no I do not think so. The soap when it is hot and mouldable, will melt the gelatine, and any water in the saop mixture will also dissolve the mold. :(
Drat! Thanks for your reply.
Maple Flagg
Sorry about that. I wish you the best. Maybe you could give silicone molds a go. Bathroom caulking silicone works.
Oh!!! Thanks, I never thought about bathroom silicone. I'll give that a try!
can we cast resin inside this mold sir ? thank you
Yes, I have cast resin in this kind of mold. :)
I'll try it then, thank so much
Where are you from?

If I have a question will you answer and helpme?
I would cast a 2 part polyurethane resin but it heats up
Video's great! Very useful, thanks! Am I right, you melted the nose and rest jello in microwave oven?
P.S. I'm from Russia, you speak really fast :)
+banji356 . Correct
I thought I heard a kiwi accent but I wasn't to sure, must be starting to mix with the Colombian accent :-) I'm also a kiwi ;-)
Good job
How long does it take to dry?
just as long as it takes to cool down. That depends on your climatic context.
mine's been in the fridge for a few hours and still soft
@PhilipStephens007 Thanks a lot for the information.
"Gelatine prosthetic" U can get the amount of glycerine wrong, if you dont wait for the water the jello first! u get your finished hardness once the water has left not before!
Hi Santa its the year 2021 and came across your video. Any gift for me this Christmas?😂😂😂
Put just a drop of acrylic color into the 2c glue andt it becomes ..
@PhilipStephens007 Thanks for the reply.
HOLY CRAP! so not expecting his nose to come off! hahahaha :P
