  • Demon Slayer's third season has recently concluded and to my own surprise I enjoyed it quite a bit, going as far as to say in comparison to the third season it was much better content present. Today I talk about my anime only thoughts and letting it all out as this is my final main video as the movie trilogy now approaches. Thanks for watching, your support and viewership is greatly appreciated.

@@zzzzzzzzz7551 There are very good parts of Swordsmith, but the biggest issue was the villains. They are so annoying and uninteresting, especially the main body of 4. I wished Zohakuten was the main body, he could have been a great villain.
Because we don't care about the villains, it also makes the action somewhat feel like a drag to get through. Especially the Upper 4 clones.
There are great scenes tho: Tanjiro Dragon Dance and Thunderbreathing, Muichiro with the mark, all Zohakuten scenes, Mitsuri fighting, Tanjiro killing Hantengu, all good shit. But the whole Upper 4 clone squabble was a bit annoying, and them chasing the main body for an episode, I almost lost it.
It just doesn't compare at all to Muzan and Rui as a villain in Season 1. Or Akaza in Mugen train (Enmu was eh, but he did put the characters in interesting situations). Or the Hashira (acting as foils to the main character) in the training arc. My favorite villains tho were Gyutaro and Daki; they were just so well set up, good backstory, and great fight all around.

i always assumed that Nezuko conquering the sun was like a divine boon of sorts? with how God/Buddha/the afterlife get referenced every now and again, especially following the deaths of every major character, and the terminal generational illness of the Uyabushiki clan being called a "curse from god", i kind of interpreted that Nezuko becoming a sun walker was a blessing gained for the final rejection of her demonic nature by doing the one thing a demon would never do, sacrificing their own life to save a human.

This arc was honestly a nice break from the rinse and repeat have a training montage fight a strong demon etc loop. I’m glad ufotable decided to give this arc more of a reason to exist other then a power up for the main characters. I actually was fine if this arc got stretched into 12 episodes because I enjoyed each episode, it wasn’t super action packed but seeing tanjiro actually train and hone his skills like back in s1 rather then just recover and fight another strong demon immediately after was great

In my opinion, one of the hottest Demon Slayer takes ever:
    Hashira Training > Mount Natagumo
    Hashira Training > Mugen Train
The Mugen Train arc is better than the Hashira Training arc in the manga, but the anime extended a LOT regarding Hashira Training arc. So much so that I care so much MORE about the characters. I know they're just basically filler episodes with a few plot relevancy, but it gives the characters more depth & let us know more regarding them, with extra screentime. Tengen having one of his last scenes in the entire series with him fighting everyone, Sanemi & Iguro fighting multiple demons with a scene of an Infinity Castle build-up (also, the background NPC characters actually slew some demons, which makes it even better knowing that they aren't truly just punching bags or human shields), Muichiro, Iguro & Sanemi having a spar (which made sense why their power in the final arcs MASSIVELY increased despite them being basically just teachers), Muzan having a short talk with Upper Rank 4 Nakime regarding the infiltration updates, Muzan confronting Kagaya having more scenes & dialogues, Muichiro & everyone flying paper airplanes in the sky (that scene was so underrated, I got goosebumps from that paper airplane scene because of how simple yet wholesomely powerful that was), ect. The crazy thing is that none of these scenes didn't even happen in the manga, but it increased my love & connection for the characters so much more. With that being said, this is such an overhated arc, I love it so much.

    • @MrDragonorp

tho prolem with the first ep of hashira training is that sanemi and iguro didnt notify anyone about the castle that they saw. like yeah I dont expect you to notice eveyrthing. but you saw teleportation infront of you and it seems like a major thing to debate and reveal to the others. i get that there is the original manga. but if you look at the anime at face value, you need the scenes to make sense in their own right. and not revealing that they just saw like this giant sprawling unending place instead of just a rundown small castle, it should alarm them far more.
I didnt read the manga also so no spoilers. waiting for the trilogy to happen dont wanna be spoiled like with invinicible or solo leveling that I couldnt wait to finish anime to watch it

Hashira training is enjoyable because they fill us informations and vibes in the demon slayer corp. The hashiras, the slayers, the training, the interaction they have.
but Swordsmith is more of a message trynna convey on how strong the slayer mark is, to give us the idea of the power scaling between slayers and upper demons. Plus a key to the end game (bcs of nezuko's transformation) giving muzan a reason to attack.

The only thing I disagree about was your opinion of Nezuko conquering the sun. Thematically it makes sense.
She hasn't eaten a single human now. And at the most crucial moment, when Tanjiro is torn between saving her or saving the swordsmiths, Nezuko finally regains her agency and makes a choice. She chooses to burn herself in the sun so her brother can save the swordsmiths. And that is rewarded with her being able to stand in sunlight.
This is made even better by the fact that Nezuko had always been dragged along. She could never speak, she could never express herseld. The one time she did when she went against Daki, she almost lost control. In this arc, she took back that control and gained freedom from Muzan

So for the whole thing with Nezuko, the whole “she consumed the blue spider lily as a child!” is a complete headcanon with no backing by the manga or the garbage fanbooks (which is what people point too to explain why she conquered the sun), it’s just a headcanon that people created to patch the massive plot hole.
HT in the manga is also 8 chapters so being able to create like 2 new episodes out of thin air was quite impressive, however to me this arc fails because all of the training Tanjiro and the other slayers do is mostly something they would learn in the final arc, so it fails on the execution of the training. Plus the fact Kagaya and Amane both agree to murder their first two children really shows how screwed up the family is but that gets glossed over for well the Infinity Castle lol.

Ya, I think this is one of my biggest gripes of Demon Slayer (I'm Anime Only btw). What made me get into the anime was the lore of the Blood Demon Art and how Nezuko was able to gain control as a demon and not hurt humans, but seeing how that goes unexplained multiple times is very disappointing.

@@Quincy25 Ufotable as a studio doesn't have a narrator so most of the explanation in the manga wasn't translated since they prefer showing to saying.
An Example is It was narrated in Chapter 52 (s1 Episode 26) of the manga, that Muzan can read and control the mind of any demon he shared his blood with, but Nezuko has broken the spell, because after the Exploding Blood/ s1 Hinokami Kagura, Muzan can't read her mind, and this is also the reason why he slaughters all the lower moon not just Rui dying.
(This was a premonition of what Nezuko was actually trying to do which is conquering the sun)
Another is in S2 Episode 6/13, Layered Memories, (Chapter 82) Where Tanjiro forgot to breath. It was explained in the manga that his strength came from his anger. But as a human, he has 2 limits, (Physical Limit and when you pass physical you burn the life force-a premonition also what the demon slayer mark needs). But since Nezuko is a demon these limits doesn't apply to her that why her strength became that of Upper Moon)
Now when you watch the anime and haven't read the manga You're like "How the hell did Tanjiro became Super Saiyan All of the sudden??" But in context, he was burning away his life force which was why his dead sister warned him.
power up in demon slayer isn't free because they are at the end of the day just humans.
In S3, Ep11, Tamayo wrote to Tanjiro that Nezuko's blood is continously changing and that she believes Nezuko is prioritzing beating Muzan's blood, and becoming human/ Conquering the sun as a prerequisite. The Man in Asakusa (S1, E7, when Muzan scratched him to distract Tanjiro) has regained his senses when Tamayo used Nezuko's blood on him (Muzan lost control) and can only live with few blood. It culminates in this last episode that acoording to Tamayo she has perfected the medicine to turn demons back to humans. (We don't know if it will work as of yet)
I don't think it was Gotouge's fault that impt expositions like this weren't included in the anime. Even Natsuki Hanae, encourages watchers to read the manga as he knows that sime expositions weren't included.
      I still love Ufotable though

i liked this season, but you need to notice something.
demon slayer is a story about trauma. it is the horrifying reality of random death personified in the demons. and every character ive seen, ive seen parallels in behavior with people i know irl.
im adopted, a lot of my ex-friends are, and i hang around people with heavy childhood trauma a lot. demon slayer is sometimes uncanny with its realism in displaying simply how it feels, and how people might act because of that. its a bunch of children daydreaming about changing fate, because they cant comprehend their loved ones randomly being gone.
    edit 1:
note, i do not know if this is confirmed by the author, this is simply my interpretation. however, this interpretation fits so perfectly well sometimes that i cant help but believe its at least there subconsciously, if not a conscious choice by the author. so, yknow, take this with some salt.

(Don't worry, I will not say any spoilers), but as a manga reader, I really loved what the anime did to this arc. For context, from swordsmith village until the end, due to many family/personal issues, the author had to rush everything to the big finale. So, I am so happy they developed the hashira training arc even more. For context, hashira training is only 12 chapters, and since Ufotable adapts chapters at a much faster pace, this arc would realistically be around 4-6 episodes. The main point of this arc is simply to gain a better reinforcement/understanding of characters' goals and ideals to ensure later moments hit different. The anime even added extra context which actually fixed certain issues with the manga!

Hantengu was a coward and so his focus was just staying hidden and letting the other's do the killing. Gyokko's personality was a bad one and ultimately led to his downfall. So every demon was different and every hashira was different. Besides, the hashiras were there to get their swords fixed, the attack was impromptu. Hashira Training arc doesn't really feel like an arc either, to me. More so it's just a quick buildup for the final arc(s) - much like the final episodes in season 1 leading up to Mugen Train and Entertainment District. And i liked it, especially with how satisfying and epic the final two episodes were.
I personally didn't care for Swordsmith Village at all. The dynamic tension was way off and super disjointed, and it felt very rushed. By the time the final two episodes came out, i felt like we were barely halfway through pace wise.
And all of the power ups and character progression was so forced through flashbacks, which isn't something new, but it was just overabundant in S3, and didn't do anything for me, regarding the characters that was supposed to progress, like Tokito and Mitsuri. Going in to S4, i didn't care at all about them based off what we got from them in S3, which is a shame. I cared about as much about them as i did any of the other Hashira i knew nothing about.

I feel like swordsmith village gets judged really unfairly due to it coming after season 2 because season 2 was a point of climax. It asked and answered a huge question. Is there even a chance that these upper moons are beatable and can it be achieved by what we already have.
Where as season 3 is actually more about chadacter building and development. In particular for the side characters. The fights with the moons arent the point. Its _meant_ to be more relaxed. An exhale after an anxious hold. In a way its almost a fake out, the story trying to sooth us by saying "hey, this is doable" after a season and a movie of nothing but pain and so much suffering. Even if it did end up ok in the second season. But anyone who read the manga knows that it is very much not and it wont hit as hard without this set up. The same way the last ep of season 4 wouldnt have hit as hard without all the set up throughout the season. The fact that it was so 'easy' to beat the 2 moons with the mark is meant to lull you into a false sense of security. That is the point
DS is the kind of story that plays the long game so judging each arc individually feels incomplete and a bit unfair. I've yet to see someone talk about all the seasons cohesively, and instead, all everyone wants to do is compare them when thats not the point. Its also not how story telling works

@@YozakuraSensei I’m not saying you can’t judge the seasons separately but it’s unfortunately all I see people do. Especially most essayists/reviewers on TH-cam. There’s obviously nothing wrong with voicing one’s opinion but it’s become an exhausting repetitive one. Like I said, I have yet to actually see someone talk about the whole series all together as a cohesive narrative. Manga has a unique difference to a story telling medium like books where they rarely have a long gap between each arc so it’s easier as a manga reader to read the whole thing as one story. It’s also easier for readers to keep track of details and reduces the risk of confusing the audience which the anime tends to do because by the time season 3 rolls out most people have forgotten important details in the previous seasons. Characters get reduced to memes and stereotypes because that’s what people remember the most. It’s why there’s so many people accusing Nezuko of being an empty chekovs gun when she has had a solid personal story and development from the beginning. But all people remember is that she’s cute and she beats demons on the regular. It’s frustrating.
