If you notice right before the end, he looks like he's huffing and puffing and saying to himself "how long is this damned song anyways?". Still keeps right on the beat though. Props.
The technical incident with the guitar was metal as fuck to be honest. Mikael just growls like a demon like if nothing happened, it's quickly fixed, and the comeback of the guitar is badass (4:57). It's part of the song for me now.
@@Barqu3ntine am urging you to watching the lotus eater in the same event to check out seamless problem fixation (listen to the song without watch then see it again)! They are soooo god damn professionals
Is it true that that this song was inspired by an incident where Mikeal Alkerfieldt split his glass of milk, which made him become outraged that he had nothing to dunk his cookies in, he started writing this song?
This is possibly Opeth’s best concert in my opinion. His growls were consistently strong, and his clean vocals were chiming. The vocals towards the end give me goosebumps nearly every time
Roundhouse and Lamentations are so much better. I dont get why people think he is good here?! Everything is off and its clearly leading into his "I dont care about gutturals phase". Its not terrible here, but its not good either.
I cant believe that mikael could go through this whole concert. The entire BWP plus their most brutal songs ever like wreath the moor. the hardest marathon he had done probably
Awesome setlist, Dirge for November, Forest of October, The Moor, and Wreath, have been songs i always wanted on a good video with great quality. Really my favorites. i just hate the way they jump 100000 times the camera images. not even 5 seconds in a row, whish we could´ve watched some solos.
Lopez was extremely hit and miss -- he was far less technical than Axe. When Lopez hit his groove he was hard to beat I agree but he also has a super hard time keeping tempo and some of his live double bass work on the earlier stuff like white cluster and god head lament is fucking awful.
Couldn’t agree more. Axe is a better musician than Lopez in every way. The Lopez lovers must not be drummers or have any musical training to disagree with that.

This song is a goddamn masterpiece Edit: I love how much fun Mikael ostensibly has just rocking the fuck out. The part at 1:53 is one of my top five Opeth riffs of all time and he looks so happy playing it
Except for Mikael's problem with the guitar and except for the blast beat at the end I would think they used the album version as playback. INCREDIBLY done!
Axe can play anything off Deliverance to a tee! He's no Lopez, who (for me) symbolises the zenith of creativity and technicality in a drummer, but he [Axe] is a superb death metal drummer in his own right ... And his drumming on 'Harvest' from the same Albert Hall concert is a jazzy sensation, to say the least! \m/
Magnífico, personificación de la desolación, desarrollos de los requintos de guitarra tan evolutivos, ambiente sublime y oscuro, this song is cold, cool and called Wreath from Deliverance!
They definitely need to play this more often. For the love I bear Deliverance the 4 other tracks on the album are gold as well. Axe is such a fucking beast live (studio as well) on all of their catalogue and he wasn't in the band on the 8 albums pretty much everyone considers the best. He's definitely not having any live struggles like I feel Lopez had on the 4 heavy songs on Lamentations.
I think studiowise the classic lineup (Mikael, Peter, Martin and Martin (& Per)) hit their musical peak with Deliverance/Damnation. I'd say Blackwater park is still the best of their 6 records though, but I think musically D&D are just a notch above the rest, if not in songwriting. The new Opeth (Mikael, Martin, Axe, Fredrik and Joakim (& Per)) hit that point in their lineup with In cauda venenum, both musically and songwriting wise. Of course it's not as mindblowing as what they used to do up to 10 years ago, because what they're doing now kinda existed in the 70s already and what they did in the first 15 years was never seen before. I'd go as far as saying that if they did some good old prog death record it might be nearly as good as Blackwater park or Deliverance. But that is a question for the future and right now I'd love it very much if they just went further into the ICV direction, just more of what makes it special. Talking live I thinke there is not much to discuss. Perfect. I think Axe is way more stable on the heavy stuff than Martin was.
Moustafa Elgebaly Nope. It died. If it wasn't the case, why Mikael would change the guitar? Even John Petrucci has experienced that (a dead guitar in the middle of a song, Under A Glass Moon at Score. He just changed the guitar and dubbed the missing parts in studio). TheAskald Dimebag is the exception that confirms the rule. And if you won't have a second guitarist, make sure that, or you're a fucking guitar God, or that you have an ungodly awesome keyboardist...
I think Lopez was more of a metal drummer, and a highly creative one, but as far as my taste for drumming goes Axenrot is the superior one. He has evolved a lot lately, can pull of mindblowing jazz styled beats and is overall more interesting to hear than Lopez. just check out Pale Communion if you doubt me, absolutely divine drumming
I can't imagine having the energy to do blast beats at the end of this 11-minute song, Axenrot is a machine.
The real machine is Martin López
Yonaiker Galan Lopez no

His growls were a lot better on Roundhouse Tapes, but his cleans weren't as good as on here
His cleans have only gotten better with age. This era of his growls were not good in my opinion. He has even addressed this fact.
Under the weeping moon on roundhouse is amazing.
Roundhouse and Lamentations are so much better. I dont get why people think he is good here?! Everything is off and its clearly leading into his "I dont care about gutturals phase". Its not terrible here, but its not good either.
Like he is straining so hard at times, just trying to keep the growl locked in. His highs are ok, but that is much easier to do

perfection. Brutifull, really no other words to explain this phenomenal performance... They are some lucky motherfuckers to be in there for that...
Love the addition of the blast beat.
*Axnrot at the end with blastbeat* ""oh wait... This is Opeth no Bloodbath.... 😅👌""
Those octave melodies haunt my dreams...
I fucking LOVE the blast at the end of this. Axe is a goddamned beast. Lopez was great, but Axe is next level, and he's so consistent.
Careful... Lopez was borderline unique.
Axe plays everything slower and that truly sucks. He also can't replicate all the drum details of those songs.
Lopez was extremely hit and miss -- he was far less technical than Axe. When Lopez hit his groove he was hard to beat I agree but he also has a super hard time keeping tempo and some of his live double bass work on the earlier stuff like white cluster and god head lament is fucking awful.

Falling inside again
This nightmare always the same
Still never enough
Halting at the brink of discovery
Moving into the darkness
Leaking inside to cover up
Dragging me down and under
Entangled and undone at once
Old memories
I'm not in need but wish to know
What are the tragedies
The history behind the walls
Pacing further down
Familiar children's laughter
Dissonant and out of time
And their eyes are dead
Watching myself in a pool of water
Wearing the mask of a ghost
Smeared all across my skin
Rotten earth and insects
Endless night
Always preserving the calm
Movement behind
Bleeding animals in a field of fire
There is no absolution
Death is but a fairytale
They are mere visions
They are afraid of me
Clear insight
A smoke is rising nearby
Dust covering my coat
Blend together to spell my name
Pale, covered me with sweat
There are no words left
Sole provider of death
Distorted faith in myself
Human harvest burning
Blackest pages turning
Twisted perception come true
Captured in dreams connected
Staring right back
Spiritual decay - Still seeking
Frozen in time
Mourn this departure - All watching
Calling me back
Closure to bleak matters - I'm leaving
End of a search
Coming of morning
Calling me back
Closure to bleak matters - I'm leaving
End of a search
Coming of morning - Returning
