What a lovely looking car. So light and airy. I think I'm in love with it! I have always liked Heralds and their derivatives. But the estate really appeals. I reckon you've got a good one there. You'll have it fixed in no time!
The thing with the Herald is you need to watch ⌚ the rear bumper where it is attached, they tend to rust out & drop their bumper 😮 That indicator end has seen too much sun 😢 Looks like the car is looking up with your talents 😊
Get your gear change rebuild kit from Canley Classics. They’re the only ones who supply them with well pressed steel parts that won’t disintegrate within 5 mins! The headlamp trims fix on with a little screw on the lower side, if it turns out you don’t have the missing one I’m pretty sure I’ve got one you can have for postage (it won’t be the best, I inherited someone’s second best trim parts, but better than nothing!)
@@Alexsassets ah, well the big thing to watch out for is the two cup washers that go at the very top of the mechanism. Often one is steel and one nylon, and the steel ones don’t always have smooth edges resulting in them chewing up the nylon part.
Yes the round knob with the fan like symbol is the original Triumph choke knob. If the carb is running severely rich check that the rubber diaphragm is not torn. If it is, it will course very rich running.
I had a one owner from new 1971 Herald estate, that I purchased in 1998 until 2001, when I was stupid to swap for a Rover 2000TC, which was a money pit. Wish I still owned it today. Fitted twin SUs and replacement seats and replacement clutch. It was hilarious, when I first saw it for sale, my friend found it very funny when I opened the bonnet.
Joining me with a Triumph now, I very much approve!! I've got a set of them embellishers if you want them? With the gear lever, there's a rebuild kit you can get from Moss Europe, or have a word with Pete Cox and Son, they know me very well. Need a pair of SU's of that car, I may have a set spare too 👍
It's not too bad ... a few bits need attention, but overall, a nice oily rag project 👌... mine ended up as a dog house at the bottom of the back garden.. it may even be still there. we moved, and I wasn't taking it with me that's for sure 😆
Before you use this, lubricate the bottom front suspension swivels. They are a threaded trunnion like a Morris Minor. Replacements are hard to get and expensive. I think you use EP90 not grease.
Well, I do rather like it. Nothing too troubling eh? I do like the fact that you got really easy access to the engine in these. Gearstick is a bit whacky!
Absolutely love this car when I was in London at Polytechnic my friend had one and it was great. Please first dibs if you decide to sell PUN on, seriously! My sister always wanted a Herald and it would mean so much. Good luck, looks like a cracking car
Chances are that had a Solex carb originally and the Stromberg is an aftermarket fit. You could replace with an SU (or a pair of twins on a new manifold) but further research would be needed on needle sizes to get the most out of it (them). Are you sure you haven't got some space left on the drive for a couple more vehicles? Your sounding a lot better since the back issue occurred.

Ah Remy is so romantic. These cars are very easy to work on and spares are plentiful. It will bring you both a lot of fun.

Not bad at all. The estates are rare survivors and worth quite a bit, even if it's got little bits round the edges
When I wanted a car my first interest was the Herald, sadly could not find a good one, so seen Wolsley 1500 and fell in love as a second choice

You do not use grease in the front trunnions, it must be EP90 Gear Oil, GL-4, never GL-5
Yep, oil Triumph trunnions, never grease 👍

Nice sound
Nice thing about a herald is you can remove the gearbox and replace the clutch all from inside the car 😂
It's a nice car that!
I loved my Herald Estate
I bet that would be a great car for putting a toolbox or 2 in the back
So ...er... what did you pay for it. If ya font mind me asking. It looks pretty straight.
Lots of bits to tinker with there Alex and I hear there is a good parts supply fot Heralds. Will you be fitting a set of Blockly tyres at some point?
Tyres are fine at the moment

Originally there was no servo on the Heralds. You just have to anticipate the road & press hard if you need to stop quick ....😂
😬😬😬
Set the brakes up right with proper asbestos pads they’ll be fine… no need for a servo on these ! My 1992 Fiat Panda never had one either…
That needs to be dry stored and properly rustproofed its wont last long kept outdoors
