I think this may be good info, but I can’t really understand it. It would be nice if you labeled the locks old and new. Have you replaced an old style pull up lock with a new lock that doesn’t necessarily require that the handle is pulled up to lock it? And if so, does it fit perfectly in the old door? Seems like a huge improvement in design but your video needs a little backstory for those of us who are not lock experts.

I apologize that the video isn't clear enough. yes, the newer model does not require the handle to be pulled upwards to lock the door. yes, the newer unit fits perfectly into the old door. the end of the video shows the new mechanism in my old door. I am demonstrating how the handle doesn't have to be raised to allow the door to be locked. I did this so that I could install an automated lock for this door, by the way.

Where did you get your new part?

My handle on my older model..suddenly started sagging and not springing back... can this be fixed? Or do I have to replace the entire mechanism?

one of my other andersen doors did this same thing. a spring must have broken. if you figure out how to fix it without replacing the mechanism, i'd appreciate that info. :)

I have the same problem and just pulled the mechanism out. Doesn’t look I can get into it to fix the spring. Planning to order a new one.

the final part of the video (after the voiceover ends) demonstrates how the A-series Latch works, after installed. It is installed into a 400-series door in this case.

so what do you do when it's stuck in the locked position? the top and bottom mechanisms are deployed and the handle will not turn. Frustrating that you can't even take off the hinges to even get to the lock

I have the same problem, did you find a solution?

Ya…. The Anderson repair person had to chisel and break the locking ears(not easy) just to get it open. Then installed a whole new lock strip. Took them 4 hours and a lot of frustration

Could you tell me the model # for the A-series mechanism? It's exactly what I need.

I just replaced mine: My 400 series lock mechanism has part number 2579771 stampted on it, and the A series I just replaced it with is part 9014687 (no modifications needed to make it work). I hated the way on the 400 series you had to lift the handle to throw the dead bolt - it confused guests when they tried to open it to let our dog out. Now it's easy peasy for everyone to lock and unlock.

the model number is: 2579771-3P. but there are many different sizes of locks. i'd just look at the number on your mechanism by simply opening the door and reading it from next to the deadbolt. then, i'd suggest looking for the same model for an A-Series door. I expect you could do so on the Andersen website and then buy it elsewhere for less.

My 400 series the handle won’t stay in the level position though normally sit position it falls down and stays there and sometimes it will hang up when you’re trying to latch the door lock it so I’m going to take mine apart today and see what the Hells going on I mean it’s metal and springs it should be something you can repair rather than Anderson wanted me to buy the whole lock assembly for 400 bucks😍

Did you fix this problem of the "sagging" door handle?
