    I appreciate you guys being honest with your disclaimer about rescues being rare for the Navy AWS/AWR community.
    I feel like the reason we’ve had such a low retention rate for first tour crewmen for so long is because the Navy has been very misleading about the nature of the job. If they were more concise and upfront like you all were, I doubt we’d have so many people getting burnt out and disgruntled thinking they were going to be doing a lot more than the job entails.

      @@peytonthedude745 : Yes, EOD School is very challenging academically. Many people have said that EOD School is the 2nd most academically challenging schools in the Navy (for enlisted sailors); the 1st one being the Nuke School. All of the studying materials are not allowed outside of the school house and there is a mandatory study every night.
      In order to keep your dive qual. up-to-date, you must dive, at least, 8 times a year (the policies may have changed, since my time).
      I was in the Navy during the 2000's, so I did not get to dive that much, just enough to keep my qual. As far as deployments go, I got deployed quite a bit, because there were 2 major wars during that time period. Besides A'Stan & Iraq, I also got deployed to a few countries such as Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Djibouti, Italy, Spain. I also did one long deployment to South America.

    The same way Corpsman are HMs first, and operators second. There are many rates in the Navy that can become Spec ops capable and attached to teams for their skillset. Naval Special Warfare Command is made up of so much more than just SEALs and SWCCs. Something I wasn't aware of until I joined. There's a lot of bad ass operators in the Navy who never wore a Trident. Its not the only way. Many jobs in the Navy also have opportunities to go to a selection for NSW, SERE school, CQB training, jump school, dive school, everything needed to be attached to SOF component.

    While in USN boot camp, the SEALs came in and tried to recruit and while I thought it would be cool, I wasn't sure of my abilities at that time. Immediately after that, EOD came in and did the same. Now that seemed like something I could really go for and I went and talked to them. They asked me what my ASVAB score was, I told them 99. They asked what my last PRT score was, I told them excellent-high (not the highest you could get but still good). They asked if I was colorblind, I said no. Then they asked what I was there to do, and I told them I was there to be a nuke.
    His direct response quote was "go away, I can't talk to you." I asked what was up and he said you have to fail at being a nuke before they will let you do anything else.

    I was in the Army, so I usually route for, teams like Delta,SF,75th Ranger Reg. But Seals are badass,esp Devgru. But if I had my choice, and was able 2 do anything, In the military. I would love 2 be a AF CCT, outta the 24th STS. Cuz those guys, and the PJs,SR,and some TACPs, have 2 be able 2 be ready 2 join,and other tier 1 unit, 2 go on missions with, but outta all the AFSOC, I think the CCTs, have the greatest job. They are able, 2 be with Devgru on 1 mission, then the next mission, they are with Delta Force. But that is a job, that I new I would of loved 2 be apart of, but the AF, you have 2 have really great scores on your ASVAB test, just 2 get in the AF, and thats not even being able 2 get any job you want. The Army was alot different, and I atleast got 2 get the job I wanted,which was Infantry, and then got chances 2 go 2 different schools.

    Is it true that trying to go for a navy seal contract is way more difficult if you are already in the navy compared to a civilian going straight from the street?

    • @optrdocksidebars7106
      @optrdocksidebars7106 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. The overwhelming majority of SEAL (or really any of the NSW/NSO challenge careers for that matter) candidates come straight in from being civilians.
      While fleet returnees going through those pipelines are not uncommon, it’s a lot more difficult to submit a package to attend those pipelines once you’re already in a Navy rating, and a lot of times you can find yourself unable to convert period due to rating constraints and manning requirements.
      Your best bet will always to get a contract through the Warrior Challenge Program if you’re serious about any of the programs listed in the video. Otherwise you are going to be waiting a few years more than likely before you’ll get a chance to drop a package.

    • @smesa_fit
      @smesa_fit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@optrdocksidebars7106 what if I sign for a regular mos, finish my contract and then I reenlist going for that navy seal contract, would it get the same chances compared to someone who comes straight off the street? Or because I have prior service would be harder?

    • @optrdocksidebars7106
      @optrdocksidebars7106 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@smesa_fit It’s possible, but your best chances are just to try to get an SO contract through the Warrior Challenge Program which will guarantee you a slot at BUD/S after you finish the other phases of training. Otherwise you’re basically gambling with availability of slots and conversion packages.

    • @smesa_fit

      @@optrdocksidebars7106 man i got a last question, what if I join the army as infantry and after a year or 2 (when I get my citizenship, because I am a green card holder and for seals you need to be citizen) I try out for navy seals, I have heard that people from other branches can apply to go for seal program. Or do you think it would be easier to apply being in the navy with other MOS

    • @optrdocksidebars7106
      @optrdocksidebars7106 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@smesa_fit That’s no longer an option, and it certainly was never for the Army. The Coast Guard for a period had a process where you could apply for SEAL training but that hasn’t been the case for many years now and only a handful of guys actually did it.
      If you join any other branch with the intent of becoming a SEAL, you will have to wait until your contract is over and then apply to join the Navy as a prior service candidate and apply for a SEAL contract like that.
      It’s really not worth going any other avenue if SEAL is your goal. Otherwise you’re waiting several years at a minimum to just do an even more elongated process.

      For the most part, no. USMC does not have any of its own medical personnel. You can join the Marines, then "try" to transfer to the Navy and try to become a corpsman (and SARC), but it will not be easy to do.

    • @BlueJayWaters
      @BlueJayWaters 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can transfer laterally from the USMC to Navy, but getting re-rated to go to Corpschool can be difficult depending on what your MOS was. And from their, getting a SARC billet will probably take one to two duty stations to get a packet going, and by that time you already may be forced into a C-school specialty outside SARC. And you have to be on point with your medical skills, and your physical fitness the whole time.
      It's a longshot, but there was a MARSOC Marine who transferred after his 6 years to the Navy after a Doc saved him and his bestfriends life during a tour in Iraq. He vowed to become one of us and honor that Docs legacy for his sacrifice. I graduated before knowing what happened to him, but I heard he was top of his class and chose SARC as his specialty school on his dreamsheet. And usually if you graduate top of your class, you get a pretty big say in where you go after Corpschool. So, good luck if you try!

    Why don't you make a video on the day to day life of being in the Military? Even those high speed units have put their time in. You make it seem so hardcore, glamorous and so much badassery. How many of these high speed hereos actually do the whole stretch? How many actually put their twenty in for full retirement?. I might not have been so high speed and low drag, but I retired and did my twenty, I am what you call a '17%'.
