We need to listen such singing to remind us how great TMS/PBS were...seriously, if these two are great singers as some folks here make them out to be, why are they faking and spoiling this golden oldie instead of coming out with something of their own! Have to wash my ears with dettol and listen to the original another 10 times to forget this!
After listening to this performance, I realize what great singers TMS and PBS were. Shankar Mahadevan has proved that he is just INCAPABLE of singing a truly melodious song.. He can at best sing songs where you have to scream your guts out!! As for Hariharan his voice is so tinny.. Despite being such professional singers, they are so much out of Shruti at so many places. This perhaps proves the point that though these compositions were made to look very simple by the sheer genius of singers like TMS and PBS, they are really difficult compositions even for Hari and Shankar to sing. Hari should get his eyes checked and change his specs, because even with specs on he is not able to read the script!!!
if MSV might have been there at the stage, he might have tapped them on their face to teach this song even better. But no luck. Atleast MSV was able to tap their shoulders. Great Show!
I have listened more than 100 times this song... Wowwwwww Hariharan Sir and Shankar Mahadevan Sir!!!! Little bit mistakes are there but I never mind.... Because people may listened more than 1000 times of the original one But this improvisation is mesmerizing... Could have special taste to hear this version.... I don't want to blame any one here because their taste were different.... But they must want to know that they should not expect the same as original from everyone...

There is nothing wrong in improvisation. But what is important is pronouncing the words correctly. I find these two have not shown enough seriousness in ensuring that. Some words were forgotten and some times doubts came in between. But their voice is sweet and blends well. But Shankar should understand that while singing the line 'vinnodum vilayadum' should be sung in clear High pitch with perfection as 'vin' means sky and the Great composer MSV kept the high pitch note to make that impact.I hope people will understand the importance of the lyric as MSV blends the word musically which is his unique quality.
Both r absolutely superb singer ...but When they choose to sing a legends song they should know proper lyrics ... Other wise it will look like this performance ...
Seeing most of the negative comments. What is wrong with some spontaneous improvisation? If you didn't like it, it doesn't mean experimentation is wrong. Obviously they chose this song because of its iconic quality and popularity. Just reproducing the original is one thing. Adding their improv touches is expected from these two modern day legends who are the two most qualified (after Yesudas and SPB) to sing this. I'm sure, if they were asked to reproduce and rerecord the song in a studio, they would (almost) match the original. But this is live performance. OK to improvise. That said, i do like the original more 😍
