Thank you for this video very helpful. Copying production tables to my development environment that have bit fields. This will trigger errors about the table being locked by another user even though I'm the only one accessing the development database. The fix for that error is to ensure that a default (0) is set on all bit fields. Another problem I had was when copying a table from one server to another server the identity specification would be lost on the primary key so that you couldn't add new records. The only way I was able to fix this was to create the table on the server and use Python to read in the old table which had no identity set on the primary key and repopulate the new table.
Hi, thank you Richard for all the effort that you are doing, i have this message that is "There isn't enough free memory to update the display. Close unneeded programs and try again." it apears after some time (about 30 minutes ) after opening my database, i have to restart the database
Hi. Even I faced error 3113 a lot of times when I was in my previous company. Sometimes Compact and Repair was able to fix my issue and sometimes it did not. That's when I across some information that said I need permission to be able to read the information which is granted by the DBA. Thanks for this great video!
Hey Richard! I downloaded MS ACCESS on my laptop and when I opened it an error occurred saying "you must start Microsoft Access by double clicking a Microsoft Access file, or by running MS ACCESS from a command prompt with a database specified." Please help me out in this
I've never seen that message before. I recommend installing Microsoft 365 directly from: www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/buy/compare-all-microsoft-365-products
Thank you. I have Office 2019 and it is working well. But I have a strange behavior in the query searching for something. Sometimes I get Syntax error.... and the dialogue box opens, and I cannot close it by pressing ok or the X button, then I have to long press the Esc key and the error message box is deleted. Then I highlight the wrong syntax text and delete it. Now the field is blank, but as soon as I start typing something, the error box comes with the first letter of what I am typing. I found that if I click in different column in the query then go back to the first column and I start typing, things go well. When I delete the syntax field, I tried the Backspace and delete buttons, same result. Any idea? Thank you.
Hi. Thank you for all of your amazing videos. They have been very helpful to me. My question is this: I type in the wrong information into a field by accident and hit the tab to go to the next field. I then get, "The value you entered isn't valid for this field." You would think you could click "okay," and it would go back to the field and let me correct the mistake. Instead, the box does not go away no matter if I click the "okay" or the "x"... The only thing that will get me out of this is to shut down the program and restart it, losing all that I was working on. Is there a way to get out of this loop without shutting down? I can send you a picture if you need to see what I see. I really appreciate any help you can provide.
@Computer Learning Zone Thank you. I hit escape, the X, okay, enter key, backspace... I even tried to exit the program. The only thing that worked was..cntrl+alt+delete and shut down the task manager. It's so bizarre.
Hi. I would like to ask for your opinion regarding error trapping procedures on Form level. For example if i want to prevent duplicates in the X field in a table, should i mark it as an index with no duplicates and and handle Form Error event, or should i make my own check before data saved to the database?
That's up to you. If you're OK with the system generated error messages that Access provides, then use an index. If you want a custom message, create your own event.
Sir, I got the following issue.Pease help, General Reading error: The Microsoft Access database engine cannot find the input table or query 'Frame Assignments - Summary'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly
I am working in a database with multiple tables. I am using combo boxes to bring information in from other tables into one form. I have two instances where the information updates other fields in the form based on information in another table and while the information fills in correctly i keep receiving the following error. "you cannot add or change a record because a related record is required in table name". I have used the same process for the code building on both of the instances and while one updates correctly (if i remove the non working one) the other one refuses to work. I have checked the relationships and spelling in both table. Any ideas? Thank you
Without seeing what you've got, it's hard to tell what's wrong. If you're one of my students, post this in the Forum with some screenshots: 599cd.com/AF

Hello sir , I have this error "There is no object in this control" when i link my Excel sheet. i went to the external data select excel sheet, select link data source option , browse my sheet then boom this error pops up. please answer this. Thanks Regards, Hassaan
Hey I would like ask a quick question and hopefully you can answer it. I watched you video because I keep getting the error message "The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add" when I attempt to import data from an excel file in order to create a new file. I have some short text entries of data sets and I have uploaded this very same data before without this issue but I now have this message pop up everytime. I am not a running query, and I'm not copying and pasting anything so I am at a loss. I hope you can help, thanks in advance!
That's not a very quick question. LOL. I'd have to see the database and the data you're importing to tell you for sure, but try importing the data into a NEW table. Then you can use queries to move the data over to the existing tables. This should get around any field size restrictions.
Hello, can you please help with this message? “The Microsoft Office Access database engine cannot open or write to the file ''. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view and write its data.” Two people were given the same access file one was able to open it (have access to the database), but the other was not! The person kept getting the message above. Thank you,
Interesting. Make sure you've got the latest updates for Office installed. There was a bug similar to this a little while back. See 599cd.com/Trouble too.
The issue solved by giving permission to that person to access the folder where the database is. I mean the issue is security issue. Thank you so much for all the videos and the help that you provide.
I get this message: "Your network access was interrupted. To continue, close the database and then open it again." I closed Access, and restarted my computer several times and I still can't open a file. Help!
If you make a relationship "in error," for example you specify two fields that shouldn't be related, then just delete that relationship and start over. Click on the join line. Delete.
Sorry, but based on the information you've given me, I really don't have enough data to help you. Feel free to submit your question with more details (including screen shots) here: 599cd.com/TH-cam-Submit-Question

Lesson learned: not always uninstalling and reinstalling will fix the issues. Live Long and Prosper my friend... Maurice.
Wow. Yeah, you're absolutely correct. Some 3rd party applications MAY replace the DLL files that Microsoft Office needs to run correctly. Usually PROPERLY WRITTEN software from real companies won't cause problems, but I have run into some crappy Shareware apps that have done this before. I'm going to add this to the troubleshooting checklist. Hopefully your words of wisdom may benefit others and save them some hair pulling. :)
