This strikes a chord with me. Gaming kept me out of a lot of trouble. When I was in high school, there were plenty of nights where I opted to play games over running the streets doing God knows what. I'm so thankful that that I was blessed enough to have an outlet like xbox 360 to keep me busy, entertained, and connected with some of my best friends.

First off, Thank You for serving for this country. Thank you Shake. Sharing your story like this means a lot. I find a lot of what you went through I have as well. I would consider some of my best friends gamers and some I've never met. Good to hear you coming up in life and willing to look past and get through the struggle. Times can be hard, but if your are a strong person like yourself, you will make it.
    Thank you again and RESPECT.

Word Shake. Growing up, my mom bought me video games and a new computer every now and then instead of fancy clothes and shoes so I would have something to do when she was working late in the cab. Gaming definitely helped my household. So glad you made this video.

I grew up as an only child.. single moms etc. I was a jock just like you. all i did was track and field and basketball and gaming. It kept me out of trouble while my friends were getting locked or dead. Most of them never saw 19 and im 23 now. a lot of the people that im close with now come from similar backgrounds. I'm proud to be a gamer.

Gaming has helped me alot. I grew up about 3 blocks away from the zoes in miami. aka Zoe Pound. They recrutied me alot. Mainly cause I was white. And police officers have looked at me and then looked over at my haitian neighbors and searched them for drugs, guns, etc. I just stood and watched. They didnt even think about me possibliy doing that because im white. But gaming has really kept me off the streets. And even though Im 19 now and go to Miami University, every now and then I hear about ones of my childhood friends being locked up. Its a shame. Good guys, many of them just tryna help their families. Just glad I made it out. Also, love your videos Shake! Keep up the good work- btw alot of Zoe Pound gangters watch your vids lol give em a shout out!

Great video man. I can relate to you when you said gaming helped keep you off the streets. I'm growing up in a very happy place and that is because I made the right decisions around drink and drugs and stuff like that and the fact that gaming was a part of my life was definitely a part of that. I go to school/work during the day and I play basketball in my spare time. In the dark. Rather than going partying and drinking, I can stay in a safe place and socialise with people while building up skills like logic and hand eye co ordination. Thank you for making this video because it allowed me to look at the more positive things in my life right now.

Great video Shake, I definitely started gaming to avoid bs. I lost some homies and have people in jail. Only child so my moms kept me close growing up. To me this was a great "cheap" way to have fun without hurting anyone. My wife used to trip on me at first until she realized "Hey he's actually here and not out there" Once again great video homie!

ya, im still only 13 years old, but i can say gaming has been something that has definitley kept me out of trouble, especially from living in the inner city. WHile my parents have complained about playing games too much sometimes, mostly with my younger brother, its been a pretty positive thing in my life

This video made my night 100% better because i feel like gaming for me throughout my life was a type of outlit that let me play with friends that i knew in person and that i just made online. I grew up with alot of negative influences from people who normally i was close with except when it came to doing things that i was taught was bad life decisions. It was hard to hang out with them when all everyone wants to do is smoke, drink, and have sex. Dont get me wrong i've done my share of bad choices and honestly gaming was my escape from reality when i so desperatly needed it. So shake great vid like always and keep up the amazing work you do bro cuz i watch you all the time and your vids always keep me occupied.

Great video Shake. Definately feel you on this topic. Gaming kept me and some close friends out of trouble growing up. Instead of doing stupid stuff that would lead to a destructive lifestyle we would meet at my house or another friends house and get some gaming on. Still good friends with them today.

I'm a retired professional DJ and club promoter that now chooses to stay home (on the weekends) bonding together with my daughters through gaming. The educational, entertainment and joy I have with my daughters with gaming, is just amazing.
Without gaming I'm sure I would be spending a whole lot more time outside my home looking for other forms of excitement. Its gaming that keeps me safe and off the streets, allowing me to spend quality time with my twins.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts in your video, oh and I plan on sharing this what those that tell me I need to grow up!

I love this Shake. It's real. I share some similarities. Gaming was huge to me and definitely helped me avoid the dangers of the street. I grew up in the worst of hoods in the Chi (Roseland) but gaming definitely allowed me and my bro find other outlets. I'm getting my daughter involved with gaming and it's one of her hobbies. She tries to record like me (she's not like her old man yet) lol. But I respect this to the fullest.

when I was in middle school I used to get home at 3:30 and play until 9:30 when I went to bed, that was probably the best thing for me my mom always wanted me to go out and socialize so my junior year I didn't play video games and I went out and started smoking weed and parting a lot and then I finally realized that I would just end up a burn out so then I started being a homebody again and got into 2k a lot

When my parents apartment was broken into my Nintendo was stolen. We found it who it was and it resulted in to street violence. Lesson learned was don't invite random people in your house and bust they ass in Double Dribble. My people found out who it was, beat him up and brought my Nintendo back. Obviously this happened way before online gaming, lol. And thanks to online gaming TODAY, I can whoop peoples ass in gaming from Atlanta to Moscow, lol. without worrying about my shit getting stolen. Lol. ShakeDown2012

I don't no if gaming itself kept me out of trouble because i was a home body (didn't want to go anywhere, preferred to stay home and hang with fam around the house), but i can say that my love for gaming kept me on the right track. i was always was decent better than decent at school, i made the honor society, but gaming gave me the extra incentive to keep it up because i really didn't care for school. Thanks to my parents if i didn't get the grades gaming would put aside and i didn't want that to happen. My love for gaming and the discipline from my parents helped me keep it up in school instead of shutdown when i wanted too.

Shake this is some great advice towrds how gaming and getting into sports can really change your life and its future to come along because the road many will challenge you to do something you know is wrong but might want to try and get addicted which is not a nice picture to what you wqnt to live up to for your family and even yourself in how others might look at you to become. When you told your wife you would rather drive the most low class car and have a roof ova your head than live in the hood for yor kids is such a good thought to know you dont want your kids to go throught the mess and hard obsticles you had to face. I love watching your videos keep uploading you moviate me and i learn more from watching one of the best

It is ABSOLUTELY worth the time. Don't let childhood/teenage distractions redirect you from the big picture. In the world today, your education is the only thing no one can take from you. In this country, every level of schooling increases your education therefore increasing your quality of life. You will have a family to call your own one day & you'll want to provide a much higher quality of life for them. Stay in school Gadiel.
