I love Victorian architecture specially the houses and the train stations I can only imagine life in that house with servants and the reverend and the cotton mills
What a lovely building, cherry tree house, beautiful architecture, going back so many years, and interesting history at the same time. Sad story of little Margaret 😢 may she R.I.P. Poor parents to experience the loss of a child was probably devastating for them. Thanks Chris and Vicky for another interesting video.
what a wonderful building this is chris and vicki hope it will be saved as they say the dont build em like this . and in the church yard you both all most trip over poor little Margaret thank you both for the wonderful story love to all from trev and christine down south x
I remember seeing some photos online months ago and always wondered who owned it and who once lived there so just thought I'd do some digging. It's been a week since I contacted the civic society but as of yet not heard anything back 🫤 I'm hoping praying beyond hope they do get back to us and maybe find a way to allow us inside.
I hope so to, and rather than demolish it or change it which may result in it losing its appeal, I just hope it can be brought back to life but as it once looked back in the 1800s.
@@DaysofHorror must be someone who will allow access, wven of it stirs up interest for a potential buyer! Imagine being able to have the money to restore that building?!
Hi Josh. Thanks for getting in touch. The building is an amazing structure. It's got everything from outside appearances. I've tried getting in touch with people with a view to recording the interior but no one ever replies. We wouldn't be their to trash or vandalise the place, but to simply document it's history. I've also found it strange how no family, as far as I'm aware, don't actually own it now?
I'm josh`s mum my in laws owned this house for many years it was an amazing place and this is terribly sad to see it in this state thank you for doing this.
I hate seeing these old buildings like this as they hold so many interesting stories as well as happy and sad memories. It would be fantastic to be able to get inside and film a short video but it's just impossible to contact anyone now. The civic trust tried to take it on but red tape prevented them from doing so. Mind you, that was at the time we went to look at it so it may have changed hands since.
It's a hidden gem alright. I'd seen photos on the internet but wanted to see it in person. There's loads more I'm hoping to visit before they are either sold and made in private property or worse still, demolished to make way for horrible, soulless and stale buildings.
How sad about Margaret Emily and her heartbroken father and mother. Such a shame a beautiful building going to waste. I can only think that when it was put up for sale it was still an expensive project. Is there still an owner registered? Regarding empty spaces in graveyards, it was most likely that the families of the deceased could not afford a headstone. My paternal great grandparents are buried in Darwen Cemetery without a stone.
I thought about this after filming, but we noticed an old wooden small cross in the cemetery where a grave is. This will in time obviously rot away in time and the poor soul under ground will be forgotten, perhaps forever, and it will be another plot of land where no identification can be found. It must be something that maybe happened to a lot of the poorer people back in the day too.
I get why there was a block on the purchase of the house for apartments, but then they have let it fall into ruin anyway! It's a crying shame! It's a beautiful building.
We would have loved to have got inside but all doors where firmly locked and all windows secured. We never break into places like this but we have reached out to the society mentioned in the video with the hope they can help. If they can, we will definately go back for a follow up video.
Nice video 👍 such a shame that this beautiful old building is going to waste, if its was renovated it would clearly last longer than any modern rubbish but unfortunately you see it way to often. Sad story as well about little Margaret, would like to see inside but as you say, not the right thing to do. 👍
We have reached out to the society in the hope they may be able to help with gaining access and if they can help, a follow up video will definately be made 👍
We found a couple of strange images when looking back at the photos of this place we took when we were there. I think someone was in the building. A squatter perhaps?
It looks even better close up. The camera doesnt really do any justice to the place. Im just hoping that I can get permission to have a peep inside but Im waiting for a reply.
I walk past this house every day and all ways wonder what it's history is and now I know..I will walk up to it tomorrow and have a look thankyou for doing this video.
If you get up close to it and by any chance a door is open or you notice a way inside, please let us know as the one thing we really wanted and still want to do, is full video of what it looks like on the inside. We have contacted people, the council etc, but no one ever replies 🫤
@stebishopnomad1838 Cheers Ste. From all accounts, I think the house is partly owned or looked after by the heritage 'centre' ? I emailed them last year about possibly having a look inside but I got no response. From what I see, it's like the place is being left to ruin which is very sad. It's looks an amazing building full of history.
Hi, and thanks for commenting. I see what you mean, so Ive taken out the part in the description where this building is. People can easily find it though with hardly any effort but for peace of mind, I've taken it out. It's a pity we have to do this, but I guess some people just don't appreciate the history these buildings have.
We only need to look at Horncliffe Mansion I guess to see what these idiots can do. No respect at all to these wonderful buildings. I should have given more thought to naming where the building is but lesson now learnt 👍
I think that building looks wonderful. It is still standing proud. It just needs a water jet treatment on the outside which will quickly eradicate the gloomy look. But the inside probable needs a lot of work to update it and make it safe. Yip. If buildings are left empty for any period of time you do need a Holy exorcist to walk through and clear it. Demons/Jin do like to stay in abandoned buildings and unfortunately mediums and paranormal investigators tend to do siances and ouija boards there which invites a lot of dark paranormal entities in onto the property and they make the property their territory and will fight anyone who tries to move in. But if I were well healed I would certainly entertain the thought about taking over the property if the area and its amenities were in line with what my needs and wishes were. The added bonus is that it is free standing with a good space to develop it for my needs such as a garage, small garden etc. Thank you for sharing this with us.
This building we would love to gain access to and have a look around. It just seems to be being ignored, which is a shame. It's a grand building that so easily could be given new life too. Unless, of course, there is something amiss that we know nothing about.
@@DaysofHorror Possibly. I have heard about buildings which were thought to be abandoned but the families still owned the properties and were hoping to be able to renovate them and either sell them or take up residence again but somehow the idea falls through the cracks, and nothing gets done. I have even seen footage of abandoned buildings with extremely high value articles in them. On one of the videos there was even a painting by John Constable which would earn hundreds of thousands of pounds. I warned the person doing this investigation that if they saw paintings in an abandoned building not to mention the name of the painter and to contact (incognito if needs be) the National Monuments Council and inform them of such an article which should be removed from the property and put into trust for the owners or their family. The strange sad thing is that if that painting had to be sold by the owners or the relatives the money raised could have been used to renovate the not so derelict building. But despite the hate of the French language by the British there is a very good idiom which they use which is "c'est la vie" Thats life. Sigh. Or like the song by Doris Day " Que Sera Sera, What Will Be Will Be".
Hi Allan. We emailed the Rossendale Civic Trust just after recording this video and we were told something on the lines of the building being in the hands of Rossendale Council, but, who we would need to contact there we could never find out. Even the Trust said it was nigh impossible to find anyone who would be able to help in trying to enter into this fabulous building. Also, the Trust had at that time applied to take over ownership of the house but had been unsuccessful. So basically, the house stands alone with no-one taking any responsibilty for it which is a shame. I might actually go back and see if there may be a way in now. Perhaps a door might be loose or a window being accessible? Might be worth a look.
I'm not sure if Rossendale Council own it or the Rossendale Civic Society. It might be neither, but we have contacted the society in the hope they can shed more light on the place.

A great find Chris, Cherry Tree House definitely belongs in some Horror movies. A really sad tail of young Margaret RIP

What a building! They don't make them like they used to. Would make the best film set for a horror film too.
I'd love to gain access mate. Just to see what hides in the shadows and to see what the basement looks like. Apparently it's massive down there!

@tracybridge8935 last info we had, Rossendale council had it. But it's one of those which we couldn't find anyone there to contact.

Up close it's even more astounding. I don't think videos ever do buildings such as the one in this story any justice 🫤
