The biggest problem with ds2 is that you have to get that one stat that governs the I frames when you roll up to like 25 before you can dodge properly. If you up that stat first then focus on the others it will change your play through drastically.
I started and did not touch adp at all, I somehow beat the game, but damn did it suck sometimes to roll(Didn’t make me have much hate towards the game at least). Level adp early, made the difference on my second play through.
See, I dont really agree with that. I played through the game amd did the dlcs without touching ADP once. And not once did I feel like I truly needed it to prosper. (Obviously it'd make for an easier time, but it didn't feel necessary)
It's not a problem, it's designed that way intentionally so you can't have a character that's just good at everything early. You can't dump points into being tanky, having damage, and being able to dodge everything. You have to prioritize rather than being just given invincibility.

DS2 has grown on me over time. I still dont like how every enemy encounter is just a gank in a really awkward enviornment. But it really stands out as its own style of souls game. And I really like how lonely the game feels.
If DS2 enemy encounter are all Ganks, then ds1, ds3 and bloodborne are literal gangbangs. And don't get me started on Elden Ring. This excuse has been used way too much and it's literally blaming ds2 for something that they actually didn't change from ds1. Come on, seriously guys?
Your channel is really under rated. I legit think your channel just needs that magic algorithm boost and you would blow up. Either way I’m loving the souls content
Of all From Software games I have played DS2 is the only one I didn't finish. The reason for this is simple, I felt like FS had a brainstorming session after finishing DS1 around "what can we do to make DS better" and then they had 1 billion different ideas and could not exclude any of them and just added all without considering which would work well together. I got bored and gave up after finding my twentieth enormous boss that insta-killed me with blunt force trauma after running around trying desperately to find some humanity so that I would not have 1 hp. However, I will acknowledge that I had some of the most awesome Dark Souls moments in DS2 so it was not all bad.
I never touched this game from it's reputation alone, bought it last month on sale and its stopped me playing Elden Ring. The sheer amount of builds and depth is insane. Even bare fists is viable. Sure the gank can be cruel but you won't fall for the same shit twice. Fantastic game with a unfair reputation.
Dark Souls 2 had its problems on release, which SOTFS fixed the vast majority of - but the deep truth is that most of the flak this game catches is because it's not Dark Souls 1: Again If it had a different brand name, it probably wouldn't have the rep it does
@@spideyfan1024 My dude, I was there for both games pre-release and launch; I still remember the gamefaqs board getting clogged on DsII opening day with awful takes about it not being DsI. What you said is true in that Ds3 gets a lot of complaints for aping a lot from the first game, but that doesn't mean that the complaints about DsII didn't happen, just that the bigger a series community gets, the more schizo it can act, which holds true to this day even *today* you can go on the Dks2 or 3 reddits to talk about those games and you will still see these complaints for them
Its decent, it has some huge problems and flaws, but also has some great moments, and amazing dlc, Majula(BEST HUB), some really good characters, a few great bosses, pretty good pvp, best fashion souls. 7.5/10, just my opinion though. Also, Amber Herb only run when?!?!?!!?!!??!!!?!!?
Gonna be completely honest here ds2 is neither a bad nor good game it’s just meh in my opinion like a 6/10 by itself but when compared to the other souls it’s like a 4/10 for me but it’s still worth a few playthroughs so like overall it’s 5/10 and if anyone says it’s complete dogshit or that its perfect and are unwavering with those opinions they’re probably just not worth the conversation I’ve certainly dealt with a few of those people both irl and online they’ve all been pretty bad experiences
It's not perfect, it is riddled with issues like all of from's games (each has it's own collection) but I do confidently think it is by far the best game they put out of this style.
I really hope sumo gesture is still there. That gesture alongside with modded havel or ported it to elden Ring as secret gesture would make it as best game ever.
I always spoke well about how there aren't any I-frames in the game and how that caused a different approach to combat. Imagine my face when people told me years later that ADP gives you more I-frames. This was unironically my first souls game and I've always stayed just baserly outside of range, weaving in and out instead of rolling in Souls games ever since.
There's some meme stuff like ADP and Soul Memory the actual gameplay isn't nearly as bad as people say. Though there's definitely severe flaws like every Souls game
I love dark souls 2 and it's the main game I return to, I'm not sure what it is but there's just something different about 2 which always draws me back and always gets me to play it again. If any of the souls games gets the blue point treatment going forward I hope it's ds2 thought ds1 would still be appreciated man imagine these games looking like their cinematic openings.
On God Id be squeeling if bluepoint picked this up. I love this game for its sheer magic selection. Things like Soul Vortex and the entirety of the Hex category just make me super happy as a magic lover.
DS2 will go down as the most over-hated game in recent history. It definitely has things worth criticizing, but it’s still better than most AAA games that came out in its time. I have and will always love DS2.
Its nowhere near as hated as many claim, if you want the most overhated game this isnt it, go look at something like TLOU2(Not saying its amazing), I will say Ds2 is the most criticized for sure, but majority do not hate it. Also, does not help that those who dont like it and fans of ds2 are so vocal they drown out most criticism or praise, or take it as an idiot praising trash or an idiot hating on pure gold. Anyways, I must say ds2 is a solid 7.5/10 for me, and from what I see that is pretty average. Though I will say its dlc did totally outshine the game, and its levels sometimes reminded me of Ds1’s later half, still it has many great moments, great pvp, amazing build variety, and some classic bosses that are memorable and fun. I will say it definitely is better than a lot of AAA games, but then again not to high of a bar lately these past couple years.
DS2 was the first fromsoft game I played (elden ring is the second) and it is one of my most played games on steam. It’s far from perfect but it felt like a solid starting point because the combat was slow giving me enough time to really learn ever enemy. It’s a solid game, it’s not as good as the other ones from what I have seen, but it is still a very solid game.
The only gripe and I mean the only gripe I've ever had with this game is the hitboxes sometimes messing up the spacing with enemies or players, its literally always like one inch farther than how far you think you are to hit something.
My favorite Souls game; too many good memories to count. Fun PvP and co-op (RIP PC servers), and a lot of fun and viable build options to mess around with.
@@BlackBeardedDuck i mean; it WAS. First souls game to implement a way to get around the whole soul memory system with a ring slot item. As for it being fun; well, just watch Happy Souls. PC got borked thanks to the servers getting taken down. Namco Bandai also seems reluctant to even fix the online for the first 3 souls games either. So if you wanna play with buddies; stick to console. If we're lucky; once development for Elden Ring's DLC and patches wraps up, they may take a look at the problem. Maybe. . . who knows with Bamco.
I mean he's not that hard of a boss fight to begin with. I think the cheese strat is you count him taking 7 steps towards you and then just go around his shield side and he'll lunge off.
I beat most of DS2 (besides Eluem Loyce) truly blind, and spent like 300 hours on one character back when I was on Xbox. One of my favorite games of all time, even if some aspects are infuriating.
Skumnut, just recently got into watching your channel, and happy to see you're liking DS2. Now you gotta get that Chicken Leg club in the Iron King DLC
So far i'm on Undead Crypt with a pure str build, my toughts are that the maps are beautiful but sometimes empty for its size, the bosses so far have been so easy that some of them don't feel like major bosses at all, also the combat against enemies is really fun and i feel really inspired to try other builds.
Man, I love this game, you can play this as messed up as you want, and as long as you put effort, is viable, I beat the entire game without armor or weapons(and without ADP, but that is because the translation team put RES as the abbreviation in my language, so i thought it was resistance, and ignored, because I didn't want to waste points in defense when I am naked anyway), and I'm usually average to bad in those games, I also beat the bosses in a other save powerstancing the 2 great shields from undead crypt, I remember being 1 shot by the giant lord when I was farming him, and asking myself "how the hell I avoid this attack?" Then I remember that shields can be used to defend ...then I fight him without the lock on, and it was way easier to see and avoid his attacks.
It was the first one I played and I honestly don't get the hate for it, I agree it's probably the shittiest of them all but it's hardly the worst game ever or anything.
I’m always scared to say this, but I personally love ds2, now I didn’t always feel that way, it took a couple play throughs to understand that you have to play 2 different from the others, if you play the same way you play 1 and 3 you’re gonna have a bad time, at least in my experience Also yea the run to chariot and the fight itself is awful, I beat it on my first play through and I’ve skipped it everytime afterward cause of how much fun I didn’t have
Ds2 is hated for being a good sequel. And by that I mean it's hated because it added and changed things to not make it just a copy of Ds1 just like Ds3 and Elden Ring did
@A Realky Bad Gamer. Its hated by a smaller group because it has pretty bad mechanics, its buggier than the rest often, has some terribly designed levels, and many mediocre and bad bosses. Still its positives make it decent, but its not the perfect sequel you are treating it as, especially since your only defende is ds1 and ER have some reused assets, but when you think or it ds2 is just ds1 with a twist of no Gwyn at the end, it even also reuses assets like the other games do, that is FromSoftwares thing, and ER is really not Ds1, it’s similar in really basic plot points for a few, but changes a lot quickly, then goes back into ds1 a bit with someone burning themselves, then goes and does what ds2 did and branches off but in a different way. Think about it, all of them are ds1, even Sekiro and Bloodborne are ds1. Also, hate is rooted in a reason often times, never because your w of everyone hating ds2, most of us like the game even, or think its ok, its that any criticism is taken as toxic idiotic hate. A small group truly hate the game, saying its hated for being a good sequel is like saying the Star Wars Sequel trilogy is hated for being great, its not, its hated for being a sequel that betrays its core fanbase, but with ds2 it didnt want that, the creators were going to give us a better product, but 2 years got taken off development, along with them being forced to launch on at the time last gen aka ps3 and 360 instead of ps4 and xbox one. But hey, got to be the heroic white knight in your basement I guess, defending a game and hating all who criticize it, and yes it is a good game, and yes you should have your own opinion, but the line is drawn at making crap up and spewing literal lies.
ds2 has to be played more like an rpg than the others, stats are a lot more important in 2 i agree, hence why the sl1 run for this game is so painful, it is my favorite dark souls game and probably my favorite game of all time
When I played ds2 I tried to make Guts and there was a fire gernade spell I was trying to get for his arm cannon and I lost the spell but pulling a random lever. Only way to get the spell is to replay the game in ng+ and that was the last time I played ds2. That was years ago.

Dark Souls 2 was my first dip into the Soulsborne series. Ah, I still remember the time I didnt know my Cleric could two hand the mace, and instead ran around punching Hollows with my chime instead.
Game is fine. I started playing it 3 days ago (long time souls veteran) and I am having fun (till Elden ring DLC). I shouldn’t have stayed so many years away from it due to bad ratings. I find it being better than DS1. While it is a bit incoherent and bit empty at times, it is overall a pretty packed souls experience but it lacks the Miyazaki factor for sure.
Dark Souls 2 is my favorite Dark Souls. I think it tells a better story, and has far more interesting armor and weapon combos. Its wayy more fun with friends and every environment has color and flavor!
It is 100% the worst souls game..but In no way is it a bad game at all, I think people need to understand how high the bar is at fromsoft, this game was developed by the Bteam while the A team worked on bloodborne and you know what I enjoy the shit out of ds2, I think it's a great game at the bottom of a list of other great games. If that makes sense 😅
Dark souls 2 was easily the most fun I’ve had playing through a dark souls game with a friend. Whenever we finished the game we genuinely had no idea why it was so hated
DS2 is the worst Fromsoft game, but that still makes it one of the greatest games of the past decade. The pvp was some of the most fun I've had in any videogame.

most of the hate I have for ds2 comes from the extremely cancer ds2 subreddit rather than the actual game, and as for the actual game im just dissapointed because I know how good the game could've been if development wasnt such a shitshow
It's the (second?) best and the worst at the same time. Best or second best multi-player (depending on where you rank the first Dark Souls). I spent ungodly hours hunting other players down all across the world, using all sorts of goofy troll builds and such. Back then, invading was great because there was so much variety. You never knew what you were gonna get. And damage wasn't so high that you had to 1-shot other players to succeed. I also loved getting invaded because, again, so much more variety when 1-shot capability isn't mandatory to pull W's. And co-op is good too, of course, though for me that gets boring pretty fast. But as a strictly single-player game, it was by far the worst of Souls, BB, Sekiro, and Elden Ring.
@@minecraftmaster12245 idk man Soul Memory sounds pretty f*cked up to me. None of the trilogy are perfect but letting hosts be invaded by higher level players AND not being able to summon because your friend bought some arrows? Sheesh

Ds2 was the first dark souls game I ever played, it's what made me fell in love with from software and tho the game does have it problems, it will always have a special place in my heart
I played DS2 around the start of it's release, so i didn't see much hate and loved it since, my main weapon in vanilla was Mundane Santiers spear when it was broken
I really frickin want a DS2 Remaster. I think it would be fucking amazing if they could rework the world DS2 created, and help alleviate some of the issues it had.
DS2 is the weakest game in the series but it's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be and i still enjoy playing it every now and then although i do think that a lot of stuff they changed and added in the Scholar version is just annoying bullshit.
My first dark souls experience was me and my cousin playing his copy of ds1. We didn't really use any guides and eventually made our way into the depths. Eventually we found the gaping dragon, who disintegrated our drake sword (the only good weapon we had). We then realized we needed to get back to the surface to Andre. Unfortunately we fell into the pit of basilisks and got cursed with half life. After a few attempts with no good weapon and only half hp, we realized this playthrough was absolutely trashed. I think he sold the game after that lol. In comparison, I don't think dark souls 2 ever sets you up for that bad of a failure.
You know damn well that last part is not true. Iron keep run to smelter is case and point how ds2 sets you up for failure. All that shit you mentioned in ds1 was preventable
@@ameshizen381 technically all deaths in all dark souls are preventable. So your point is a bit moot. Iron keep knights are comparable to Anor Londo knights and painting guardians that are put in areas with high potential for gravity deaths. There's plenty of annoying areas in all dark souls games.
Dark souls 2 is clunky, sure, but let's be honest it's not that much worse in terms of gameplay from dark souls 1, it's much too overhated. The story alone is absolutely fucking brilliant and is in my opinion better than ds1 and ds3
Ah dark souls 2, fans did consider it harder than one but over the years it’s been laughed at for not having the “soul” that made DS1 good, then bloodborne and 3 came along and blew it out the water, scholar of the first sin is basically what I consider is the definitive DS2, not just DLC’s but enemy, npc placements, still have a soft spot for it
Tried this game and went in with low expectations because I heard people call it janky and boring. And after a few hours I just felt it, they were completely right. Dsrk souls 1 feels better to play
I got the platinum for this game somehow, guess it's cause I hate myself. Nowadays I can't stand it at all, from time to time I start asking myself "Why not play DS2? It's not that bad and the DLCs are nice" then I will try it for 30 minutes and quit...
I don't wanna put the first game down or anything but it's honestly the only game in the trilogy I can't go back to. It's not that I haven't tried, I just can't stay interested long enough to complete a second run of the game. But Dark Souls 2 has this unique atmosphere that invites me back every so often and I can't say no. And Dark Souls 3 is just fucking epic.
Dark Souls 2 is a displease. A let down. A sadness. When I play it, I feel dejected. I feel as if I asked 10 girls out on a date, and all of them rejected me harshly in front of their friends. When I play Dark Souls 2, I feel sorrow. The game had so much potential. Even the lore was exciting, and hearing about the large amount of bosses thrilled me. But once I turned on the game, EVERYTHING went wrong. Everything. There is no reason for me to list the same things people have been listing in the past over and over and over and OVER and OVER AND OVER again. Because there is no single thing that is bad about Dark Souls 2. Everything is bad collectively. I believe some greater, esoteric forces of evil conspired to create the shittiest game ever, yet successfully convince the majority that it is the player's fault for losing, that he just needs to "get good" or "learn how to play". This is why we kill people. This is why humans have the freedom to murder: Because if other people are so stupid that they cause physical pain and mental anguish to others, they must be exterminated, killed, tortured over months, and then watch their own family burn on a stake before they die. I feel unbearable discontent. It's as if I'm on a heroin withdrawal, and I'm chained, and if I scream, I will die. I have regressed 5 years in the past as well as shortened 27 years of my lifespan by playing the game. I'm afraid that overnight my hair will turn grey from excessive stress and existential crisis that I receive every time I think about the game, let alone open it. This so-called "game" is not a game. It is an undiagnosed mental illness, and must be updated whenever they plan on releasing the DSM-6 for mental diagnoses. No, no use. This is too formal for a game that is utter trash. It would be like discussing the average man, when in reality, he isn't deserving of discussion. He needs to be left astray in a desert to die. FromSoftware is officially the most unsatisfying, immature, disappointing company full of lumbtard pieces of shit who do nothing but eat sausage with mustard every day and deepthroating them like cucks when their wife is away. And that is how I will remember dark souls 2: as a sausage in some beta cuck's throat.
Playing it for the 1st time now. This is by far the worst Dark Souls. It feels more like a chore than entertainment. The Hollow mechanic taken from Demons Souls doesn't work well. The enemy gank squads are annoying. Looking like a straight up zombie is aesthetically displeasing. The agility stat is a game killer. Sick and tired of taking hits in the middle of my dodge roll. Despawning enemies disallows farming. Dark Souls 2 is straight up awful. I put it off bc everyone said it was the worst, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyways & complete my collection. I wish I had listened & saved my $.
The first one is strange to me because everything before talking to the queen is incredible. Afterwards the second half of the game is unbearable, a first full playthrough is worth it but sheesh

@@areallybadgamer3042 imo the ganks are more annoying in ds2, you may feel differently
Yeah I think in ways I like it better than DS3. Like DS3 was more about the boss fights and DS2 is more about the journey than the destination.

13:58 that door is a shortcut. you can jump from the ledge in the other side to there.
Dark Souls 2 had its problems on release, which SOTFS fixed the vast majority of - but the deep truth is that most of the flak this game catches is because it's not Dark Souls 1: Again
If it had a different brand name, it probably wouldn't have the rep it does
@@DistributionMackerel that doesn't make any sense since people literally criticize DS3 for being too much like DS1
@@spideyfan1024 My dude, I was there for both games pre-release and launch; I still remember the gamefaqs board getting clogged on DsII opening day with awful takes about it not being DsI. What you said is true in that Ds3 gets a lot of complaints for aping a lot from the first game, but that doesn't mean that the complaints about DsII didn't happen, just that the bigger a series community gets, the more schizo it can act, which holds true to this day

It doesn't have huge problems. It has minor problems and a few changes which the fans of the previous game can't handle.
Hello Mr Winks. Glad to see some gentlemen in this comment section.
Can confirm. Just because you like something doesn’t mean it’s perfect, and just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s garbage.
Krispy Kreme gives free doughnuts when the red light is on
DS2 will go down as the most over-hated game in recent history.
I will say it definitely is better than a lot of AAA games, but then again not to high of a bar lately these past couple years.
it really isn't. It deserved a lot of the criticism it received. maybe not all of it but most of it.
It's the most hated dark souls game.
It was also nominated game the year it was released. I am shocked dragon age Inquisition won. But ds2 is no sloucher. It earned its awards.
@@toledochristianmatthew9919 Yeah Inquisition winning is still the most confusing GOTY pick of all time
DS2 was the first fromsoft game I played (elden ring is the second) and it is one of my most played games on steam.
How can co-op be good if we can’t properly play with friends
@@BlackBeardedDuck i mean; it WAS. First souls game to implement a way to get around the whole soul memory system with a ring slot item. As for it being fun; well, just watch Happy Souls.
PC got borked thanks to the servers getting taken down. Namco Bandai also seems reluctant to even fix the online for the first 3 souls games either. So if you wanna play with buddies; stick to console. If we're lucky; once development for Elden Ring's DLC and patches wraps up, they may take a look at the problem. Maybe. . . who knows with Bamco.

DS2 was my first Souls game so it has a special place in my heart
Man, I love this game, you can play this as messed up as you want, and as long as you put effort, is viable, I beat the entire game without armor or weapons(and without ADP, but that is because the translation team put RES as the abbreviation in my language, so i thought it was resistance, and ignored, because I didn't want to waste points in defense when I am naked anyway), and I'm usually average to bad in those games, I also beat the bosses in a other save powerstancing the 2 great shields from undead crypt, I remember being 1 shot by the giant lord when I was farming him, and asking myself "how the hell I avoid this attack?" Then I remember that shields can be used to defend
...then I fight him without the lock on, and it was way easier to see and avoid his attacks.
One day, skum will surely play this again. maybe not, but one day.
It would be a Christmas miracle
It was the first one I played and I honestly don't get the hate for it, I agree it's probably the shittiest of them all but it's hardly the worst game ever or anything.

I’m always scared to say this, but I personally love ds2, now I didn’t always feel that way, it took a couple play throughs to understand that you have to play 2 different from the others, if you play the same way you play 1 and 3 you’re gonna have a bad time, at least in my experience
Also yea the run to chariot and the fight itself is awful, I beat it on my first play through and I’ve skipped it everytime afterward cause of how much fun I didn’t have
Ds2 is hated for being a good sequel. And by that I mean it's hated because it added and changed things to not make it just a copy of Ds1 just like Ds3 and Elden Ring did
@@areallybadgamer3042 i hope this is a joke, its hated cause it has really shitty mechanics and poor design choices
I love how they make it obvious they don't want you to have the same playstyle from the first game just by watching how the enemies attack you
@A Realky Bad Gamer.

OMG ur BK lol! Incredibly funny to watch - 100% you are the game journalist of DS2
It is in fact superior, because more great swords have the amazing unique two handed r1 moveset. The one with all the flashy blade movements.
When i first tried ds2 i though it was terrible with the hitboxes and such, but when you level ADP to 20-38 the game is a million times easier
7:35 maybe this game could use an easy mode...
As a standalone Game? No. As a member of the Souls family? Yes.
Glad I discovered your channel bro
Should we tell him about the Shrine of Amana?
I thought the first one was the worst.
ds2 gets way more hate lol
The first one is strange to me because everything before talking to the queen is incredible. Afterwards the second half of the game is unbearable, a first full playthrough is worth it but sheesh
