Hands down the most beautiful Subaru road car of all time, most certainly a bucket list car and it reminds me very much of one of my all time hero’s the late great Colin McRae

It isn't the fastest, newest or most expensive car I own, but it just puts a smile on your face. It is such a good all rounder.

I'm a massive Subaru fan. This is so great to see. I really hope we have a shop similar to this one, in the US. I used to have a red 91' Loyale wagon with a 5 speed I bought in northern Michigan. I had a friend a few years ago who had a silver Impreza. I never forgot the ride in it. Thank you.
Such a timeless body shape with the wide body, I never get tired of looking at them. Seems like a massive bargain for 100k compared to the originals and you can use it without stressing to much.
The sound of the engine revving short moments in each gear reminded me of late night street racing. Those guys let the clutch take the hit by moving the foot sideways with the engine on the limiter. I'd love to have a spirited drive in one of those recreations.

I'll always remember the day my Dad turned up at home with an unmarked police Turbo 2000 Impreza around 1994/1995 and took me and my brother for a bleg, it was by far the quickest thing I'd ever been in! He worked motorway so used to come home in all kinds of cool stuff, Senator 24v, ST24, XR4i (and I seem to remember an XR4x4), Cavalier V6, Range Rovers, SD1's etc etc. Always wanted a scooby since.
Great video as always jonny. As the main organiser and runner of the South Manchester Subaru Owners Club, SMACS for short, in the past, its always great to see the old cars back in the limelight. The strong community amongst the Subaru Owners back then was so good. Happy days indeed. Although my bank balance filling up would disagree 😐

In ‘98 I borrowed a standard WRX for a week from a guy at work (company car) while he went on holiday. I took it to Wales. It was just awesome. Back then it was like nothing else and even now I think it would be more ‘real world’ fun than all these 400hp Audi/BWW/Mercedes Luxo rockets. Too detached an experience and too frustrating to drive on todays busy roads.

It's really nice to see it all fitted and looking sharp in such a beautiful car. Proud moment for me!
I had a new STi Type R back in 1998. It was the correct blue and I absolutely loved it (despite blowing a hole through a piston). Well, I grew up and have had mainly big GT cars ever since, but then the GR Yaris came on the scene and I just got the road going rally fever all over again and immediately bought one. This is unbelievably tempting.....
After your great video, i wish to buy a SUBARU 22 B from this garage . The "restomod" is wonderful. All the technical improvements are under control. thank you for sharing .

I did wonder why you were up around Chesterfield not so long back on Twitter. I’ve spent the odd afternoon down at Scooby clinic as my dad had two WRX wagons and we’re local. I’ll always have a soft spot for Imprezas. They felt like the fastest thing in the world as a kid.
Great video about an iconic car Jonny. I met you at Manchester Central a couple of years when I brought my Celica GT-Four. I also have an Impreza RB5 which I was thinking of selling this year but after watching this I'll probably hold on to it now. They were made for roads like those around Derbyshire. Well done!
Makes me want one again! Had a few but on reflection the classic was the best even with “only” 200 odd bhp. It was just beautifully judged balance of power/weight/feel/ride quality. Best car for Uk roads.

Thanks for the quality content Mate - enjoying your style! I love a 22B - as an Australian living in the UK, Ive never actually seen one in the flesh, we did get one back in OZ, but it was delivered to Subaru & from memory wasnt road legal as didnt have the correct side intrusion protection. Hard to believe they are fetching so much now days, but Im not sure I would drop 100k on one personally, even if it does look the part!
First thought "oh I know that garage". Second thought "and then he's going to visit some of the country's most dangerous roads in a Subaru". Nice one ;)
I have a 1999 jdm sti v5 sedan and would like to convert it into 22B. But waw, I have to sell my house to do this. But thumbs up for scoobyclinic for these conversions.
Nice video Jonny. I've 2 memories of scoobies. Sadly neither are 22B related. 1st was my 1st boss used to have an R reg one, it had done over 200k miles easy, but he took me out in it to collect a van. 1st round about, we took it sideways! 2nd, was my 30th present, half a day at a rally experience, although the time was short driving one, it gave me a taste of what a scooby could do off road.
One of the all time greats. Lovely work Johnny. If you want to learn about what the Subaru Impreza means to people just watch this video. Funny sidenote, did you spray the rear window wiper to mark what footage to select when editing?
You ought to speak to Marty & MOOG about the pick up they made in conjunction with Hot Rod magazine..... If they'd had more time, the pickup would have been almost factory looking and it didn't look to bad at all.
I remember years and years ago as a kid I would walk past a black GC shape Scooby that had the 22B wings and a bodykit. The guy had a super loud exhaust on it and you would hear the BOV before seeing the car, I joked with my friend at the time that we would end up with a Scooby, and I with an Evo 8/9. Now they're basically unobtainable for the normal person
This is making me miss my RB320. Special edition imprezas are so much fun. And you're absolutely right - so much grip! I only ever got it to slide on gravel!!
In 2016 I sold my immaculately restored & unmodified 98' STI Type R (JDM spec) to make room for the new Ford Focus RS I ordered. At the time there was a 22B for sale across the ditch in Australia for $120k. I was tempted but had already ordered the Ford...still kicking myself!!
Due to Gran Turismo on the PS2 I bought Catalunya 141 in 1997 - at the time it seemed ballistic, except for 15" wheels and tiny two pot front brakes.... was only £6K short of a used 22B back then ! Chopped it in for a new Prodrive Type UK in early 2002 again in black, better brakes Type UK suspension and a stiffer more planted shell were all great - the six speed box was less wonderful but proved to be bulletproof, so slightly heavier than a Type R but better brakes. Ended up at over 400 bhp with no engine internal work. She'll be back later this year - I can't wait !! Used ScoobyClinic way back in the late 90's, till I found a local who knew what he was doing !!

You can choose whatever colour you wish, that's the beauty of a self spec, ground up build
Funnily enough there's a few shades of Scooby blue, which Jonny didn't realise. But then he's colour blind...
@@TheLateBrakeShow il be avoiding him at a set of traffic lights then
I noticed the Finish is loads better than factory. Hats off to the painter 👩🎨
@@Smoovindecat that must be either illegal or racist, or worse: both, to spray a Finnish on any car and especially on a Subaru… ;-)
Stupid auto correct, I usually type at least 1,5 times more characters thanks to that _improvement_ , excluding the delete RSI thumb….
I had a 99, loved it. Working and living out in the outback in Oz at the time it was so much fun.
So you got to drive it, in it’s natural habitat 😂
Funny, I was thinking "I wonder what the estate would be like as a 22B-replica - I would love to see that.." - and there it was! Do get back to that one when it is finished, that would be awesome!
Been thinking the same thoughts ABW does the body kits/arches for 2 and 4 door kits!
There is one being built on the scooby forum
Well done!
Never had one but a workmate had the WRX estate and it sounded amazing when he floored it… would love to drive one cheers Johnny !!
The 22b will always be my favourite Road Rally car. Closely followed by the Makkinen Evo 6.. I loved the both when they came out and still do..
Makes me want one again! Had a few but on reflection the classic was the best even with “only” 200 odd bhp. It was just beautifully judged balance of power/weight/feel/ride quality. Best car for Uk roads.
Without doubt one of the best car journalists out there!
Many thanks 🤘🏽
Just had a look on autotrader and the price of Imprezas have shot up! Still have fond memories of my Impreza
Love my 2004 WRX all Subarus give a little wave to each other. Something special about the car.
Great video and bought back some great memories. I had 4 Sti Imprezas back in the day and still miss them now. And the noise.
The Hero of an Legendary Machine The Subaru impreza WRX STI 22B that is now 25yrs old but 25 yes ago it was out Winning WRC Championships and they are Basically The Old Skool Rallying Machine The Year I was born in 1998 was When These amazing Hero machines was born and 25yrs Later they've crept up in value over the years as times gone on absolutely love these cars I remember my buddy used to own one absolutely incredible cars what an Absolute Legendary piece of machinery these Subaru impreza WRX STI 22B and in time to come these will continue to rise in value 👏
Absolutely Amazing video this was mate very interesting to watch also wicked to learn the history behind the Subaru 22B
Hard to believe they are fetching so much now days, but Im not sure I would drop 100k on one personally, even if it does look the part!
there is one for sale here now for 800K Aud
First thought "oh I know that garage". Second thought "and then he's going to visit some of the country's most dangerous roads in a Subaru". Nice one ;)
I have a 1999 jdm sti v5 sedan and would like to convert it into 22B. But waw, I have to sell my house to do this. But thumbs up for scoobyclinic for these conversions.
Simply simply Lovely, amazing car amazing work. You did it again Jonny. 😎
UK have so many cool creative shops and garages. Very cool video!
One of the all time greats. Lovely work Johnny. If you want to learn about what the Subaru Impreza means to people just watch this video. Funny sidenote, did you spray the rear window wiper to mark what footage to select when editing?
😉
A great company and very genuine people. Get the kettle on Kev for my next visit 👌
I noticed the nod to the original wrc cars in the reg plate of the car you were driving too Johnny 👌
Had a Classic Type RA. White, roof vent. Felt like a GrpA rally driver when going to work. Loved it. Sold it for peanuts!
The distinctive sound of a scooby is fantastic.
I used to have a Version 3 STI RA WRX and very much regret selling it. Such an amazing car and have a goal to buy one again
You ought to speak to Marty & MOOG about the pick up they made in conjunction with Hot Rod magazine.....
If they'd had more time, the pickup would have been almost factory looking and it didn't look to bad at all.
Great video, full of nostalgia. I'm now looking at eBay for my 4th Scooby!!
Brilliant video again. I've just bought my first Scooby. Will be visiting these boys for some mods.
Nice one Jonny. So my EJ30 engine can be a 1000hp monster! Time to sell the house, buy a tent and call The Scooby Clinic.
EZ30 6 cylinder, mighty car mods has just built one and filmed it in New Zealand
Excellent video good watch👍 been to scoobyclinic a few times they really know what they are talking about, and as for the 22b 😮💨 one day!
Used ScoobyClinic way back in the late 90's, till I found a local who knew what he was doing !!
never thought i would see you driving around my local area in a 22R.
Believe it!
I’ve had two Subarus in my life and only one WRX and after that, I need to tell you I love me a Subaru!!!!!
Great video, looks like a brilliant place. But am I the only one who smirked when he said 'stroker kit'?
