On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 9-9-23.
We're looking at a 1964 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible in Red Paint. The car comes with the 455 CI V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is John Valene. John’s had this car since 2015. He shares his Friend received the car as a present from his Son as John’s Friend had a car like this many years ago. When his Friend drove the car there always seemed to be problems with the car. John suggested if he ever wanted to sell the car, he’d be interested in buying it. So his Friend sold him the car. I find it easy to enjoy this big powerful classy Pontiac that has a super smooth ride, and on a nice day like today, with the top down, this cars ride sure is relaxing. Turns out Johns wife loves this car too.
    ENJOY!

The 421ci with a six-pack making 370hp was the top engine option. There were several lower-spec 389 and 421 versions available.

I am wondering why the owner put a 455ci in that car? That makes it not really "correct", but whatever...the 421 block was a powerful original engine.

The color! The style! The sound and fury! A convertible! Lou just covers all the bases and steals home. What a beautiful car you have for us today. Nothing like 1960's style where it is a subtle overall design with wonderful accents and details. And that color is stunning with awesome white inserts on the interior. You've outdone yourself with this car, Lou! Keep up the great work!

This elegant 1964 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible looked sensational in the sunlight in that intense red! I liked the wavy shape that runs down the middle of the hood, next to the elegant Pontiac shield, to descend and form a striking pointed partition that separates the sunken chrome front grilles and double stacked headlights (without forgetting all the other chrome decorations; such as the striking strip that runs along the entire lower part of the body). Of course, the car is quite big and long; In fact, when you took the rear shot, with that huge trunk, big chrome grille and boomerang-style vertical guides, it seemed like I was looking at a boat, but with wheels! A beautiful interior, with those large, comfortable seats in red and white, and the elegant instrument panel adorned in very classic chrome and wood! Furthermore, the collection of well-preserved brochures and manuals is meticulous. Finally, the final route was magnificent, demonstrating its soft and docile behavior. Therefore, it is not surprising that even its owners relax cruising the roads in this impressive boat on wheels! Excellent model, and video, Lou!

Not a big deal but I lived in the day. My dad used to purchase cars and paint them in his garage at our house and he had painted one of these in his garage a red Bonneville course. I would always take them out and drive them gorgeous car did not have the Eight lug wheels on it had the wheel covers and you’re right about the eight lug rims being first offered in 62 and the motor were 389 not 383 just like in the GTO. They were nice cruisers.

First convertible I ever rode in was a 63 Catalina. A couple of my neigbors had 64 Bonnevilles. They were the most comfortable cars I had ridden in fo most of the 60s and 70s. Of all of the General Motors cars I have driven, the Pontiacs were the best handling and ride. That is a lot to say coming from me since I am mostly a Ford guy! It is too bad that Pontiac is one of the brands that were canceled.

Hi Lou! That owner really bagged himself a really nice Pontiac! I always have a thing for 1964 cars; I was born in '64 and every time I see one, I fall in love with them.
That Pontiac is lovely! I read in the description that the car is fitted with a 455 (the biggest engine in '64 was a 421, BTW). That engine must have come from a '70 model. Not a bad thing, though; sometimes it's great to have a later model engine, and to have re-upholstered seats, as this car has. Those seats look even better than what the car came with when it left the assembly line 60 years ago, that is for sure! And that car looks like it's really moving, with that 455 under the hood! You don't see many cars like this anymore. I occasionally see a '64 four-door hardtop in my area. The big '64 Pontiacs may have been overshadowed by the GTO, but they were (and still are!) wonderful cars in their own right. There are plenty of people out there who still love their Catalinas, Grand Prixs, Star Chiefs, and, of course, Bonnevilles! Pontiac manufactured 22,016 Bonneville convertibles in 1964. Surprisingly, it was more popular than the Catalina ragtop (18,693 of those were made)!
Thanks once again, Lou, for yet another fantastic video! As always, I'll be ready for more!

The indian head was chief Pontiac. I had a '64 Pontiac Bonneville convertible
back in '72 when I was 17. It was a fine ride. It was a gas-guzzler, but at
.35 per gallon of Getty premium, it wasn't that painful. It had a 25 gallon
tank, and at today's prices, it would cost close to a C-Note to fill it.

Usually it would have been a 389, not a 383. 421 would have been the next size up offered then.

Really good video Mr. Lou, two questions I noticed that there were two switches for the convertible top? So one which would lower it and the other switch would put the top back up? And even so the car had air-conditioning, I couldn’t see on the control where you would turn on the air-conditioning ? This car has great color too

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Hi Joseph-Frank, Hmmm, I'm not sure about the two top switches. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share the top switches. I'm guessing the A/C would be at the heater controls. Lou
