It's Animal Crossing. There ain't no storyline. Just more characters and events to partake in as well as stuff to expand your town and quality of life.
EDIT: Actually, the only Animal Crossing game that had some sort of storyline was City Folk. You had to jump from special character to special character just to get it and in a sequence of 15 days.
If you want a storyline, you should play a different game. Animal Crossing never really had a storyline

+ Better dialogue with more personality (I don't need gamecube level of brutality but at least some gossip or some interesting dialogue that fits with the villager personality that isn't just 'pleasant')
+ BREWSTER with to-go coffee
+ Mini-games for online play
+ Home visits
+ QoL update for crafting / shopping
Now that we can sit, I wish we could place rugs outdoors so I could use them for picnics instead of making one.

Nintendo used all the good stuff for this update lol. The January update is so small. they should have saved the House storage thing and new reactions for the Festivale update. December already was a lot with both Christmas AND thanksgiving.

Why did you guys make it so difficult to get christmas recipes and decorate your island!!! I spend an entire weekend just trying to pop balloons and I got one recipe. So disappointed that my town won't be ready in time for Christmas
same :( i popped like 10 balloons, talked to villagers, found bottles on the beach, and none of them were christmas diys. the only one i have is the one isabelle gave us.
Yeah I'm not sure why they can't make it like Halloween, where villagers gave you recipes so most people, playing regularly, could get them all by the actual holiday. It's 2 days before Christmas and I farmed balloons for HOURS today and now have 3 Christmas decorations.
The bad thing about this update is the fact that we can't fast travel to the holidays anymore--

I again am going for cottagecore on my island, however I have areas (near the plaza and villager neighborhood) that I leave open for holiday decorations so...I can safely decorate those areas without ruining the cottagecore vibes~

All fun and games until events get time locked. Just because we can't have a gathering for the holidays doesn't mean we want to spend it playing a video game. So I think most people will either hate the events or TT backwards to actually play them. Really defeats the purpose of playing your game how you want. Might as well put all the updates out for each year then just do the quality of life ones everyone has been begging for.

They're locking all future events to prevent spoilers i think from now on, after they release you can time travel back to it, there's also alot of run up preparation for toy day which is just hectic tt straight to it, in the meanwhile gather fish, beehives native fruit and some pumpkins for harvest festival get a notepad for toy day start of December

Tbh this gives me hope that we’ll eventually get Brewster, gyroids, etc. this actually shows that Nintendo’s listening. Still prob gonna be a long while tho which is still cool
I like that they’re slowly rolling out these fun updates. Just when I feel burnt out and a little bored, they add something to bring me back!
Those are already in the code expect them to happen :) they were in the code just like diving, swimming, the dream suite and farming
Oh, I have a feeling we will. I've talked with some of my villagers recently and some of them talk about how they like their coffee prepared. Some of them also brought up Gyroids. And I did a bit of research and I found out that's new dialogue that wasn't in earlier versions of the game.
For those of us who had all the animal crossing games we all can see the transformation from the first every one to the 2020 one. And how much better it has gotten over the years. Keep up the good work Nintendo.
