There are a lot of really good wood turners on TH-cam but you are in a completely different wood turning universe. I've never seen anyone as good as you are..incredible speed, accuracy and detail all in one move.
It has been nice watching you perform amazing feats of dexterity, abilities, thought processes and accomplishment. It is like watching the world Series, but the other team just phoned it in, they lost. It is a big help to us newbies out here in video land. After watching several of your videos last night this morning was great. I brought out several of my 2x4 pines (studs) and began with a skew. Gotta tell you, there is nothing to worry about. After watching you turn I took a turn trying to emulate what you were doing. WOW what a difference. The catches are fewer in between, less dramatic, well I should say the skates . Thanks for what you are putting out here, great stuff, real great. I'm trying to absorb what you have been doing for a few years now. Can't wait for more. If you want to come over say Friday or Saturday we can kick it around and through Osmosis I may be able to absorb something.Ha! You are quite welcome to come over any time.. Thanks.

Amazing as always Steve. I may have to pinch this idea as I do have a pocket watch somewhere. Certainly will not be so elegant as this one and will take me 10 times longer to make. Also I bought an old style compass, still not sure how to display that as it would be better flat but then you can;t see it properly. Well done and thanks for sharing a real joy to watch.
I notice you are not hollow grinding your skew, what is you thinking one this? I am spending a lot of time with a diamond hand stone between grinder sharpening; and with out a hollow grind on the chisel I just make it dull with my diamond hand stone. just wondering on your thoughts

I could probably get as close a shave from that skew chisel as from pretty much any safety razor wet shave. That is an amazingly sharp tool! O_o If I could pick only one of your skills, it'd be your tool sharpening skill :D
Would a regular scraper (not negative rake) work for this as well? Also, it looked like you were using a spindle gouge when you shaped the bottom even though it is faceplate work. Did I see that right? I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks for posting them.
Hi Yes I used a spindle gouge for this I find it gets into the tight curves better. A regular scraper will work but not as well.. Thank you for your comments.
Hey! I love your videos and they have inspired me to start woodturning. I'm very young and have purchased a table top lathe to start. I know that your videos aren't tutorials so it would mean a lot if you could make a intro to woodworking video to help out. Thanks!!! Keep making these real time vids they help a lot.

For spindle work, pine is easy on the tools, cheap and shows if you’re turning correctly. All the close grain woods like fruit and beech are good. Poplar is also very good for spindle work.

Thank you, my Skew is approx 30 degree accumulated angle and 15 or 75 degree skew however you read it.

My Skew is hollow ground, It is ground on an 8” ruby wheel and I do not hone.

It snapped and it is one of those charity bracelets they fit perfectly.

I have watched several videos now and you are using a measure/gauge on the spindle work what/where did you get that please
It is a home made tool, I have several they are just made from scrap metal sheet.

what scraper is what you are using? Cuts very fast.
It’s a Thompson Tools standard scraper that I reground to a negative rake scraper.
Would a regular scraper (not negative rake) work for this as well? Also, it looked like you were using a spindle gouge when you shaped the bottom even though it is faceplate work. Did I see that right? I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks for posting them.
