Thanks H for this awesome video. Sonu Nigam is a Legend. He is capable of singing all genres of songs.
When he was young he won Indian Idol music competition. He has been singing in the the bollywood industry
for 3 decades. This guy literally has auto-tune in his voice. I went to his concert last year, he sang for 3 hours
on stage and not once did his voice glitch or go out of control. Sonu Nigam is a superstar. Unfortunately music
companies cant afford to sign him anymore so we dont hear much of his songs nowadays. Music companies
tend to go for cheaper singers nowadays. However Sonu Nigam earnings come from his concerts from which
rakes millions. He is the most wealthiest singer in India and had earned his status of a legend. Just a bit of history
for you. Thanks again for this reaction :)

@@HofTheStage Its more of a rift between music companies & all established artists. The morons running the music companies are looking for cheaper options and dont want them to sing for other labels. The new comers who are looking for opportunities has little to no choice (and we get that) but to comply by rules set by the music companies. And Guess what, Sonu Nigam is the flag barrier against these music companies while other artists have started adding voice to his concern.

Not only was his music mesmerizing, he was a crowd-charmer, also he sang each and every song from memory, he even sang (from memory) old songs requested by senior citizens. And he humbly knelt and bent his head when they came close to the stage to bless him. Much love. God bless !

This song is part of a Movie "Agneepath(2012). He is expressing an emotion of a brother who met his lost sister and family(kind of ultimate goal of his life). He feels like he has everything that he wanted in his life and now no more wishes are remaining. This is the max hapiness he can get out of life. So the emotion he is feeling is like "As I have achieved everything I wanted, should I continue to live further and enjoy this hapiness for some more time or should I just die with all this hapiness and become happy forever."

Yeah you were right, the song is actually meant to tell the emotions of the male protagonist of the movie (in which this song is featured)
So basically, the male lead, after facing many difficulties in life is now finally realising that he has to focus on finding the happiness and spend the life happily and peacefully with his family
I don't know if you find this emotional but the song is apt for the storyline
And yeah the song was originally his but the lyricist had died just a month before so he was paying his tribute to him and Indian singers tend to improvise songs so this was kind of improvised version
Oh I think this is so long but this man can sing in many different voices
I've seen him mimic more than 25 different singing voices
It's like he's been singing his whole life

First one is called "Chhalki Chhalki" from his album Classically Mild, that he sings a small part of initially, as a tribute to his friend Ajay who passed away(he was the lyricist of that). Then piano takes over and second song starts (Abhi Mujhme kahin) that's the long one.

Indian classical music is like a prayer. A true indian classical singer will always sound like he's praying coz it's a saadhna for them, it's spiritual.
& "Calming the notes" is part of the classical training. All dualities are part of the classical training. But all non-dualities are also part of classical training because the music is a saadhna, like a prayer practice for them.
Also, indians are great at putting together the instruments in the most melodious way, in a graceful way. It's the most melodious and tasteful and goes well with the whole piece. It's not overpowering. That just comes from being meditative about music as a culture and respectful as human beings towards it. There's depth to this music.
& Indian musicians do solos when playing with each other. It's part of the culture, 'giving it' to the percussionist or another player coz each of them has the same equal respect within the culture.

Sonu’s singing this as a tribute to his best friend (Ajay Jhingran) who’s also the lyricist of this song who, at the time of this video, died very recently, that’s the little speech he gives at the beginning. Which is why the meaning of the song also fits perfectly with that contemplative, philosophical theme of “should I live, is it worth the pain if there are little joys in life too, or should I just die?” As you’ve figured, this song means so much to Sonu as it’s his song in the sense that he sang it, and he is the original singer too, but his best friend wrote the song, and this particular performance has so much pain and emotion behind it that comes through so beautifully because his best friend died. I love this version so much because it’s so gorgeous in its simplicity, and the humility that’s also expressed in the tribute to his friend is so lovely. The original version of this song doesn’t have this level of emotion behind it. The pain here is turned into such exquisite art.

The actual tribute is of the song Chalki Chalki Chandini Main, one of the Song from Sonu's song from the album Classically Mild written by Ajay Jhingran, the song you hear before abhi mujhme kahin and abhi mujhme kahi is written by different lyricist, not sure but I think Amitabh Bhattacharya

The song is describing hardship faced by a young boy since childhood till he becomes a grown up man, when suddenly he meets his lost family and lost little sister. This song tries to describe his feelings when he encounters such great happiness in rough life, he keeps asking himself should I live this moment or die to freeze timeline and make this the best moment of life he has experienced till now. Song keeps on explaining the emotion of relief that this event brings to him comparing it with a person under extreme sunshine for entire life finds shadow suddenly under a big dense tree again making him question should he continue to enjoy the moment or die out of joy.

This song is originally from movie Agneepath.... that literally means Path of Fire. In the movie, this song describes the feelings of hero who finally meets his younger sister after many years as he left home at tender age to avenge his father's murderer. After leaving home and living whole life in hardship, he thinks of himself being dead inside, hopeless and shattered. However, as he meets his sister and embrace her, he felt he has a small hope and a joy alive inside him. Being unaware of the the feeling being loved or cared for many years, he finds it hard to accommodate this joyous moment in his heart and wouldn't mind even dying peacefully in the same moment

FYI, the song "Abhi Mujh Mei Kahin" has been originally sung by Sonu Nigam himself. The lyrics are by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The composers are "Ajay & Atul". However, he has dedicated this song to his friend, another lyricist "Atul Jhingran" who suffered a massive heart attack and passed away.
