I LOVE how Lucy Gray appears so much less "manic pixie dream girl" in the trailer because it confirms my theory that she was only described in such a way in the book because we were looking through Snow's lens and that's what Snow saw her as.
And tbh, I love both Snow and Gaul. Gaul is basically what Snow became later on, but he still maintained some parts of his former self. He is completely honest with Katniss and messes with her similar to Gaul, but Gaul sees evil in everything, Snow probably doesn't. Or maybe it changed when he got older and he stopped caring. I utterly hate Coin. For playing herself up to be the good guy in panem, killing prim and countless others. Twisting gale even more into her puppet.
I think lucy gray was just very kind and trusting and he was a literal sociopath and able to project his emotions so well that she trusted him until she started to actually understand him more
6:09 Well, since the book never has a Lucy POV, we can't know what her feelings are, but in case she's really in love, I think it's because: SPOILERS If you remember Lucy was very disappointed with her boyfriend before the games since he cheated on her with the mayor's daughter and that also indirectly caused them to rig the draw so that she was chosen as a tribute and so the mayor's daughter could have the boy to herself I think that this situation leaves Lucy Gray very emotionally vulnerable and in addition to that is the fact that the Capitol treats tributes in subhuman ways and the fact that in a matter of days she will have to fight for her survival against various other boys and girls which are stronger than her something that can only increase stress and physical and mental emotional damage and that's where Snow appears (remember that only we can read his mind) at first he goes to see her the same day the tributes arrive at the capitol, of course, at the time she didn't think much of it, but when she realized that the vast majority of mentors didn't care their tributes I' m sure she started to get curious as to why Snow seems to care what happens to her (he brings her food whenever he can and has human interactions with her, takes an interest in her past and even tells her about his own when the vast majority of mentors only approach their tributes when required) and that is why she asks him "in case I win, what will they give you? A higher grade?" In addition, this is increased because she realizes that bringing her food means a great effort for him because he confesses the difficulties that his family has experienced since the war, which I think gives added value to the gesture and then other things happen like he apparently not only does everything he can to help her, but at some point he deliberately cheats at games, which increases her chances of getting out alive and not only that, but also gives her a personal item that has a very great sentimental value for him and i think that's where she starts to believe that he really cares about her as a person and not just as his tribute because she's seen the brutality of the capitol with other people so if it was just about winning the games, he probably wouldn't go so far as to do something life-threatening if caught just to slightly increase her chances of success and then when the mayor's daughter finds out about the rebels and everything gets out of control and her ex and Snow take very different attitudes, her ex takes the attitude of "if I die, you die with me" while Snow urges her to return to the stage so she'll have an alibi for where she was when the murders occurred apparently staying behind assuming all the risk for her if he were discovered and finally everything I said is added to the fact that apparently she has only had 2 couples in her life and they are also the only examples of a man she has had in her life (her father died when she was very young and the old man who took she and her family didn't seem to be very close to them from what she said) so she could only compare them to each other and in that comparison Snow looks like the best man within 1000 miles of course, we as readers have the advantage of being able to read Snow's mind and we know that things really aren't that great, but she unfortunately doesn't know
PERIODT!!! If I were to truly, like really, put my self in Lucy Gray’s shoes (not knowing what the mans was thinking- but judging off of his actions and effort), I know I’d be smitten as a kitten for mister coriolanus
It makes a lot of sense she is clinging to the only person with the power to help her. When you are in a life and death situation you cling to any kindness you are given. It's like good cop bad cop. Human nature. And her dependence got snow to give her favors. We act like stolkholm syndrome takes a while but it can be a short time and it goes both ways. With the kidnapper being humanized.
Also, Lucy doesn’t see the world in black and white. Disregarding her naivety, she is able to see the grey, hence her name. But snow sees the world in a very linear way, like shaming his neighbour for doing what he had to do when he was starving. His out look on life suggest he feels that he is as pure as white snow.
i’m so excited to see things in a more reliable way than just snows pov. (especially the ending, what lucy was actually doing vs what snow thought she was doing)
What did Lucy Gray see in Snow? To begin with he was a potential way of surviving. None of the other tributes except Sejanus made any attempt to keep their tribute from dying before the games even began but she saw that she’d caught his attention, that he could give her a chance at survival if she played along and accepted his protection. I think she also saw an audience….Lucy Gray was, above all else, a performer. Someone who loves the spotlight and Snow was her biggest fan. I do think she also saw the POTENTIAL he had for both being and doing good and Lucy Gray is the opposite of Katniss in this where Katniss was wary, found it difficult to trust and was always looking for an ulterior motive Lucy Gray wanted to see and bring out the good in everyone.
I know alot of people say they don't like seeing Snow hot because then people will like him and you're not supposed to like him 😂 IDK I feel it makes sense for his character. He's always been a charmer and that's the only way really he was able to make it out of poverty to become the president. I mean if we like him just because he's hot but he's a horrible person that says more about how fucked some people's minds are. I mean there are people in love with murderers sooooo
@@itsdivyaghe was hot but tbf, he was hot when he was older too and I’m not even attracted to men. He still gives me creep vibes and I wouldn’t wanna be within 10 feet of him.
To be fair I don't think Lucy truly cared for Snow. I think he intrigued her but mostly I think she used him to get the help she needed both before and during the games. She didn't think she would ever see him again so no real reason not to do so. Then once he showed up in District 12 she began to see the kind of person he was becoming. Now I do think Snow had feelings for her but they were the kind of feelings that bordered on obsession. It wasn't love but rather possession that drove him. As he says multiple times in the novel he felt Lucy belonged to him, in his mind she was his and his only. Nothing about their relationship was healthy. Despite what the trailer shows there isn't a love story in this movie but there is a toxic relationship that evolves enough to reveal just how twisted Snow truly is.
She was certainly in love with him - or with who she thought he was. Or else she wouldn't have been so happy to see him in District 12, or continued a relationship with him, or wanted to run away with him, and the song she wrote for him confirms that.
@@FrakkinToasterLuvva See on my first read through the book I felt the same. Maybe it's because it is written from Snow's POV but on subsequent reads I have found myself doubting her intentions just as he does at times. We know she has all reason to use his feelings to her advantage in the Capitol but I am not entirely sure that isn't also the case even in 12. A guy she 'led on' (assuming she did) who saved her life shows up unexpectedly as a peacekeeper, what is she to do? She knows he will expect her to continue their relationship. Plus no matter how little he has his position allows him to have access to more than her. Even if its only small things such as ice, sweet treats, new strings, etc. Billy Taupe's statements, and even some of her own admissions, make it clear that she knows how to flirt and manipulate people to reach whatever means she needs. It's also of note that during this time she is still meeting up with Billy Taupe, who is her ex lover. Finally when she is in trouble and plans to run away it is Snow to say they can run away together. Which again would work to her advantage as she even admits without him she doesn't think she would have truly been able to make it. Now I don't think during any of this she is opposed to him, and perhaps even likes him, therefore why not entertain this guy who appears willing to give up everything for her. I just don't think her feelings for him were ever truly based on love.
@@Carolinagirl1028 It doesn't make sense and you are now, as your only evidence, Billy Taupe's ramblings and Snow's jealous nonsense and later attempts to justify himself in his mind. She wasn't "meeting with" Billy Taupe, he was stalking her and threatening her and she was telling him to go away, which was making him get angry and badmouth her , as abusive exes do. Any objective analysis shows that, but Suzanne was obviously playing with the fact how easy it is for people to fall for misogynistic stereotypes.
The repetitive motifs of songbirds and snakes through the trailer are insane. Jewellery, frames it’s actually so cool. Also it also references the difference between good and evil and the line between it.
I think both snow and Lucy were complex - torn by survival and genuine emotions toward each other. If it hadn't been for their circumstances, they could have ended up together. What I think is that Snow is easily paranoid and shifty, as we see with Sejanus during his time as a peacekeeper. Lucy loves him, but stops trusting him the moment she realizes he's killed sejanus and would probably abandon her once disposing of the murder evidence. She can't trust him anymore, and therefore leaves. She feels like the girl in the ballad, strange and mysterious. That's why it's her song. Snow immediately shifts to paranoia when he realizes that the only tie to the murders is her, so she needs to disappear. His emotions about her swap from intrigue and dislike in the first chapters alone.
@@itsdivyag The ending is left ambiguous. Lucy Gray Baird is named after a poem by William Wordsworth in which a girl disappears without a trace and is assumed dead. Think it’s kinda cool that we can just speculate what happened to her after, but I think it was the intention of the writer, that if anymore books came after this, she would never appear again.
@@itsdivyag For all we know, he may have killed her. I think the most realistic options are that he killed her there, or wounded her and she died a few hours later, or died later in woods. But it's deliberately left ambiguous, which mirrors the poem "Lucy Gray", where the little girl is ruined by snow and vanishes and is probably dead but they don't know for sure.
I feel like a major part of the book focuses on a battle between the love of power and the power of love. Selfishness versus selflessness. Ugh. Lucy Gray deserved better.
I saw the Snow, Lucy Gray relationship, if continued turning into one of narcissistic control. He claims in the books, several times, she is his, like he'd like to lock her away for himself only away from the rest of the world like an actual songbird in a cage. He looked at Lucy Gray's mentorship as a way to keep his position in society by winning a scholarship for university. He's constantly trying to keep up appearances, making moves that will advance his position in this world. But Lucy Gray as we see, is not Katniss. She has the background of what sounded like a gypsy travelling music group that got stuck in District 12. She knows how to use her beauty and song, and charms as well to try to get what she wants or needs to survive. They seem to be falling for each other, at times, but then things happen that make each of them paranoid about staying alive, and surviving in this world. By the end, he is thinking in his head, that he can't survive on the run, digging for worms in the dirt, fishing, eating Katniss potatoes, etc. It's just not the kind of life he wants to live, and once he sees the bag of guns in the cabin, he sees his way out to get rid of the murder weapons in the lake and be free to go back to the Capitol, and he starts questioning Lucy Gray's motives, once she figures out that he killed his own friend, Sejanus, what's to stop him from killing her. So, she takes off. It was a depiction of a toxic relationship, like someone else said. He was close to falling in love, but afterwards he even states in the book he will marry someone, but not someone he loves. He will marry to climb the power ladder. He is about control and power. On another note, if they do another story, I would have liked more of how Dr. Gaul become the mad scientist lead in the mutations/mutt lab? I think she said she was an obstetrician, previously, I think in the book, but she was tired of being asked by parents to do things that she just couldn't do, but that was about it.
okay fr when the book came out I feel like everyone was like "snow was made out as super sympathetic!!! it tried to justify his actions!!!" and I was just like ???? where? did we read the same book? anyway the trailer looks fire I can't wait to see the movie
What Lucy sees in Snow: he's kind, he waits for her from the very start on the train depot with a rose, he helps her, he feeds her, he cares about her past. He sees her as an equal, and let's not forget, she's indicating that he's very attractive by telling him girls are probably lining around the block to date him, so- she probably finds him physically attractive.
Personally I wasn't blown away by the book (kinda underwhelmed and I thought the ending was rushed) but I'm still super stoked for the movie bc I wanna see how they translate the obsessiveness of Snow and Lucy Grey's sweetness and love of freedom and love itself to the screen
i truly believe this movie should have been split into 2 with the first movie ending right as snow gets sent to be a peacekeeper. this is gonna be way to rushed, and theyll probably cuto ut the entire zoo sequence. but the failure of mockinjay probably scared them away from it
did mockingjay flop i thought it did alright? its so crazy how they showed snow being a peacekeeper and all of that like the whole plot of the book is laid out but I'm thinking if that's cause we know what the plot is so we can see it... ygm
I agree that things will be cut from the movie, but I’ve read the book a few times and there’s definitely chunks that can be removed for the movie. In addition, Francis Lawrence has said this will be the longest Hunger Games movie so I am hopeful that the story will be told in a way that aligns nicely with the book. I am hoping they don’t cut certain aspects of the book to fit the age rating, as some of the events in the book are pretty dark and gruesome.
The peacekeepers would probably kill you if you smashed the window and escaped. They did that with the District 1 tributes after the bombings of the 10th Games.
yall i remember most of the shit about this book. i only read it once. when it came out. this, like, NEVER happens. i need to see stuff multiple times to remember literally anything. i'm so hyped, you have no idea.
My take is that she was never interested in him but had to keep him happy to stay alive, and then he rocked up in her hometown and she was like fuck now he's here AND HE HAS A GUN so guess this is my life now 🙃
That's absolutely not what happened. It's not even ambiguous once you get to the 3rd part. Tons of people had guns and Lucy Gray was not afraid of them. She wasn't afraid of her crazy ex Billy Taupe when he was threatening to kill her, nor did she ask Snow for protection. She was overjoyed to see him in District 12 and she was the one who initiated their relationship. She loved freedom. She wanted to run away with him - not from him, until she realized his true nature. The song she wrote and sang for him also showed how in love she was and that she thought he was a great guy.
nice to know that you freaked out as much about this trailer as i did ( i have somany thoughts about this series oh god not jus tthe trailer just IODJSDISIDIDFJIDIJOIDJIDSIJDSO) yknow? also nice to know u immedietly went to analysis like me
Can you do more turning classics into Ya and vice versa. Maybe you could do a kind of cover-swap design thing. Also can you do Shakespeare into modern day book covers. I would love to see Macbeth as lit fic.
There a theory that Lucy Gray might be the Granmother but people think it Maude Ivory is Katriss's Grandmother. Ms Gray would never be so stupid returned back to area 12. People said most likely she lived in area 13 and then died.
i’m so confused about the whole chapter and not just her “death”. Like did she actually figure out Sejanus’s death and fled or was it just Snows paranoia. Especially since in the previous chapters he was constantly anxious and thought everyone was into him when they had no idea. Did she actually figure it out, laid a trap and the katniss was just an excuse to get away or was snow just so paranoid and searched for an excuse to kill her to get rid of her and she was surprised when he started shooting at her?
I do honestly think the theory that she is Katniss' grandma is valid because in the books Katniss mentions that she learned Hanging Tree from her father, who is mentioned several times to have had an amazing voice, and it is emphasized how Katniss also has a great voice. Obviously that could be a coincidence but I think it would be insane if Lucy was pregnant and married someone else or changed her name and had her son in district 12. Maybe she died in childbirth and he was raised by someone else hence the different last name, it at least would be a pretty crazy twist and would make Snow and Katniss' relationship so much crazier
Although he is messed up, he was really nice in the beginning, so I think that's why Lucy Gray was in love with him. Me and my brother have this way of distinguishing his personalities. When he was nice, his name was Coryo. When he (SPOILERS) pressed record on the jabberjay, he was lanus. When he found the guns in the lakehouse, he was anus. When he grows up to be president, he's old man evil :) Obviously, he is evil, but think about it. The only reason he said "everything is about winning" is because he was in love with her, and had promised to her that she would win. I guess I could be wrong, this might be before, but still. And, if he hadn't gotten the opportunity to be an officer or whatever, then he wouldn't have betrayed Lucy Gray. And if he hadn't seen the guns.
Snow was and has-been a DILF. but i honestly havent read songbirds and snakes. can anybody let me know if it's worth reading before the film? Ive read them all prior to the film and seeing them come to life near what I envisioned each film has been a delight.

Well, since the book never has a Lucy POV, we can't know what her feelings are, but in case she's really in love, I think it's because:
SPOILERS
If you remember Lucy was very disappointed with her boyfriend before the games since he cheated on her with the mayor's daughter and that also indirectly caused them to rig the draw so that she was chosen as a tribute and so the mayor's daughter could have the boy to herself
I think that this situation leaves Lucy Gray very emotionally vulnerable and in addition to that is the fact that the Capitol treats tributes in subhuman ways and the fact that in a matter of days she will have to fight for her survival against various other boys and girls which are stronger than her something that can only increase stress and physical and mental emotional damage
and that's where Snow appears (remember that only we can read his mind)
at first he goes to see her the same day the tributes arrive at the capitol, of course, at the time she didn't think much of it, but when she realized that the vast majority of mentors didn't care their tributes I' m sure she started to get curious as to why Snow seems to care what happens to her (he brings her food whenever he can and has human interactions with her, takes an interest in her past and even tells her about his own when the vast majority of mentors only approach their tributes when required) and that is why she asks him "in case I win, what will they give you? A higher grade?"
In addition, this is increased because she realizes that bringing her food means a great effort for him because he confesses the difficulties that his family has experienced since the war, which I think gives added value to the gesture
and then other things happen like he apparently not only does everything he can to help her, but at some point he deliberately cheats at games, which increases her chances of getting out alive and not only that, but also gives her a personal item that has a very great sentimental value for him
and i think that's where she starts to believe that he really cares about her as a person and not just as his tribute because she's seen the brutality of the capitol with other people so if it was just about winning the games, he probably wouldn't go so far as to do something life-threatening if caught just to slightly increase her chances of success
and then when the mayor's daughter finds out about the rebels and everything gets out of control and her ex and Snow take very different attitudes, her ex takes the attitude of "if I die, you die with me" while Snow urges her to return to the stage so she'll have an alibi for where she was when the murders occurred apparently staying behind assuming all the risk for her if he were discovered
and finally everything I said is added to the fact that apparently she has only had 2 couples in her life and they are also the only examples of a man she has had in her life (her father died when she was very young and the old man who took she and her family didn't seem to be very close to them from what she said) so she could only compare them to each other and in that comparison Snow looks like the best man within 1000 miles
of course, we as readers have the advantage of being able to read Snow's mind and we know that things really aren't that great, but she unfortunately doesn't know

apparently it was improv by Rachel !
@@itsdivyag even crazier 😭❤️
im READY for the covey's and lucy's songs. im on my knees for them to release even a voice snippet
so what i’m hearing is i need to reread the hunger games and the prequel 🤨 hmmmm
annual reread is necessary
hope is in fact stronger than fear lol I trust the director since he made the previous movies so I have no doubt it'll be amazing!
suzanne francis and nina supremacy
I don't know anything about the books, but great insight!
Why is Snow so hot
Snow got that 15 step skin routine 🥵
Yea i can see very clearly the crisp evilness, still hot tho :D
Snow drop the skincare rout pls
If evil why hot?
not the hunger games being compared to love island 😭
ur right nothing compares to the genius of love island actually...
okay fr when the book came out I feel like everyone was like "snow was made out as super sympathetic!!! it tried to justify his actions!!!" and I was just like ???? where? did we read the same book? anyway the trailer looks fire I can't wait to see the movie
how am i only just now finding ur channel bro my quality of life is about to go up a bit i can tell
please I hope u enjoy 😙✌️
What Lucy sees in Snow: he's kind, he waits for her from the very start on the train depot with a rose, he helps her, he feeds her, he cares about her past. He sees her as an equal, and let's not forget, she's indicating that he's very attractive by telling him girls are probably lining around the block to date him, so- she probably finds him physically attractive.
Omg I loved the trailer sm and i cannot wait to read the book before the movie comes out!! So excited!
read it and tell me what u think!!
@@itsdivyag yesss I will!!

Personally I wasn't blown away by the book (kinda underwhelmed and I thought the ending was rushed) but I'm still super stoked for the movie bc I wanna see how they translate the obsessiveness of Snow and Lucy Grey's sweetness and love of freedom and love itself to the screen
4:57 me toooo! Sneak out, change my name and flee the country somehow! Hahah
just finished listening to the audiobook and I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS DAMN MOVIE
First video with you…. You’re an absolute delight. Definitely subscribed 💜
"sejanus, coriolanus, highbottom. why are there so many butts? because they're all assholes."
just subbed
WHY IS HE MODELLING FOR ASOS 💀 pleaseeeee ahahah
lowkey wanna buy a plain white tee now
i truly believe this movie should have been split into 2 with the first movie ending right as snow gets sent to be a peacekeeper. this is gonna be way to rushed, and theyll probably cuto ut the entire zoo sequence. but the failure of mockinjay probably scared them away from it
did mockingjay flop i thought it did alright? its so crazy how they showed snow being a peacekeeper and all of that like the whole plot of the book is laid out but I'm thinking if that's cause we know what the plot is so we can see it...
No, I think this story must be one movie. If it was a miniseries, yeah, you could have 2 or 3 episodes, but watching these a year apart? Hell no
I never even paid that much attention to the colors but I think you're right!
This is my first time finding your channel & you're so funny omg ❤
I’m so glad I found your channel I love your energy! New sub :)

That intro deserved an IMMEDIATE sub
Thank u sm 🥹🥹🙏
Snow in the ballad of songbird’s and snakes is literally the definition of pretty privilege
The intro is perfect, nice editing
thanks sarah :)
The peacekeepers would probably kill you if you smashed the window and escaped. They did that with the District 1 tributes after the bombings of the 10th Games.
Idk if you notice but the thing in the middle of the arena in the trailer look like the arena in the 75th hunger game
Cornucopia?

“Biddies” got me guffawing LMAOOOO loved this video!
This is the origin of how Snow becomes a menace!
Man they had to cast somebody GOOD LOOKING as President snow 😩😩😩.
yall i remember most of the shit about this book. i only read it once. when it came out. this, like, NEVER happens. i need to see stuff multiple times to remember literally anything. i'm so hyped, you have no idea.
I’m still not over them filming in my city like the district 12 bits are in my fav park ahxhdbd
omg historical grounds
nice to know that you freaked out as much about this trailer as i did ( i have somany thoughts about this series oh god not jus tthe trailer just IODJSDISIDIDFJIDIJOIDJIDSIJDSO) yknow? also nice to know u immedietly went to analysis like me
ALSO FREAKING OUT ABOUT THE FACT THEY PUT THAT SCENE IN THE TRAILER LIKE WHAT
(im talking about the scne where "snows ameircan" shooting the forest - also made me laugh so much
lowkey trailer basically foreshadowed the whole book but idk if thats cause ive already read the book but its ok
snow looks so so much like evil stranger things blond pointy boy
I asked my mother about what she thought of the ending. She said she thought Snow was a decent human being, but eventually the dark side got to him...
2:18 OH NOW IT MAKES SENSE
Can you do more turning classics into Ya and vice versa. Maybe you could do a kind of cover-swap design thing. Also can you do Shakespeare into modern day book covers. I would love to see Macbeth as lit fic.
what an idea! thank you. i'll work on it :)
what we know now it makes one wonder there was other reasons why Donald Sutherland' snow went to District 12 beside threatening Katniss?🤔
The ceilen dion. Proceeds to play cher 😂
to be fair its celine pretending to be cher
NOT THE RED AND WHITE BLOOD CELLS PLSS
here for deep insights
@@itsdivyag I thank u for ur service
i mean snow is able to charm everyone around him so is it really far fetched that she would fall for him?
Immediate like after the intro
I love the support 💕😳
SPOILERS:
Hi, friends. Can we please talk about what we believe happened to Lucy Gray because I just finished the book and NEED COMMUNITY
There a theory that Lucy Gray might be the Granmother but people think it Maude Ivory is Katriss's Grandmother. Ms Gray would never be so stupid returned back to area 12. People said most likely she lived in area 13 and then died.
i feel like if she ran away she likely just died in the woods trying to find escape from him
i’m so confused about the whole chapter and not just her “death”.
No but genuinely how did i retain so little from a ballad of songbirds
me
reread time!
I have 4 more chapters I'm about to read right now.... I am watching this instead right now 😂
Viola Davis DID THAT as Dr. Goul
but why IS there so many butts tho??
to butt or not to butt
yes -- what did happen to good dystopia?
👀
Although he is messed up, he was really nice in the beginning, so I think that's why Lucy Gray was in love with him. Me and my brother have this way of distinguishing his personalities. When he was nice, his name was Coryo. When he (SPOILERS) pressed record on the jabberjay, he was lanus. When he found the guns in the lakehouse, he was anus. When he grows up to be president, he's old man evil :)
Obviously, he is evil, but think about it.
Litteraly just read the first hunger games book for the first time, read the whole book in one day, and could not put it down
It’s my faves

Snow was and has-been a DILF. but i honestly havent read songbirds and snakes. can anybody let me know if it's worth reading before the film? Ive read them all prior to the film and seeing them come to life near what I envisioned each film has been a delight.
The book is great. Fully recommended.

I can not get over how hot Snow is in this movie!!!
