Judy Holliday won an Oscar, Griffith nominated for a Raspberry. From Wikipedia: "Reviews to Born Yesterday were mostly negative, as it holds a 23% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Melanie Griffith was nominated for the 1993 Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress for her performance in the film, where she lost to Madonna for her work in Body of Evidence."
Am watching the original. Wondered if this remake held up. The comments tell the story. It's too bad. The original was like a good Natl Geo documentary...both fun to watch & intellectually stimulating.
Don and Melanie are great together in this. They were very much in love then. So sad they couldn't make it work. Their daughter Dakota Johnson (50 Shades of Grey) was 4 when this was released.
Julie at least was a charming blonde playing dumb with much better script and leading man; Melanie here is just dumb, she’s a very one note actress, even in her “best work” working girls, it gets old pretty fast
She isn't. As a 34-year-old woman she made the following comment: "I didn't know that 6 million Jews [were killed in the Holocaust]. That's a lot of people." And yet, filmmakers kept casting her as smart, working-class, industrious women with hidden depths in films like Working Girl, Shining Through, and Born Yesterday, instead of casting her as spoiled rich dumb blondes (in real life her mother is Tippi Hedren, a famous actor, and she was raised in privilege). It's an absurd fantasy designed to make bimbos feel better about themselves. Ironic, considering Hollywood is often accused of 'sexism'.
If you want to check out the classic with oscar-winning Judy Holliday check out the 1950 version of born yesterday
Judy & Brod cannot be replaced

Never liked Melanie as an actress, she just never seemed natural. Not surprised she was nominated a raspberry
The original one is the best
Love this movie classic
i never understood remakes of classic originals……they spent all that time and money not coming up with an original script or story?
This was a good remake.

I did enjoy this movie but I can not handle MG's voice. She doesn't act intelligent at all. Even in real life.
