    Good video. I’m glad you emphasized calibrating the tool. Because I have a bad habit of not reading instructions! 😬

    I purchased this same device and it works really well about 99% of the time. Follow the instructions on resetting, calibrating, and scanning. Sometimes it will indicate two adjacent breakers as correct so it takes a little patience when that happens. The end that plugs into the outlet is also handy in itself because it tells you if outlet is wired correctly. If you plan on re-labeling an entire breaker box, work with someone else. Saves time going back and forth. The accessory kit is about $15 and well worth the investment. As mentioned in the video, I have only used the light socket attachment but it's good to have the others just in case. The tool is built well and feels rugged but as with any device like this, dropping it is not advised. You may also want to invest in a little bag to store all the components when not in use. I spent a few bucks on a pencil holder bag at the office supply store. It just barely holds the components but also has 3 binder holes that makes it easy to hang up on a hook.

    how do you find the circuit for a sealed LED ceiling light? Or for a wire in the wall that you don't know where it goes to? I was going to buy one of these things only to find out its usefulness is rather limited. More and more lights now are sealed LEDs.

    • @HighRidgeHandyman

      The led light fixture should have a wall switch. If so you open the switch and the use the pig tail to clip on your side screws then plug the toner into that. If you unsure ALWAYS HIRE A PROFESSIONAL. As for a wire if there’s no power on it you won’t be able to use this unit. IT NEEDS POWER TO OPERATE.

    What would be recommended to identify circuit breaker for a fire alarm

    • @HighRidgeHandyman
      @HighRidgeHandyman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you looking to trace out hardwired smoke detectors? Or a fire alarm panel? If smoke detectors most of the time they are wired to different circuits thru out the location using lights or existing plugs. The only way is to turn off each breaker at a time to find out. If it’s the fire alarm panel you should be able to locate a small conduit entering your panel or it should have a dedicated AFCI circuit. I RECOMMEND YOU HIRE A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE IF YOUR NOT SURE. NEVER ATTEMPT TO WORK IN YOUR ELECTRICAL PANEL! Good luck

    Is it a good idea to turn off the breaker and calibrate/tone all the breakers a second time to be certain?
    Plus can the toner(plug device) not lighting up after switching the breaker off that you detected also a value check and balance?

    • @warronfrench8163
      @warronfrench8163 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can confirm this for others that might read this. Turning off the breaker __will__ help you determine with greater certainty that you found the correct breaker. Also the toner not lighting up while still plugged into the receptacle outlet while the correct breaker is turned off is also a good check.

    • @HighRidgeHandyman
      @HighRidgeHandyman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need voltage to find the tone. You do not have to turn off breakers to calibrate. When you do find the right breaker and you go back to your plug and find the light out you know that you turned off the right breaker. That’s how it works.

This may be a bit more high tech, I will go with the Circuit Detective from Harbor Freight. Not sure I will ever use this device again once everything is labeled, worth it not to go flipping breakers. Does not detect hot wires . Just tones out the circuit breaker and also has a GFCI tester.

    Okay so, you're telling me home inspectors to purchase a home are lazy jerks. Not cool. We needed this. The inspector did a half ass job and couldn't complete his inspection because nothing was labeled.

    • @HighRidgeHandyman
      @HighRidgeHandyman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not sticking up for home inspectors because trust me I’ve had my fair share of losers! But it isn’t his responsibility or hers to make sure things are labeled. That’s the responsibility of the previous homeowner and or electrician who did the work. This tool is excellent and highly recommend if you tracing out and labeling your panel. BTW I love Lisa Marie cool name! Elvis was one of my favorites. Good luck with your new home!
